From the OP. This worries me, what is team crushed expectations? Does that mean not an li? Sera is female only, crushed male het gamers expectations. Cole is not LI because, well it's Cole. I'm worried Solas isn't an LI and that gives female het gamers no companion LI options. Iron bull doesn't count due to either being a fling or a niche.

don't worry about that, crushed expectations had nothing to do with romances, Kirie already asked and she said er..no to whether crushed expectations referred to solas being a romance or not.

I have to say after re-reading all three mages' interviews again, I think I can safely say Solas is my favorite.

I was reading about the meaning of the Death card and this caught my attention:

 

"Those heads, bones, feet and hands represented in the card express the bonds that tie the Person to the physical, astral and ethereal body; they are the bonds with the forms of thought created by our minds, the illusory attachments that link man to people, things, ideas, roles and functions, even to his own ego. In order to progress, these bonds must be broken and the remains must putrefy to make room for what must be born and to nourish it. Therefore the sickle of the Death has the task to cut the bonds, to free us from the images that we filled with our energies, from the ghosts of the mind: personality, social role, identity."

 

Solas values free thought, doesn't want to be seen as just an elf, doesn't see things in black and white, wants others to be more open-minded, etc.  Maybe he's the Death Card to the Inquisitor because he's thinks the Inquisitor needs to leave behind the constraints of elf vs human, mage vs templar, demons vs spirits and all that.

The part about expressing the bonds that tie the Person to the physical, astral and ethereal body remind me of Solas's dreaming and expertise/journeys in the Fade. Bonds needing to be broken in order to progress reminds me of how he is open-minded.

I can do the Vulcan salute really easily, but this thing Solas is doing with his hands is a lot harder. The muscles to do it seem a lot weaker. Nice catch btw.

But here's a thought for you.  Solas sounds like the kind of unassuming, baggage free romance that fans have been begging for forever.  So Fast Forward to the Writers Pit (disclaimer -this is pure speculation):

 

Half of writers pit: we should make him a romance, he is exactly what the fans have been asking for.

Other half of writers pit:  But the fan tears...

Not quite. Maybe most, but I'm one of those vaguely annoying extroverted types. LOL

 

Although I have my introverted moments, so I think I really ride the line a lot with a lean towards extroverted more often than not. Might explain why those Myers-Briggs personality tests also come up ENFJ/INFJ for me depending on my mood that day (with ENFJ usually showing more often).

 

But I have a deep and big love of introverts, so... ties that bind in this thread, yay!
