I think Solas' mug is like Sera's bangs, or the hearts on Cassandra's armor- bits of characterization integrated into their appearance/aesthetic. I don't imagine Sera talks about her hair at all, but the way she hacks it off as needed offers insight into her personality. Solas' mug on Solas' backpack tells us that he's an expert wanderer, someone who has streamlined their life to the point where it can be folded up and arranged and carried on their back.
So, while we wait to get a lovely Solas picture from this new series of artwork awesomeness that they're doing, might I pick your brains for a moment?

I'd second the liquid liner - but don't get the super cheap stuff. Maybelline used to make a good one that was shaped like a marker and super easy to use. Definitely go waterproof though. It's a bit more of a hassle to clean off (as long as you're not going anywhere near your eyes, rubbing alcohol works. Just make sure to wash your skin off and moisturize after). Always make sure your face is super clean and dry (use oil-free sunscreen!) before applying. Never cosplayed, but I used to go really theatrical with my makeup when I was younger, and I would go to clubs and dance and be out for hours and after a lot of trial an error, managed to keep from looking like hot mess halfway through the night. 
Aww, what if the mug has some sort of story? I mean, when you think about it, why would the developers even bother?

Speaking of character design, if you guys haven't already, definitely check out the DA presentation that came out on Twitch today Alas, I've only gotten a third of the way through before my computer went all Blue Screen of Death on me. Twice. During roughly the same part of the video weirdly enough - I'm afraid to even post a link at this point... 
What I did see was super interesting though, and we get some neat new glimpses off the game! (So pretty...)
I'll have to try watching it tomorrow after I reformat my (almost brand new and upgraded) computer. (Second to last resort before sending the thing back... crossed fingers it works. I suppose it's better this happened now instead of after Inquisition came out. Were I computer-less after all this waiting after finally getting the game I'd likely have a minor meltdown

Delurking again: I was super surprised that the original options for straight females were Blackwall and Iron Bull. I don't like to think I'm shallow or anything, but they definitely aren't what I picture for having the 'look' of a LI. I mean, I romanced Garrus and adore him so personality is the make or break for me in the end. but I might have been a little bummed out at first. Happy for all the Blackwall fans though, and I'm excited to have slightly older options.
Blackwall and Iron Bull (to me) are not my type. Or, at least not IB. (because he is promiscuous and I'm not like that at all) I can't say anything about Blackwall because we don't know much about him, but look wise he may to be rough for me but personality and voice is more important.
Solas is a heaven sent LI because he is an introvert and looks like he is going to be fun to hang around and not too grim, I don't care about his Baldness, I romanced the hell out of Garrus and he is a Dino-bird.
This all could change though. When the game comes out and I romance everyone I'll probably look back at this post be like:

When I saw that he was potentially around 20 years older than me if he's in mid 40s my reaction was more "Oooh, DILF" I'm so vulgar sometimes than "eww, why they all so old." So no, his age hasn't factored into my decision except to make me want to romance him more. I don't really have a headcanon about my Inquisitor's age yet, especially since I doubt the game will let me play out an age difference. Le sigh.

Nah, that doesn't put me off at all! Age isn't a big deal to me, and the Inquisitor I plan on romancing him with is of the same opinion. I planned her as a sapiosexual (so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I learned she would get Solas as an LI), and I think she'll appreciate someone who is older and more mature/worldly in their views. As off-kilter as she is, my lady Lavellan doesn't want a partner who is just as wild as she is - she's looking for someone who can keep her grounded and have enthusiastic, meaningful debates with her through the night until the early hours of dawn. So I don't think his age would bother my Inquisitor one bit - in fact, it probably makes him more desirable to her. 
Now I want to doodle her admiring Solas as he talks to her about the Fade....
