I was going to go back to my homework but then I found out someone, a woman who was like a second mother to me, has died. I wish I had this game right now and I could distract myself from my sadness.

 

I wonder what Solas' views on the afterlife are. Forgive me, but I am not an expert at Dalish beliefs but I'm Pagan and I don't believe in a hell. It would be nice to think that, just as he doesn't see everything in two broad terms such as "good" and "bad" in life, that he feels the same for afterlife.

 

Note: I hope my beliefs don't upset anyone. The lady who passed was a Christian woman and she was very loving and understanding even knowing this. I also didn't want to go too offtopic so I was just trying to tie it back to Solas. I love all of you guys.

 

Awww sorry to hear that. Hopefully when the game comes out it will help lift your spirits. 

 

 

I think Solas will be very open minded about the afterlife, I don't think he would necessarily see death as a bad thing either. I'm really curious about his spiritual outlook. You're beliefs don't upset me, i'm a secular pagan.

I feel sorry for your loss. If you're a believer, pray. And if you're  atheist, you can simply light a candle and think about all the good moments you had together.

In the end, only time can help. Just don't isolate yourself and try so see or telephone your family and friends.

 

 

Don't know about Solas' opinion on death, but if I remember correctly, Dalish plant a tree over the grave, so that life can continue. I think it's a nice intention.

@RebbyWriter condolences for your loss.   just yesterday I had the memorial mass of my uncle. She was a nun, and she was always good and understanding of everyone. She tough to me how to see every religion (or non religion) with respect.

Is not the religions, but the ignorance who make offence of what people believe.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Rebby. For what it's worth, I wish I could get your hands on a physical copy of the game right now too. And you shouldn't worry about talking about your beliefs! I'm definitely not upset.

 

As for Solas, I wonder if he would just outright say that he didn't know. I don't see him as the type to attach himself to something without proof, but at the same time it's said that he cares as much about myth as he does truth so maybe he thinks all of the different afterlife beliefs hold water. But going by his personality so far, he'd probably think that whatever the afterlife, it's probably more complicated than 'evil people go here' and 'good people go here' because the concepts of good and evil are so black and white.

 

Those are my thoughts, at least. Take care of yourself today, okay?

I am curious about how Solas (and the other cultures of Thedas as well) views death and the afterlife. I hope that is a conversation we can have with him. If it is true that the Dalish plant trees over their dead I agree it's a beautiful sentiment. Personally, I could never see the appeal in the idea of going to the Maker's side as the Andsrastians do, but that might be because I'm not religious in real life.

 

I call myself an Atheist - though a few more 'mystical,' for lack of a better term, beliefs have made their way in over the course of my life. i like to think that when we live, we all leave a mark on the universe through our actions and interactions, and that stays behind even if we pass. So in a sense, a death is just a different kind of existence. I don't know if that's something that would bring comfort to anyone else, but it does to me. I've always believed that when it comes to religion people should believe what feels right to them, provided they respect and accept others and strive not to hurt anyone. Solas seems to me, with his pragmatism, that he might hold a similar view. What was it that Partick said - that he had a paradoxical devotion to both the truth and the myth? I really love that

My condolences, I am so sorry for your loss and I wish this game was out as well especially for people like you who need the distraction. I hope she is at good rest. Mourn if you can, so that you may be able to face a new day stronger than before and with the memories held closely in your heart.

 

 

The fact that people from this thread come here to share their feelings during their toughest times is really beautiful. Just wanted to say that. I've done it myself here and it feels comfortable and natural especially when everyone is so supporting. To everyone having a tough time -- good luck and do your best to stay strong. You can do it.

I believe Solas may not have any idea on the afterlife in Thedas. But I do think an interesting conversation to have with him would be if he has seen departed souls travelling through the fade, as per the chantry's claims.

Jeez, now I'm over here reading all these responses and crying more. Thank you so much for the love. This place is great. There are so many people here that are different in certain ways but we all come here for one guy and that helps us connect.

 

I actually think it would be just as cool of him to admit that he doesn't have the right answers. I have a respect for the people who admit that they could possibly be wrong or that they don't know everything. So many people stubbornly cling to an idea without being open minded to the possibilities of changing one's views. Patrick's interview made it sound like he knows that not all interpretations of the Fade are as they appear to that person so he may base his life not on what he sees but what may be there.

 

btw, when it comes to being open-minded, you guys fit in that category. How very Solassy (or is it Solas-like?) of you.
