It's strange because his eyebrows don't look the right color now. Maybe his hair color lightened over time? Not that it'd really matter, since he's bald!

Some more Solas/Elfquistor fanfic. Again, safe for work. Hope you guys enjoy, as I really enjoy doing it. He totally inspires my creativity and I'm using this as motivation to learn more about Dalish lore.

“Aneth ara,” Solas greeted, bowing his head lightly.

 

Verana scoffed. “You’re not even Dalish,” she said, before resuming her woodcarving that was so rudely interrupted.

 

He smirked and leaned casually against the tree beside him, arms crossed. “And how do you know that?” he asked, obviously challenging her.

 

Verana stopped abruptly, turning her head to look up at him, and pointed to the vallaslin on her face with her blade. “Or maybe you are and were just too weak of will to withstand the pain. Is that it?”

 

He let out a chuckle. It amused him how quick to anger she was. “Well, you got me there. The Inquisitor is very observant, I see,” he retorted, his words laced with sarcasm. After no response, he looked to her busy hands, curious to see what she was so occupied with. “What is that? A halla?”

 

“Skip the pleasantries. We may look the same, but that does not mean we are.” Her icy glare and cold harsh words sent shivers down his spine. He pushed off the tree, asserting a more formal posture.

 

“I’ve studied your people, culture and history; crossed paths with them once or twice even. I am not Dalish, true enough, but I know what it’s like to be an outsider. We are more similar than you think.”

 

Verana paused for a short moment staring at the halla-shaped carving, then, with a furrowed brow, sighed heavily. Solas silently watched her as she drew another blade from her belt; this one much narrower and sleeker. She brought the wood close to her face and squinted her eyes as she carefully shaped the curves of the horns.  Cute, he thought.

 

“Do you know that you chew your lip when you’re concentrating?” he asked, cocking his head to the side. It was a sincere question. Verana side-eyed him then swerved her body around, her back now facing toward him. “I do not!” she growled defiantly, now fully focused on not chewing her lip.

 

A warm smile grew on his face and he stepped forward to sit beside her. “I just have a keen eye for detail, I suppose.” Verana suddenly turned to him. “So you’ve been watching me?” she said, a look of dismay across her reddening face. “Watching? No. More like observing. But then again, I observe everything around me. Force of habit, I’m afraid,” he explained. “Nevertheless, I’ve found that beauty often lies in the details. Wouldn’t you agree?” His eyes were fixed upon her. “I think... you should avert your eyes now,” she said, blushing profusely.

 

“Very well.” He reached his hands towards the woodcarving.“May I?” Verana hesitated, but then decided this might be a good opportunity to test his skill and precision. She handed the wood and knife to him, and smiled to herself arrogantly. She watched him as he carved around the intrinsic antlers of the halla with such delicacy and care; it was like he had done this a thousand times before. She was impressed, bewildered and slightly annoyed all at the same time.

 

After a time, he handed them back to her then stood up. He turned to her and said, “Sera and I are going hunting. I should head back to the camp.”

 

“Dareth shiral,” Verana said, staring at the beautifully detailed carving in her hands.

 

Solas smiled at her and nodded. “Ma serannas, Inquisitor.”

Not too strange. My hair has always been a light brown/blonde but my eyebrows are really dark almost black.

But like you said it doesn't matter since he's bald.

As promised, a little late but here nonetheless - my Get To Know Your Fellow Solassians meme answers.

 

Hi everyone, I'm Solas   I'm MJ. I'm 23. I'm from Scotland, so my timezone is GMT. In terms of my gender and sexual orientation I identify as queer (nonbinary & bi/pansexual respectively). After various degrees in subjects like zoology and wildlife biology, I now work full-time in an animal shelter. I have one dog and four rats. How long have you been a Solassian for?

I was an early pioneer of the "Bald Elfy McSmuggins" moniker variations! I was very taken with the male apparent-mage elf standing off to one side in the background of the War Room concept art with the sly/smug smirk on his face and the interesting hair.

 

What first attracted you to Solas as a character?

dat expression. It also helped that he was a male elf, I have a soft spot for them. The hoo-hah over how "ugly" he was and the complaints about his baldness cemented me in his corner. Since then every tidbit we learned about him solidified my feelings even more - the food description, the Welsh accent, his status as a Fade expert, the meaning of his name in Elvish and all that stuff. I also like the character because there are major aspects of his personality that I can relate to - introversion, reservedness, etc. 

 

What aspect of Solas's character are you most looking forwards to in DA:I?

There are several things I'm jointly really excited about - his accent & voice-acting, his romance arc & interactions with female Lavellan, his unique perspective on the world, his friendship with Cole and his Fade insight. I have a feeling a lot of light will be shed on some of the mysteries of the Fade through the character of Solas.

 

Do you have a favorite piece of Solas art/fanfic/other fan creation?

It's a cop-out I know but I love the creations that were made by people in this thread. It's pretty special to me that you choose to share them with us. Outside of this thread, I enjoy the work of aimo, officialvarrictethras, kurgy, kelgrid and apfelgranate.

 

What's your pet Solas theory?

I don't actually have one. The Ancient Elf Theory seems to be a recurring one in this thread, I have to admit it is an intriguing notion. I don't really subscribe to the theory that Solas is in some way a bad guy, tied to the bad guy or that he will betray the Inquisition. Currently my favorite thing to speculate about is the "super story reason" as to why Solas's romance is race-gated and so exclusive.

 

Tell us about the Inquisitor that you plan to romance Solas with?

Gryff Lavellan. I actually have a suspicion that she won't be able to have a completed romance with Solas. That's not a bad thing! It's realistic and would be staying true to Solas's character. Gryff is all rough edges, sharp angles and hard lines. Proud to be Dalish, loves and hates fiercely, slow to trust and quick to anger, some black and white thinking (for example she's prejudiced towards humans). To an extent she's pretty feral and warlike. Violence first, questions later. I can see her thuggish nature - battering her way through situations, solving problems through intimidation - splitting and Dalish supremacisty-streak bringing her into conflict with Solas. They will probably clash a few times. He's very much the open-minded, it's-more-complicated-than-that intellectual. I can see him disapproving of and getting frustrated with her worldviews and brutishness, to the extent that a relationship would not be able to progress between them game mechanics-wise. Who knows though - if it is possible after all I think he'd be good at tempering her tendencies and causing her to do some self-reflection and think about the way she conducts herself.

 

There were some other additional questions someone added onto the end, I can't find them just now but will answer them later.
