Ugh.... I have to build a wind chime for my Physics class that's due in three weeks.... I didn't think it would be this complicated..... Someone distract me with some Solas

So how do you guys think they game would have looked without the one year delay? Personally I think that maybe you would have been able to be a part of one of these factions, since the inquisitor was human only and the backgrounds would have been more detailed, so maybe you could have played as a grey warden or a templar, thoughts?

I've been sick all week, so I missed a lot.

 

As far as Gaider, I wouldn't be surprised if relationships could end badly. I mean, in one of the early videos..

It appeared that Sera was dead. Or at the very least knocked out during the scene with Leliana and Alexius. Which makes me more than a little concerned, since I want to romance her too.

 

I'm not a huge fan of super sad romances, but sometimes I like them much more than I probably should. Xan's romance mod in BG2 makes me cry every time I play through it. But it remains one of my all time favorites.

 

I also love sugary-sweet romances. Like Valen in HotU, Alistair, Zevran.. I'd even include Fenris, because it's so intense and Hawke brings out a brighter side to him in the friendship romance.

 

The only romances I haven't been able to do yet are those in DA2 that feel like trainwrecks. So.. I haven't romanced Izzy or Merrill. Though I did take the plunge on Anders.

 

Spoilered for length, and because the Ander's romance has been beaten to death several times over in conversation. At least.

I liked Anders' romance. But it was heartbreaking to watch him spiral downwards from Awakening. Also, some of his early romance dialogue is so heavy. He's wallowing in fear and grief so much that his romance dialogues are over the top. And Hawke's flippant flirts in the face of rejection just make it worse. I can't take the beginning of the romance seriously. I spend the whole time giggling about how emo Anders is. I might be a terrible person. Maybe. Probably? (I do enjoy playing Cards Against Humanity.) So yes. Probably.

 

I don't want to experience Anders again. I really don't. I liked him, I mostly liked the romance. I hated the way he used Hawke, and didn't trust him/her in the end.

 

I will be so upset if Solas turns into Hans. I would lose it. Then replay it again. Because Frozen did the hidden villain SO well. I still love his song with Anna.

 

I can totally see Solas and Lavellan singing that song. Especially a silly Lavellan dancing and singing around him while he watches with a confused look on his face.

 

Lavellan:Can I just say something crazy?

 

Solas: I don't think I'll be able to stop you..

 

Lavellan: All my life has been a series of doors in my face, then suddenly I bumped into youuuu! ~bumps into Solas playfully~
 

Solas: What..Inquisitor? What are you doing?

Yeah he did and that's why I don't like the a$$quisitor and will never play one it just was never funny to me I know it's just a game and PW was just doing it to make sure everything goes the way it should he even said he didn't like angering Solas and Cole.... but still poor Solas.

Doesn´t really matter Haha yeah and then they went and made Varric ten times better looking in DA:I Still think that was a missed opportunity, sort of like how I say that the Mass Effect team missed one with Joker. There are a lot of options this time around, though I prefer planning my characters to save time more or less,having trouble deciding though

Would be an interesting parallel if you could of played as a templar or grey warden. I still think it little lack luster compared to playing as a Qunari, elf or dwarf. I can't see it as any other way now lol.

I think I ended up playing through Alistair's romance about 6 times.. I actually killed my first copy of DAO on disc by playing it so much. It wouldn't let me install the game from it anymore.

I think my first list of romances through games looks something like:

Alistair

Kaidan/Liara.(I think Kaidan got to me first.. Then I jumped ship to a different playthrough as soon as I met Liara.)

Garrus.(I technically ditched Kaidan for Garrus.)

Fenris.(He ninjamances me like Alistair does. That voice. And those puppy dog eyes. )

Anders.(I had to try it. I enjoy flirting with both him and Fenris and getting jealousy dialogues.)

Zevran.(I finally made it back to DA:O to try other romances.)

Leliana.(My next play through of Origins.. I think?)

 

 

I have to make an assquisitor. It's official. Though I keep saying that I'm going to play that type of character in every game at some point, and I never do. I just can't be mean to Alistair, or Zevran, or Leliana, or Fenris..

Awesome! Yeah and to think that Solas wasn´t going to be a LI at all and neither was Cullen, so the only LI that I would have been interested in for my female characters would have been Iron Bull.Haha I´m having the same problem as you, haha at this point I´m probably just going to ask someone to choose for me I like Izzys romance too and as a added bonus you don´t have to hear about her and Fenris hooking up if you romance either of them so hers was the only romance I could do aside from the Fenris one. I tried romancing Anders, I really did but some of the lines he had just made me cringe haha, but I did manage to complete his rivalmance once with my pro templar aggressive Hawke so yeah trainwrecky is the word I would use there

Anyways I have had my Hawke Romance Isabela a few times and really liked how she changed by Act 3. I could never romance Merrill though cause I just never agreed with what she was doing with Blood magic and I would always end up in Rivalry with her,still I liked Merrill I love the part where Varric goes to check on her and he tells her she will wilt if she doesn't get out into the sunshine and she says 'I'm not a plant Varric."

Izzy's rivalmance seems less like a trainwreck from what I've seen of it. I tend to think of it as such, because of her theft of the book. On the friendship path, it seems like she'll just continue doing what she's always done, regardless of how destructive it could be. As much as I like her character, I tend to think of her more as a friend. I like the friendship with her, Varric, and Hawke. It's very three musketeers like.

 

I see a lot of myself in both Merill and Izzy, which is part of the reason I have trouble getting around to romancing them.(Especially Merill. Awkward, babbling, and sweet. Pretty much me in a nutshell.) I will eventually, But Fenris keeps laughing, and giving me puppy dog eyes.. I really can't resist him.

 

Varric's comment is great! I didn't know they would comment on romance dialogue. They never do during Fenris's.

Now this thing about Solas being an Ancient Elf coming out of Uthenera...I wouldn't mind that being true at all it just kinda feels far - fetched because PW said he is from a small village,maybe that is just an excuse so it won't give away spoilers I don't know or maybe it's true he is from a small village and is not an Ancient Elf at all. Luckily we have a little over a month to find out.

Now this thing about Solas being an Ancient Elf coming out of Uthenara...I wouldn't mind that being true at all it just kinda feels far - fetched because PW said he is from a small village,maybe that is just an excuse so it won't give away spoilers I don't know or maybe it's true he is from a small village and is not an Ancient Elf at all. Luckily we have a little over a month to find out.

I don´t know, they´ve been sort of vague about him and the phrase "It´s more complicated than that" has been brought up more than once, he´s also very knowledgeable about the fade and his romance is also restricted to female elves. Also he shares some similarities with Felassan from the masked empire. I wouldn´t be surprised if he turned out to be one but then again I actually want him to be an ancient elf so maybe I´m biased

I already formed my theory of him being an ancient elf since reading TME, as well as the reasons behind his race gating being related to the eluvians and how only elves can really travel the world in between them. But this clarifies a few hazy points that I had; an outline is always useful. The only thing I am dubious about is how BioWare has already confirmed that we don't have any "Bad" romances this time around, but that may be able to have a bit of grey area.

Like, I've seen a lot of people interpreting my post to mean that I think he's going to royally screw over his LI.... and I don't.

 

I just added this bit on, but: I don’t think that Solas working for The Elder One (TEO) means that he’s evil, or a bad guy, or going to enjoy toying with the Inquisitor. I think there’s any number of reasons he could be working for TEO (being forced to, elf/mage rights, curiosity, etc). I think how his narrative plays out is going to be affected by lots of things, like approval, romance status, etc. Like, who knows?? Maybe Solas will kind of do what Felassan did for Briala and stick it to him.

 

I think of Solas' "betrayal" as less as a black and white thing, and more of a depends-on-circumstances-and-your-choices kind of thing. And I think that if Solas is in a romance with the Inquisitor, he'll definitely be in love with them if he says he is. 

 

I mean, falling in love with the person you're supposed to be spying on? Such an old trope.

Oh, it's your tumblr? Aah so cool! ^^ Np, a friend linked me to it because all of my friends know me as this really huge Solas fan so they thought it was really interesting, as well! I ended up liking it, probably should reblog because it was so well written.

 

And I definitely agree. Solas himself is about seeing the world not in black and white, but with many shades of grey. That my apply to his character and actions as well, if this happens to be the case. That's why I think that there's definitely lots of room for grey. And PW described him as earnest and I really don't think he'll turn out to betray us at least in the conventional sense.

 

And it is an old trope. Can't say I'm not a fan of it however! *cheesy romantic*

Ariane - because I like Ariane   She's probably my favorite of our Dalish companions, even though we get her so briefly. She loves her people, values their history, but is open-mided enough to go along with a couple of crazy humans and even befriend Finn despite herself. I think Solas would get along with Merrill okay, but I could see him lecturing her. A lot. And him getting frustrated by her stubborness, especially in the face of how naive she can be. I think he would find Velanna way too spiteful and black-and-white in her views. He'd probably try to lecture her too but she would just bite his head off for it

I agree that he'd get along splendidly with Ariane, though I also think he'd be intrigued by Merrill's line of thought, haha. I mean, if he thinks the Fade and its denizens are more complicated than Good or Evil... and he's as fascinated by elven history as she is... ahh, I would give anything to hear a conversation between those two!

Oh gosh, as hard as it was to be patient, I'm sooo glad about the delay. I liked being Hawke but I wouldn't want to HAVE to be human again. I mean, there are so many interesting cultures and peoples in Thedas, that I would hate to be restricted to humans... I love dwarves and elves too much. The delay also means that we get SOLAS (and Cullen, lol) so really, the game as it was a year ago was simply... inferior.

Hello there~! I thought your theory was pretty convincing, myself. I'd be just fine if Solas turned out to be "just" an eccentric hedge mage, but I'm really intrigued by the thought that he might be something ~more~. Especially since I enjoyed TME and Felassan's character so very much!

He could very well be the thing in the fade in TME. Hell, I think he is now.

 

But yes, I highly doubt he's working for The Elder One.

 

My guess may be that he wants to restart Elven civilization. Which could be another reason for his race-gating.

I think I may have said this before but I don't think Solas will be an actual ancient elf.   However, I do think he is going to be from a new group of elves, neither Dalish nor alienage.   This is based on the few lines in WoT which state that at the time Tevinter attacked Arlathan a few elves fled to the farthest reaches of Thedas and so were not enslaved.   If I understand this correctly, it means there will be a group of elves that trace back directly to the ancient elves.    I think Felassan came from this group and they have been periodically sending out members of their clan to see how the world is developing and offer aid as they feel appropriate.     If Solas did come from such a clan, then it would be true to say that he came from a small village because their settlements would necessarily be small to remain undetected.    Since Haven was able to remain hidden away and forgotten from the time of Andraste, it seems perfectly feasible that a small settlement of elves could likewise have remained hidden for a very long period of time.  

 

Whatever the case, I'm really hoping to hear loads more about elves from Solas.    I don't believe he will betray you unless you do something totally against his beliefs.    Since he is unlikely to romance someone he doesn't agree with, even if they are an elf, I'm fairly hopeful that his romance will be a positive experience but just a bit afraid it might be an Alistair type romance where he would be prepared to sacrifice himself to save your life.   Then again, since we can continue playing after completing the main storyline, I can't see any of the romances ending that badly because it would be a bit grim to continue if it did.      We've had the tragic hero romance with Alistair and the lover/betrayer romance with Anders, so may be this time we'll be let off the hook.
