^Yeah, it could just be that he is looking slightly upward in the quote pic.  When you turn your head up, the level of your eyes appear to rise above the tops of your ears, and this seems to be the case with Solas.

I'm definitely missing his old face too but his appearance was never really all that important to me so I'm not TOO bothered. I understand your reservations, though!

But hey, it's no biggie. I'm all about Solas's personality and I'm super attached to it so far!

It looks like the placement of the eyes and nose are set that way to elongate the face and to sharpen the cheek bones. On the bright side at least they didn't give him Disney Princess eyes like they did Merrill.

I don't think Allan would do it , because it would put him in a strange situation with his collegues.
Besides well , fans are always complaining about the design of characters so I doubt they would take us seriously.

Why would it be strange? He seems to be (at least to me) the most active on the forums and thusly sees what fans are talking the most about. But I understand being a messenger is not his top priority haha xD

But perchance it's just me, but it doesn't seem like a complaint, more of an observation that should have been caught by the team. Unless they purposefully are ignoring facial anatomy to make him look more...exotic? But it just ends up looking strange. Even if they were going for the DA2 look, he still needs more forehead. His eyes are being where they are don't seem to give his skull enough room for a brain. (I'm totally not obsessing over it now //sobs at his attention to details)

To me the other screenshots he looks fine but this one...it had me going..

Whoever said they were entranced by Solas's hands, I'm totally with you. I'm impressed by how much better hands look in DAI! To be blunt, DA2 hands were just.....

Usually the lower face is elongated for longer faces, mostly the jaw and nose.

Edit: OH GOD RYNJ WHY LOL. those hands are the hands of nightmares.

Maybe we can do the Allan summon dance and get him to slyly pass our thoughts about it to the animators. I think it would be a small fix and I sound shallow but it would improve his face so much!!

 

...Speaking as an animator, I can say that what might be a small modeling fix would cause a downstream ripple of other necessary changes (any other models that would interact with his head/face like hats and masks, the texture, normal map, the skinning/weighting and then testing every animation with the new weights to make sure things don't explode, etc.) They could have software or scripts I'm not familiar with to ease all that, I suppose...

 

I would like to think that what we're seeing is a lighting or camera angle thing. The way things look while animated and moving tends to look significantly different than a still image, as well. 

 

EDIT: Besides, while I can see the facial proportion thing now that it's been pointed out, I don't have any issues with it. I think he looks fine as it is. (I like the angular silhouette in particular)

Well you could try.But Allan is not working with the artists...or designer or whatever.

Imagine him going to their office and asking if Solas face is normal?Because fans are complaining (and we do complain all the time about companions faces)

I know if I was him , I don't think I would do it.

I was going to mention that about his scar..I hope they didn't get rid of his scar I loved it,and his adorable butt chin! 

 

 

EDIT: I still think he's Handsome I was just so used to the older pic with his scar and dimple.

Yeesh... I remember the DA2 hands looking weird but not that bad. xD Ah, good times. It really helps you appreciate the small, easily overlooked improvements much more.

I'm curious about how today's information has affected everyone's opinions on potential romances (or just Solas in general). Like...my first pick was Cullen (loved him since DAO) but now my first playthrough is definitely going to be Solas if he's a LI.. Anyone else in the same boat? I've always had Cullen and Solas as my two favorite options in the game.. I'm just surprised how much Solas has edged out Cullen

 

If he isn't a romance, who are you going to go for instead? Did anyone have zero interest in him before the new info but now are considering him as an option? Or is he just going to be a bro to your inquisitor and you aren't interested in a romance with him (if there is one)?

I'm curious as well. It seems like everyone who came into this thread had something they liked about Solas. Personally I like his views on being open minded. He sounds like he'll be a great companion to ask for advice when you have to make tough decision.
