Now I'm really starting to wonder if companions can die in this game.  I never got a definitive answer with Sera's fate in that E3 gameplay.

Ok, here is what I have. It's a bald elven male, though I don't think it's necessarily Solas. Considering a lot of the action takes place in a Grey Warden fortress, it could be that this is just an elven GW mage.

LOL.  I love my Warden, but I'm so flipping sick of hearing people complain about the Warden's absence in the last two games that I'd almost rather have him/her disappear down a dragon's gullet

That would be rather ironic, wouldn't it? They managed to kill the Archdemon, yet get mauled by a common dragon not long after (I know its been years but still)?

Even if that is an Elven male it's not Solas. I don't think they would put a companions death in a game trailer. Plus Sera didn't die, I think she was pretty much just knocked out,I don't think they would put a companions death scene in a demo...that would be just wrong.

Is it wrong that if that were a companion and they did die like that I would totally laugh myself stupid? It'd be such a ridiculously abrupt way for a companion to die it'd be quite funny, and deliciously evil. But then again, I am a total masochist >.>

sigh. Manuals are the thing I miss mostly in these last years about videogames. Reading and smelling the manual is just like starting playng before really playng. Few pages, but they occuped my mind during the travel from the shop to home.

 

I'm such a huge nostalgic...

 

The car rides home from our shopping trips always consisted of my brother and I in the back seat poring over the manual and the box for the game we'd bought. Those times were about the only time we didn't fight like cat and dog. I may just do the same with the box for Inquisition once it comes. (I also miss those massive boxes you'd get PC games in, terrible for storage, but man I loved them).

 

I'm starting to get really bad about it. I heard the Red Dwarf theme just the other day and I couldn't stop smiling. Why did my dad let me watch that show when I was a kid, anyway?

And if I have to worry about my companions dying randomly in cutscenes out of my control, then I need to be prepared.

"I don’t think she can do it," Bull says, eyeballing the two elves standing side-by-side. "He’s just so… noodly. He’ll be sort of… everywhere, won’t he?"

 

"Her arms’re thick, though, lookit ‘em!" Sera crows back. "As long as he holds still, she can do it, easy!"

 

The Inquisitor glances sideways at the Inquisition’s resident Fade expert. He gave her a look that begged for an out, but she only shrugged her broad shoulders and offered a wry half-smile.

 

"Think she can lift him over her head?"

 

"Nah, probably not that much. But I bet she could carry ‘im princess style, easy."

 

Varric finally pipes up from the sidelines. “Now that, I gotta see.”

 

They all looked to Nimue expectantly, standing barefoot in the training yard next to a very uncomfortable-looking Solas, wearing nothing but her breastband and a pair of snug, short breeches and her hand wraps. She looks at him again, tilts her head wordlessly, and he heaves a deep, put-upon sigh. “Fine, fine. If you must.”

 

She smiles, steps behind him, and he turns to the side, bending a bit to curl one long arm around her shoulders. He’s almost startled by how solid they are, thick with muscle that seems completely at odds with the smallness of her frame. He can’t quite force down the impulse to squeeze the hard muscle, and he feels the tips of his ears grow hot when the Inquisitor gives him a knowing look with those sly dark eyes.

And then his feet are off the ground, and he bites back a sharp noise of surprise as he’s scooped up in an expert “bridal” carry. He’s really not that far from the ground, but it’s disorienting anyway. And startling, really. The muscles under his hands are barely straining to hold him. Inquisitor Lavellan looks as unruffled as always.

 

And then she starts moving, and he makes a low, startled sound in his throat. She crossed the training yard once, then heads back and does it again, then once more for good measure. Her gait is a bit uneven, but that’s to be expected. When she finally does set him down, he’s a bit weak in the knees. He could never call her dainty. She is far from it, but she isn’t tall, or particularly broad, but she is solid. While many say Solas looks as if a stiff breeze could knock him over, he’s reasonably sure the Inquisitor could stand in the midst of a hurricane and remain unmoved. He’s seen himself how she batters down doors and punches through enemies, but still. She’s a sight to behold.

Sera, Bull, and Varric are cheering for her, clapping her on the back, praising her strength when he looks at her and his heart clenches.

He may be in trouble.

I don't know why, but I have the feeling if they used the Warden again it would be at the very end of the Dragon Age. It would act as kind of a poetic ending. You started with me and you will with me. Or, the end of the Dragon Age your character will be the Old God Baby, but all this is just fan theory.

Although they didn't give a straight answer  (why I even thought they would at this point is beyond me), at least they said if companion deaths occurred, they would be treated with respect.   That now makes me somewhat doubt that that's him getting eaten.
