I think I'm gonna go with a rogue - an archer.

Mostly because I like the thought of a mundane person suddenly having A GLOWING MAGICAL NUKE IN THEIR HAND OMFGGG. Luckily, Lavellan has a hot nerd elf boyfriend who knows his stuff and has it all under control. I like the thought of her breaking faces while he facepalms in the background... plus, a non-mage Inquisitor will probably have fewer preconceptions about the Fade, so that dialogue with Solas will be fun to explore.

I just rly rly like the thought of an athletic young thang with an older skinny boyfriend. DON'T ASK.

I'm still torn whether my first character will be an archer or a mage. My Warden will be a Dalish rogue and my Hawke a mage for the Keep on the first playthrough, but beyond making my first Inquisitor an elf who romances Solas, I feel VERY indecisive about so many things. I imagine myself flipping a coin on gameday.

I love the idea of being a rogue that is super interested in the fade and rallies for teh mages and is like, "Man. I wish I had that talent." So she's basically a super curious gal that wants to know everything that Solas knows.

 

My mage is going to be a different playthough. She'll be a Qunari who is the opposite of the stereotype; basically a sweet and gentle flower. She and Solas will be besties.

Honestly, I didn't find Solas' banter with Varric to be racist.  Do you know how many times I go through my day declaring that I hate people?  And I am not perceived as racist; people just get on my nerves.  It's an occurrence introverts sometimes find.  I think it's just sarcasm in all of its cheeky-goodness.

 

As for him being race-gated, so what? Some LIs have sexual preferences, and no one seems to be getting on their case, or Cullen's case.  

 

When it comes to either area, and trying to declare Solas as racist, I think people are just reading way too far into small, insignificant things.  It's just making mountains out of mole hills.

I personally don't think Solas is racist (although that's one of those tricky situations for me where even if he was prejudiced against humans ...I wouldn't care so much considering how much elves have suffered because of them, and how little power they have), but eh. All of our analysis and thoughts right now are pretty baseless---doesn't stop us from doing it!

Im having a hard time deciding what class my female elf will be. I was thinking rogue at first but after seeing all this videos Ive been thinking warrior. If I go warrior im going to go with a two handed weapon build. Thinking my second playthrough will be with a qunari mage.

My Fem elf that romances Solas will likely be a timid rogue who is curious about her new found powers. They do give her the means to better help and interact with people outside the dalish. Wondering if we talked about what Solas's diet might be? Think I'll rule out the exclusive tree bark diet. Maybe Solas sustains himself on ancient history and sheer force of will.

All those creatures there are unpredictable and angry', and Solas is like, 'Humans can be the same way too, but we don't let the chance of that stop us from interacting with them ever.' He was saying spirits aren't so different from people.

I was also planning a delicate female qunari mage playthrough ... d: but decided to try my hand at that personality in a male qunari instead. I hadn't thought about how he and Solas might get on ... but if I can make him as nurturing and prissy as I hope, I expect Solas will both abhor and adore the apostate depending on how worn down his patience is in that moment.


Ugh. I went back to listen to GDL say my name in that stupid video I bought. xD;; I expect I'll be replaying it a few more times after or during my Solas romance.

I agree. I saw the comment in a different way. Weekes said in his Solas profile intreview that "honestly, Solas hates people who look at him and just see an elf. He considers that kind of attitude part of the black-and-white dichotomy that has led to so much tragedy in the Dragon Age world. Templars versus mages, demons versus spirits, elves versus humans… it’s more complicated than that.", so based on this Solas was not, I think, singling out humans. Solas in this banter was saying humans or a better word would of been people, are all different and some have their quirks, does not mean we stop interacting with people all together. Instead we listen and learn to what all kinds of people have to offer us in knowledge and understanding.

 

Also did anyone think that banter reminded them of the banter Merrill has with Anders in Act 2?

 

• Anders: Do Dalish honestly not recognize the difference between demons and beneficial spirits?
• Merrill: We've never thought of the Fade as the home of our gods.
• Merrill: It is another realm, another people's home. No different or more foreign than, say, Orzammar.

• Anders: But have you never studied the types of demons? They break down very clearly into different sins—

This seems like more in tow with what Solas was trying to say in that Banter I think. That solas just views the citizens of the fade as another set of people that need to be understood in greater detail then we have yet to explore.

Also to the previous question made I will playing a Female Elf Mage my first playthrough. Mages just seem like a lot of fun in DA:I and I want to be a fade expert, an arcane master and super nerd on the arts of magic lol.

Definitely making a Dalish rogue for the first play through. I have posted this before, but it's been a long while, and haven't posted in some time.....busy.

 

Ulee Lavellan

 

When they first announced that they were adding races again, I immediately conjured plans for a City Elf. Alas, that was not on the table. Now, I have nothing against the Dalish, and enjoyed my Dalish runs in DAO. But, I really liked the little backstory and personality that I was inventing. Best to make lemonade, once we were informed that there would be no City Elf option.

 

It was then that I decided, 'maybe there was a way to incorporate my previous story line, with the new elven background'. Here are the musing that I came up with (and here is hoping that specifics to my storyline are not completely flushed down the proverbial toilet, once the game comes out )

 

Backstory.....

The alienage was not even a precarious haven. After their house had burned, from a smithing incident, they had no where to go. Peoples' means, within the other elven households, were already stretched too thin. They would just be a burden to another family. Father had decided that moving to another town, where he had second cousins willing to aid them, would be their best recourse. So off they trudged. 

 

The road should have been boring. Long. Most of the people they passed were indifferent at best. Ulee, at age nine, still saw it as an adventure. This pleased her father, who had the spirit of a true globetrotter in him, and he would relish in his young daughter's wonders of it all. While delighting in a particularly sunny day of trekking, they were interrupted by anxious chatter, from the few passerby's they met. 

 

Slavers.

 

The main road was no longer safe....especially to "their kind". With worry and expedience, both Ulee's mother and father redirected their path into the wilds. This too was a risk, but one that both her mother and father believed less perilous. Over the next few weeks, they traversed over ruddy deer tracks, streams, and what looked to be ancient road ways. Difficult to decipher, but gave them a sense of direction. Using the sun and stars for guidance, beyond the others, papa was sure they would still make civilization safely.

 

Ulee's father first noticed her mother lagging. Then spied the telltale signs of fever. Teeth chattering, under a sheen of sweat. This wouldn't do. He stopped their little caravan to rest. What he had hoped would be no more than a day or two, turned into five. Mother wasn't getting worse, but she wasn't getting better either. He had become resolute in going further, in the hopes of finding some kind of assistance. A town, travelling chantry members. Hell, even a mercenary group - assuming they weren't hostile - would suffice. He needed something more than rough cut elfroot and water, to set his wife's illness to pass.

 

Though trepidation vied as a forefront thought, Ulee kept it at bay by telling her mother silly stories. Most were about the imagined quests, her and her friends back in the alienage, used to have. Time seemed to have halted to a crawl, waiting for father to return, but she tried her best not to push her worries onto her mother. Not even a decade old, yet she understood the gravitas at hand. Thankfully, her wait was not unbearable. Her father returned in just a few short days, and without incident. In tow, were two strangely clad elves with long bows and blades. They were Dalish.

 

Travelling to the clan camp, gave Ulee a sense of relief. Even though she had heard stories of the Dalish - and not all of them good - she wholly believed they would help. And help they did.

 

Once in the camp, the Keeper and her First, immediately began caring for her mother. Father was unsure what to do next. He was beyond grateful for their assistance, but he felt like such a foreigner. He had even confided in his little adventurer about such feelings. But his daughter assured him, as much as a child can do so for a parent, that they would be fine. Ulee trusted these people. And why wouldn't she. They would save her mother.....she knew they would.

 

Within roughly two weeks, her mother showed true improvement. The fever was long gone, and some of her strength was returning. This seemed a good time to consider hitting the road, once more. However, the Keeper wished to talk to the father.....in private. Ulee was never privy to the actual conversation, but was informed later, that they would need to stay. At least a bit longer. And so they stayed....

 

Over the next year and half, her mother would take ill from time to time, and her constitution was always less than optimal. Ulee was now nearing 11, and had become quite accustom to the Dalish ways. Her father, while brimming with gratitude, always seemed a tad lost. It saddened her to see him in such a way, and had no doubt it stemmed from that initial private meeting he had, with the clan's Keeper, those several moons ago.

 

Nearly every night, papa would sit Ulee down after supper, and teach her about the world of human's, other alienages, and the surface dwarves he did business with back in their old home. He didn't want her to forget. As comforting as it was to both her mother and father, that she was becoming well integrated into the clan, her father felt it important to keep the rest of the world active in Ulee's mind. 

 

At 13 her mother passed. It had been nearly four years since they had left the alienage, with the hopes of a new start with family, in a new town, a new alienage. Instead, her mother had asked her father for a promise. She had seen her daughter begin to blossom into a young adult, amongst these Dalish elves, and deemed it unfair to her, to up-heave her for the wants of another life in an unknown town. Reluctantly, but with understanding, her father agreed. Thus Ulee spent the rest of her youth, as a young member of the clan Lavellan. 

 

At 17 she was given the opportunity to become an adult. Her father, who had continued with his teachings of the outside world, sadly nodded to her request. He would not deny her a choice, that the clan was more than happy to offer. She too was saddened by this. Not because she didn't wish to pick her vallaslin, but because she still held a place in her heart and mind, for the world beyond the clan. The one she came from. But her desire for this, was stronger, and with that she made her choice. She endured the pain, and became a woman. 

 

She was now also well trained in the handling of two blades. This was something her father was quite happy about. Smithing had been a long term trade for him and his father before him. To see his daughter's prowess at wielding these twin blades, gave him a warmth of pride. He was so proud, that he took up smithing again, in order to provide her with more blades. Before that, he had helped out with the master craftsman of the clan, and had taken to odd jobs around the camp. He felt more purposeful when asking the Keeper and Master for such a position. They did not deny his appeal.

 

Over the next dozen or so years, she stayed true to his teachings, but was very much entrenched in the Dalish way of life. However, as her father aged, she could see his hope for her continued adventures. He never pressed her for it, but she could tell by their talks that he still wished for something more in her life. She had stayed "unbound" in part to her carefree nature, and her likes and wants varying much more, than others in the clan. And perhaps, it was her way of assuring her father.....one day, she would see more. Do more.

 

One day, the Keeper asked to speak with her. This would turn out to be a catalyst for changes to come. It was time for an adventure, the likes not even her father would have divined. The world of men beckoned, but it was the world of dreams and nightmares that greated her......So it began.

I personally don't think Solas is racist (although that's one of those tricky situations for me where even if he was prejudiced against humans ...I wouldn't care so much considering how much elves have suffered because of them, and how little power they have), but eh. All of our analysis and thoughts right now are pretty baseless---doesn't stop us from doing it!

I don't think he's racist, he may be suspicious of humans due to the fact that most treat elfs like dirt. But that's hardly racism.

 

I'll be romancing Solas with a warrior myself, one whose very interested in the fade and magic.

Solas: As much as is possible. The Fade contains a wealth of knowledge for those who know where to look.
Varric: Sure, but I don't know how you dream, let alone wander around in there. Especially when the **** that comes out of the Fade is generally (...) cranky.
Solas: So are humans. But we continue to interact with them... when we must.

 

I think Elves honestly have reason to not like humans. So this doesn't surprise me.

 

My inquisitor won't be too happy with having a sword thrusted in her face by Cassandra. Hopefully, that's when Solas comes in somehow.

I really hope that I can make a nice looking inquisitor. Looking at the capabilities of the CC, I am hopeful. I found it much more limiting to create what I wanted to on the last games. Anyway, for my face I was going to go for something like this
