But then again, I find it rather funny how some fans feel he may be a racist because he called humans cranky. Joke or not, multiple other characters in the series have made little off-hand remarks of the sort and nobody tears into them.

Anders and Fenris in particular are full of awful remarks in DA2. Maybe it's because Solas is straight and race-gated. Because in fandom logic, not being able to romance a character automatically makes that character more dislikeable or something ![]()

Not really true though, Its sort of similar to the Merrill thing. Why shoulnt she be mad that Hawk was given an ancient artifact of her people and refuses to give to her. But the way she handled while bad made sense from a character standpoint. I'm just happy knowing Solas has wit and hes not gonna be the stone face serious guy all the time. Like it was said before Him and Cole are something special.

That's true, but that was in-game, when we knew more about the characters. Now people are taking tidbits and making huge mountains, as if we could know and judge the characters before meeting them. It's a silly part of following a game pre-release.

...I think it's far easier to give Solas a pass for making some comments about humans considering what elves have gone through.
Humans have pretty much trampled over elves religiously, socially and politically.

I am curious as to what your reactions would be if Solas did in fact want biological children from a romanced inquisitor.

In truth I wouldn't mind at all. I've never had a romance in a game outside of the Sims where my character can have the hope for a family. It would be a refreshing change.
But since many people don't like the idea, I think that's something that should be an option.

All the above is true. Man, I just want it to be Nov. 18th so I can dig into the meat of this game. I even vowed to stop watching streams so I could get class work done!
And his preferences might have a bit to do with the backlash, as a few might want to justify why they won't(can't) romance him by vilifying him. Personally, I think it's just overeager people but eh, no idea to be honest.

Personally I hope that his reasoning isn't children mostly because....been there, done that. He already has enough basic parallels with Morrigan haha.

When you say children's reasoning, does it mean as careless as Merril? Because she didn't seem to be able to predict what consequences her actions could have.

I personally wouldn't want to deal with that in the game tbh.
edit: I wouldn't mind it if it's an optional thing If it does end up in the story. I guess my reaction would be more ambivalent. I don't think I can give an accurate answer without actually interacting with him in the game first.

If it's something like a bit of dialogue about how having a family would be nice, I don't see the harm. If he comes to you the night before the big battle and tells you if you get knocked up with his baby then you'll survive the bad guy, we might have a problem.
Seriously though, he wouldn't be the first character to mention children, if he even does so. I see no reason to carry any kind of "ew, children" view into a video game where my older character probably has kids already anyway, considering the context of her world and culture.

I think him wanting little elvhen babies would be amazing. Only if he can keep the desire contained during the War.
Maybe a side effect of him wandering the fade so long is that he has found out what he himself is attracted to above all and doesn't want to waste time on others? He has been through huge amounts of introspection. Maybe he's wanke-.... I'm thinking too deep on this.

I mean he's been alone for a long time and him falling in love with our Inquisitor get's him thinking of wanting a family and commitment with his love, nothing wrong with that. ^^ .I wouldn't be bothered by the wanting children along with commitment ..y'know
(I know they have said there will be no marriage in the game)
I know some people will be bothered by the having children so maybe if it was an option that would be nice. ![]()
I also have this strong feeling there will be no mentioning of having kids in the game but still if they do, having options would be good.

nope. nope, no. if the convo about children comes up, i hope there's an option of the definite NO variety. i'm playing as a straight female elf for you buddy. i don't play female elves (well.. there was that one time, but she was a dastardly blood mage, and i did it so i could do everything you're not supposed to do, and it was amazing), and playing a straight female is hard enough for me, so please don't make me have children too. i might never ever take him anywhere again, and being given no choice would be the fastest way for me to break up with him.
although, i do have to say, when it comes to it, Bioware is pretty good about giving us options when something big like that comes up. so i'm not terribly worried.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything in the game that would "make you" have children. Even if it was forced into the plot a la Morrigan, you could always turn her down.

I'm fine with that. IRL I have no interest in biological children, but characters are allowed to have preferences, and wanting children is a perfectly reasonable desire. If Solas wants kids, and we can talk about it in-game like adults, I'm all for it. At the very least, it should be interesting given his backstory. I wonder if he even knows how to interact with kids; you don't get a lot of children wandering around in ancient ruins.

The way I see the female elf only thing is this. Solas is meant to be an older person (40+) who has been quite happily living on his own, so it's not like he is going to feel the need to have a casual relationship. However, he might be interested in something more long term, that could involve starting a family at some point. So it makes sense and is being entirely fair to those he might be romancing for him to consider who he would be willing to settle down with, rather than start a romance with someone and then dump them when he finds they are not looking for the same things as he is out of a relationship. I think this makes him a really good guy and far better than Alistair who pursues a romance with the Warden and then dumps her (or keeps her on as his mistress) when she turns out to be not the right material for a queen.
So his reason could be that ultimately he wants children and he wants them to be elves, which seems perfectly okay to me. Alternatively it could simply be that he is only attracted to elves physically, just as Dorian is only attracted to men and Sera to women. It is not prejudice on his part, just the way his mind works. Surely people can respect that? I'm far more attracted to elves than humans, even though I'm a human.
The reason I was so relieved that Solas was revealed as a love interest is that it means I can romance someone as a female elf that I am genuinely attracted to, rather than pretending to be. Of course, it could be that I'll not find him attractive as a personality but from everything that has been revealed I very much doubt it.
My big disappointment in game is that there will be no corresponding love interest for my male elf as Sera is out of bounds. However, I do find Dorian attractive for a human, so it seems likely that I will be playing him as a gay Dalish hunter, who, like Dorian, has been under a lot of pressure to get married because he is such eligible material but feels that would be dishonest and unfair to the girl.

I wouldn't mind if the subject of children came up, but for it to go as far as gaining approval or disapproval from Solas on how your Inquisitor feels about the subject could get complicated.
I'm role playing Isenril as an Asexual and Asexuals can still have sex whether or not it's for having a baby or just casual. My Dalish is going to be hesitant on any kind of physical intimacy but as long as Solas respects that (given if we can say no to sex and keep going with romance which I think you can) I'll be good. But if he approaches the subject of having a family and the scene actually implies that they will be doing it for children, I hope I can have Isenril say no and she's not ready.
Then I can just headcanon it for later.
But I don't think Bioware will do another Morrigan-like romance again.

Cassandra said that they stabilized the mark, but if we want to make it stronger somehow, it might become unstable again. People pointed out that in the CC demos the green hand can be seen before the Inq goes to reach out to the woman. I'm guessing we get forcefully pulled into the Fade, which acts like a bomb shelter when the explosion happens. Maybe the mark is like a fishhook scar from whatever yanked us in. I hope I get to play a character completely freaked out in the beginning about having an interdimensional hole in her hand.
Yea I hope to be able to play a Inquisitor that gets freaked out as well, to where I can curl up on the ground and just cry! or simple have a WTF moment lol

I don't know, I don't mind him wanting something more permanent or wanting a family. I'm sure we'll have the option to say no, but it would be understandable if he wanted to break it off after that. Some people just value different things in a relationship, and that's ok.
