I was just thinking that maybe a mage would have more experience in wandering around the Fade, but I suppose since elves dream no matter what, it doesn't really matter. I'm trying to decide on what class I want to choose for my elf. I like rogues, but I also like mages. However, if I'm going to romance Solas and I want him in my party, having two mages seems a bit redundant. I suppose I'll stick with rogue, since that seems to be where my heart is.

It's not necessarily redundant to have two mages in a party, if it's possible to build such a mage then you could feasibly have two mages in the party, one that concentrates on buffing and defensive casting (like putting up walls of ice and fire to protect ranged characters) and another that focuses on pure damage dealing. We may not have dedicated healers this time around, but a two mage party shouldn't be ruled out because of it.

It's how I always build my parties in RPGs.

But I may be trying to defend my position because I normally play a mage and I always have my romanced companion in my party

Patrick Weekes's AssQusitor play through had two mages. I imagine being able to keep Barrier up consistently will be very useful.

I try to keep one of each class in a party, Rogues are essential for loot and mages are nice to have for ranged attacks.

My first PT PC will be a Rift Mage, or perhaps maybe a Rogue?

Man, it's hard to decide.

I'll be having two mages in my party (one being myself)! I've done it since Origins, has worked for me. I really want to have a Mage!Inquisitor/Solas/Cole/Sera party sometime.

I'm playing a Mage and I'll be dragging Solas everywhere with me too, as long as you have someone to soak the damage from enemies I'm not sure it will matter all that much where your damage comes from, be it Mage or Rogue...or even a 2h Warrior.

In Origins Rogue was my class of choice, I have Mage playthrough's but I was never happy having come from the circle, in DA2 I was very heavily Mage focused because it's what I always play if I can, casters are my thing in every game, love casters, pro mage.  So Dalish Mage feels like it was sent from the creators!

I want to to use that party at some point too. I think I'd rather have Sera than a warrior with my first (mage) character. Maybe after I feel like I've got a handle on the mechanics I'll risk Team Squishy.

I do the same when I play a mage I usually have my mage and another in the party and it goes well. But I might be playing a rogue (daggers) so I can take 2 mages with me every now and then (Dorian and Solas). Of course I will be taking Solas with me a lot!  :D

I always take a mage, rogue and warrior with me no matter what class I play. It'll be useful this time because I'm going to roll Knight Enchanter, so I'll probably focus Solas on AoE spells while I bring the smackdown more up close.

But no matter what, I'd find some way to shove him in there  I'm tempted to play an all mage party and a two rogue, two mage party sometimes just to hear the banter. I'm sure Dorian, Vivienne and Solas are glorious together and I want to see what happens when I have Solas, Cole and Sera with me. Hopefully I don't die too hard!

Two mages arent a bad if they have a varied skill set. My ideal Inquisition party is Blackwall, Cole, then alternating between Solas and Dorian. From what we've seen so far spell wise who seems more like the primarily "defensive" or buffer mage?

You could build either Dorian or Solas defensively using the Spirit tree and Barrier.  Vivienne seems to have more personal defense since she's got the Knight Enchanter specialization.  We haven't seen much of Rift Mage or Necromancer yet, so it's hard to say which one will be a better buffer.

Personally, I like to go with the "best defense is a good offense" mage.  Enemy control via hexes, ice walls, CC, etc.

I'm going to be rolling with Sera as my main rogue and Solas, Dorian with my magequisitor. I usually have a 3 mage party and one rogue and alternate the lineup every so often. I don't think it will be redundant as long as they are specced complimentarily for the party. For example my inquisitor might be more about damage, Dorian will focus on crowd control, Solas might be more focused on Barrier and buffing. I might roll an all mage party because that would be crazy fun, even though it will suck to not open every door and chest without a rogue lol

There is no denying that however haxed Cone of cold was one of orgins best spells. But your right in than offensive mage can be there own defense. Thinking primal tree for my elf mage.

One of the spells we've seen Solas use in demos, Static Cage, is that Solas exclusive? It seems pretty good for crowd control.

Heh, I'm the exact opposite, I'm of the school of thought that goes "If you can hit it long enough, it'll fall down.". I'm more about having my character concentrate heavily on defense/buffing/healing whilst others deal damage.

Sweet deities, this. Something that really annoyed me about the opening acts of Origins is that if you don't roll a rogue then you miss out on loot because Daveth just didn't have a high enough lock picking ability, it really offended my hoarder sensibilities :(

This is why I'm always going to have one of each class in my party.  Or if not, I'm going to go back to the stupid zone with a balanced party composition.  I'm one of those people who downloads lock bash mods just so I can open chests early in Origins.  And I get twitchy in Zelda games when I see explodable rocks, but I don't have the stupid bomb bag.

Though right now, I think Team All the Feels (aka Team Weekes) might be my go-to party: Iron Bull, Solas, Cole, and archer Lavellan.

Are there any non-well known facts about Solas that would work in a video? If so, I'd like to hear them please.
