Did Sumalee's voice sound very monotone?

After properly hearing Sumalee in action, I'm not sure I will roll my Dalish!Quizzy with her. The voice is just...not quite there. Think I need to listen to Alix again.
Here's a female Qunari with Alix's voice from that E3 demo a while back.

Maybe Sumalee can work for a Warrior but Im just not seeing her voice as a rouge or mage

I think I might go with Alix's voice. Probably cause it just seems to to fit with my elf Quizzy.

Yes, much better. I envisioned something earthy, slightly deep. Alix really pulls it off, despite being the higher of the two voice options.
Don't get me wrong, Sumalee is really good. A bit flat at times imo, but brill for a blunt practical character, which my Dalish!Quizzy is not.

Interesting. I'm rethinking Sumalee's voice for my elf. I do like how rich her voice sounds but I don't want my quizzy to sound flat ![]()

My problem with Alix is she sounds EXACTLY the same as she did as Samantha Trynor. So all I can see when the Inquisitor talks is Samantha Traynor.

Another video of Alix's voice from the Skyhold demo:

I think I'm probably going to go with her for my elf and qunari Inquisitors. I really like how emotive she is.

Guess its different for everyone. I think for me it is because she was a secondary character in ME, one I never really spoke to. So the association isn't so bad. But I get where you are coming from. I get that with Iron Bull. I just keep hearing Vega ![]()

Huh I really liked Sumalee's voice but I could see how others might interpret it as flat. Keep in mind though, american accents are naturally flatter than english ones. I also think perhaps Sumalee was instructed to be more deep/masculine? with her voice than Alix perhaps, since her voice would be the default for dwarves and qunari. Rewatching the prologue, the voice shes using is quite low, so getting across extreme emotions while putting on a lower voice can get tricky, so people might have problems with that.
But I liked how authoritative and deep her voice was, and actually thought she conveyed emotion quite well, albeit in a more, stoic, trying-to-keep it all together way. Her natural way of speaking in an emotionless scene is low and direct, but in the scenes where she is asking questions, screaming/in pain or feeling guilty or concerned I think she pulls it off well in perhaps a slightly more subtle way, which is personally perfect for my elven inquisitor cause it suits her personality. Alix's more airy, feminine voice will definitely work well for my human inquisitor.

I agree with you both...even though I'm having second thoughts on using Sumalees voice,I probably will still go for her voice instead of alix's voice.

So I only skipped through a couple minutes of Part 1 of today's stream just to hear a bit of Sumalee's voice, and I have to say I really like it. The deep register, the smoothness of it, and the fact that the emotion in her voice is more subtle... I don't know how she would work for a sweet/charming type of character (I feel like maybe she'd come across as a little stiff?), but I love playing more stoic, direct women and I'll definitely be using her for most of my Inquisitors (though Alix will be perfect for the quirky human mage I have planned for playthrough 2).
Also, love hearing that Solas is the quietly confident type... I was actually thinking that would be the case so I'm glad it's true
I have to say, hearing how sweet he is, it'll be really hard to be rude to him, but I like romances that grow from something shaky. Plus, I'm trying to roleplay a specific type of character where being all nice and flirty from the get-go is just not her style, especially under the circumstances. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to her - loved Anders' 'don't threaten me, little girl' line in DA2, so, um, yeah...

I don't see the Spock thing at all.
He's way too friendly for that.
I love the way he says "I did nothing, the credit is yours" and "it seems you hold the key to our salvation". It seemed almost...teasing.

If we were going to compare to Star Trek I would say he is more of a Picard. No, that isn't a bald joke
I have my reasons but my inner Trekker might rear it's ugly head and bore you all to death. I can't do that to my fellow unicorns!

I find it interesting that GDL described him as "guarded". So far he's seemed very open. I wonder what sort of questions he'd be hesitant to answer.
Also, has his Skyhold area been confirmed yet?

Even though I didn't watch the Stream, because......no! (already spoilt myself too much
) I still plan to use Sumalee. I have no problem with voiced protags in RPG's. But it helps when I can choose any line at any time, for my personal role playing reasons.
Slight criticism incoming - I had a bit of a problem with Jo Wyatt playing FemHawke. She emoted quite well, for each of the different "personality" types. I prefer to choose lines that fit not only my characters "general" personality, but also lines that fit the moment (for said character). Simply put, even if I am playing a more sarcastic type character, it hardly means I would have them picking the sarcastic/snarky line every time (unless I am rolling a sociopath, perhaps). And there in lies the problem - for me, that is. Jo Wyatt emoted a bit too much, so I often felt my female characters sounded, ummm, somewhat deranged at times. I ended up enjoying more of my male Hawkes due to this reasoning, since I felt Boulton's different voices for the dialogue, was more "subtle".
Mind you, this really IS just my own personal preferences. And, I hardly know how Alix will sound throughout the whole of the game. Still, the little I know, Sumalee seems a better fit, for at least a few of my PC's and for my first Lavellan.
Good lord. Did I really need to write that all out? ![]()
BTW for the Trekkie stuff - Mr. Data, AFTER the emotion chip. lol! Or Lore, without the psychotic behavior...I hope!

I don't know, Sumalee did a pretty good job I think. I imagine the voice director told them to sound less emotional. Since the voice is intended for Dwarves and Qunari really.
