Well I'm glad I tried to get a tac-cam shot of a random cheese wheel (lolwut?) I found in the Emerald Graves. The camera got stuck so I switched to Cass to readjust... (Not a spoiler, I just always put pics in spoiler tags)

Haven't read much of this thread lately since I'm still dodging spoilers but I didn't think this was appropriate for the twitter thread. Love the game so far and I'm 20 hours in and have just left the Hinterlands. Had planned to romance Solas with my standoffish and reserved Lavellan rogue but I was taking things slowly and hadn't flirted with him until last night when Weekes' masterful writing gave me no other sensible option for the character I was playing. The dialog was just so natural and Solas' response was so in tune with the tentative early advances of a real relationship. Have to give Mr. Weekes a big thank you for his amazing writing.

Paraphrased(because I don't remember it perfectly, just the OMG moment because it was so perfect) dialog in spoiler below. It was very sweet.

Solas: (in response to a question about himself) "Studying magic takes work, just like it has taken you effort to be so fluid and graceful with your daggers and bow."

Elinan Lavellan: you think I'm graceful?

Solas: I certainly do. (And GDL put a lovely emphasis on the "I" in his voice acting).

I think my tough as nails Lavellan melted right there.

Man, I had a good laugh! I went over to Sera and started asking her how she felt about everyone. I get to Solas and she says something like, "I know you're into him. Bet he yells out 'elven pride' when you're doing it."

So after comparing notes with my roommates after we finished our first playthroughs we noticed a few things:

Watching Solas attempt to drink tea is highly entertaining.

Solas remarks in his first conversation that he wants to find the artifact used to create the Breach. But at this point we have no idea about Corypheus and the Orb or even how the Breach was created, making this a neat bit of foreshadowing for the post credits scene.

It turns out there was a reason why Solas' costume included a wolf jawbone necklace.

and wow, crazy ending... but, is that it? Is there never any closure for a romanced Lavellan? He said we would talk after it was all over, but was he lying? :< I'm so saaaad, she would have given up everything to go with him and well just be with him. His romance was the best, but ended so depressing. And all this stuff about the Vallaslins and elven culture in general is crazy. I really do hope we get a Witchhunt type DLC with him if that really is all that happens at the end. Also, very poopy that he disapears from the party. Q-Q Guess I'll use my bff Dorian.

I had to force myself to play a non-elven character to avoid re-doing his romance. it's almost as bad as trying to avoid romancing Alistair in Origins was for me. Blasted puppydog eyes and witty lines. D:

And I agree on the DLC. its a perfect set up to have some and it leaves us so many questions, even for people that did not romance Solas. I mean what exactly were these so called elven gods? Solas himself claims they may not be gods in certain conversations, but if he is hinting at the truth here and they are not gods then what are they?

 

Also I don't remember the dialogue exactly but doesn't he say something more vague then "we'll talk"? Like "it will be revealed after we defeat Corypheus(sp?) " or something similar. In which case I think its a cute way of there being a partial truth. Its a lie to the Inquisitor but a truth to the player as we ourselves know the epilogue scene but our characters do not. (unless its hinting at a DLC for him. -fingers crossed-)  But like I said, I don't remember the exact dialogue.

 

Edit: and and to answer your first question, yes. I'm 99% sure that's all there is for him at the ending and there is no true closure. Unless there's like "100% completion" hidden changes or something similar thrown in there.

I really really hope the next time he shows up it's with us playing our Inquisitor. I don't want a new game, with a new protag, hunting him down and killing him. Also considering in the Fade his greatest fear was "Dying Alone"... hmmm... I feel like... I just still don't know him. It's so unlike the other romances we've had so far I feel bitter.

No I definitely understand and agree. I rushed through the Temple of Mythal quest, excited to see his final romance scene. There weren't that many really and for lack of better words... I was starving lol. I felt like I was actually broke up with(i even have a rl boyfriend!) and it just sucks for that to be my first playthrough. But... at the same time... I think if I were to have a "canon" world state, it'd still be romancing him. He's still my favorite. I just hate how it went. I want more and I want closure. Also, I'd like to not have to murder him in the future if that can be avoided. At the very least that, of all things I'd like to avoid. I'm most worried of it becoming like Sebastian's romance, and basically being disregarded and forgotten.

Also anyone worried about the implications of him taking those souls from Flemeth if you chose to go into the Well of Sorrows? Since he'd have Mythal's soul and you'd be bound to serve Mythal...

Is it bad I'd rather Solas be evil and steal Flemeth's souls than him being possessed? I don't know anymore. The scene looked a bit more predatory on his end for me to think anything other than him taking her soul(s).

I wonder what the difference even is.

Hi guys! I'm back.

 

Since I'm in Europe, I didn't start playing till yesterday and I've been avoiding spoilers like the plague. I'm now about 6 hours in..

and in the Hinterlands. Woah this place is big, btw!

 

Solas is so damn sweet though. He's so humble and polite. I love that he says thank you a lot. It's a nice change from all the snarky, outspoken, overconfident LIs that I do tend to go for in games. xD I mean, Solas is confident but it's more quiet confidence, which is very attractive!

 

A few lines that stood out to me so far is when he says "the credit is all yours" in the first scene when he grabs your hand, I was totally squeeing. And when you close that first mini rift and he says well done! Yeahhhh he's impressed. ;D And then once you're in Haven and you have your first conversation, I found it totally endearing when he was talking about making friends with the spirits. I imagine he'd led a pretty lonely life and has needed to find friendship and solace in the fade. How interesting! My "Herald of Andraste" definitely finds him intriguing.

 

Also, I really like how flirting is not really creepy anymore. I was scared that my character would be too forward and out of character, like when romancing Garrus Vakarian (oh godddd, great romance, love Garrus to death but that initiation ><) but it's more subtle. You can sense the attraction and it feels less forced. For now. We'll see how it goes from here, lol.

I think the fact that he gets very angry about you drinking the well should be somewhat telling as to what he thinks about Flemeth.

Its hard to say who is in control of who there. And I'm sure that was Bioware's intent. Flemeth is an immensely powerful character- both in game, and for Dragon Age's marketing. I really doubt she's dead.

I don't think Solas is dead either though. Its likely whoever is possessing who will just be excised at some point. Or, if they are working together, we'll hunt down the answer as to why.

This is my crazy theory, but perhaps the elven pantheon were the "immortal elves" that the Dalish speak of? The Well of Sorrows or respective other temples bind individuals to the respective god allowing them to serve as vessels similar to what Flemmeth does.

Also, since Solas is Fen'Harrel I'm wondering if he gave Coryphaeus the orb on purpose just so he could get a little bit of vengeance for what Tevinter did to his people?

Right, so I spent about 40 hours wandering around before getting skyhold and I JUST got the first romance scene (though I did thoroughly spoil myself about Solas).

 

And just...wow. I actually blushed irl. It was, in a word, perfect.

 

Even recorded it and put it on youtube. 

 

 

I, um, yeah. And I took that one middle option in the conversation afterwards and I couldn't breathe for laughing. Sarcastic inquisitor is such a smartass.

If we had face to face talking instead of the pulled back ones, the game would have felt more personal. The way it is now, all the side quests felt not important and useless. It's bizarre how such a small thing like talking to an NPC face to face, instead of just watching them from afar, changes the feeling of the game and the quests themselves!

You didn't mess up his romance. The scene after the temple of Mythal is his 'committed romance' scene that triggers the achievement. The romance ends here no matter what you did so far in the game. Might be because this is the scene where more intimate feelings and contact are implied. I mean just look at how he looks at Lavellan during that scene.

 

edit: It hints that they had relations during the start of the last romance scene if you choose the "So... makeup kiss?" option. the dialogue goes something like this:

 

Lavellan: "you're just acting grim and fatalistic to get me in bed"

Solas: "I AM grim and fatalistic. Getting you in bed is just a pleasant benefit."

I completely agree with everyone on the cutscenes issue. I haven't done another romance yet (I'm starting the Cullen one next. I need something that is more cute and fluffy after the Solas one.) but even the amount of dialogue you have with him in the game seems lower than many characters. That might be because I was swooning over him from the very start and just used all of his quickly but I brought him literally everywhere and yet the other characters would have cutscenes after a big event and he would not, or when he did it seemed minor in comparison. It also seems like he's the character we get to know the least. Solas probably had the highest approval out of all my companions yet I was rolling in Iron Bull and Cassandra scenes instead.

Does it just show up at a certain point or do you need to do something special?
