I agree,I've always wanted a companion who is capable of seeing the "greyness" in the situation while also appreciating freedom.

INDEED! I always feel like the only mother ****** going, "Hold on, there's this other answer, it's not kill all these guys, kill all those guys, or walk away and let them all kill each other!" (Sidenote, I really loved that I got to actually take the route I wanted with the werewolves and Dalish in DAO!)

living isolated from civilization, a "walk" in the fade at the wrong moment can be the way Solas find out about the tears and the person that can close it. It would be a cute thing.

I really liked DA2 because the whole time I was getting so anxious about calming the mages & templars down that I ended up not taking any sides until the very end - I kept trying to pacify both up until the last moment!  Solas seems like a good middle man that my Hawke would certainly appreciate.  ^.^

Over the last few pages I've had to resist the urge to post something like that 5 or 6 times and just I couldn't do it anymore.

 

I hope at least occasionally my Inquisitor can hold her own in an intellectual discussion with Solas.  Having a brilliant companion is great but I hope he can see her as an equal and not a feeble-minded pretender.

I hoped Solas would be interesting, and my expectations have been hugely exceeded, I think I might be a bit gutted if he's not a LI.  If he's not I guess it will be Cullen,  I've always liked the character and always planned for him to be LI for my human inquisitor (warrior or rogue).  I can't see me RPing any character for IB or Varric.  I will possibly RP a male Inquisitor for Dorian.

 

I'm really curious as to how Solas will get on with the Dalish, as it seems he may not be very bothered about his elven identity.  Maybe this could cause some tension if RPing a 'devout' dalish inquisitor.  Or maybe he's more bothered when other races focus on the fact that he's elven.

Yeah I think he might see the Dalish as being a bit bigoted and stuck in their ways, but I don't think he'll make a point of it too much.

It's always a possibility, my favourite pet theory, especially after finding out he was born in a town. Is that he was named Solas, because he was his family's "Pride and Joy" so to speak.

 

well, names can mean lots of things. if it's not the name his parents gave him, i wonder if maybe it's a warning to himself to avoid becoming too prideful?

That will depend on his experiences,if he encountered a clan like Marethari's I doubt he'd have much of a problem with them,while on the other hand a clan like the one in TME will probably lead him to believe that all  Dalish are a bigoted bunch.He'll probably get along really well with my Dalish Inquisitor though...
