SpoilerI think they also trigger when you complete quests occasionally? I've had times where I complete quests and they start talking right after i turn them in. I'll have to switch it up more this play through romancing Sera with my Adaar. Although it's so hard not to take Solas everywhere with me.
I feel like some dislike eachother but I kept the same around that atleast in banter, it seems like they grew to like each other. Solas and Bull argue about the Qun quite a bit but eventually I noticed them warming up to each other, they even play "mental chess" with each other and Solas makes a comment about supporting Bull after his choice quest and becoming "Tal-Vashoth". Both Bull and Solas liked Cole and supported him though so I didn't notice much change there. Even if Bull thought Cole was weird haha. I wonder if it's something that you don't see unless you keep them around for lots of banter. I wish it would have happened during cutscenes more.
I really really want DLC like Mass Effect got. I am a little envious even, I want a game where we play the same Hero and get to continue on with the same people(mostly). I really don't feel like everything with my Inquisitor is over like I did with Hawke and the Warden. I'm so upset at the thought of a new game with a new Hero. I guess I'm just a little tired of it?
Considering the fact that Morrigan's story is still not over, and she's still so important and that's kind of the vibe I'm getting from Solas... aggh I don't even know this is all so frustrating.
I guess it's good that it affects me so deeply, for what it's worth. Mission accomplished writers.![]()
Might just be my game then, I delved into characters I thought were interesting and they all liked my inquisitor well enough to trigger events but I never completed all the stories, Was too sidetracked with the whole "Oh my god what happens next? i must know the plot!" feeling. It would be nice if we got a longer DLC like awakening, or even another game with the inquisitor. In comparison to the other heroes the inquisitor's story really never did end. Both Hawke and the warden had their story told, and they were given a solid epilogue. we find out so many details of what happens next in origins, and DA2 concludes with a brief explanation of how the group eventually split up and went their own paths. inquisition on the other hand does not give any of these, at least not yet. The inquisition still has some purpose still, I mean balance is going to need to be kept for a time and the companions don't say much beyond "I'm going to stick around for a while" about what happens next. Morrigan and Solas both leave to do maker knows what with their lives, there is no solid explanation about what happens next.
It feels to me like the threat is over and we're left with no real answers. Personally it doesn't give me a lot of satisfaction or a feeling that the journey is over like I get from the good rpg's and novels that I read. Even if I had picked a less heartbreaking romance as my first one I'm certain I'd still be just as unsatisfied. Its like this game was made answering all the old questions from other games but not answering the new ones it creates. I do hope this is because they're intending for our character's story to not be complete just yet and not because they want to set up for a new character. There's still a significant amount of time left in the Dragon Age if I'm remembering what was mentioned on a forum a year or two ago and our inquisitor has plenty of life left in them. The Inquisitor is still alive and still in the spotlight. They even give you plenty of options to mention you're attached to Skyhold, So it doesn't seem like we're going anywhere anytime soon or at least there's little indication of it for my character. (can we please have some sort of system to give money to spiffy it up? I'm rolling in money that I don't have much to do with, I'm sure i could afford a few more workers to put the place back to a grand state in a short period of time.)
I don't mean to be too critical, Inquisition is a great game but as it stands I'll get more value out of DA:O and DA:2 respectively. DA:2 was sloppy in places, rushed and the world was very repetitive but the faster paced combat, as opposed to more tactical combat, and depth the characters got to when romanced was worth the replay time. It felt like each romance is worth doing at least once, although sometimes I do repeat them on an Act II start save just to re-enjoy the story. As for Origins it's still, in my opinion, the best of the three. It has so many choices and details to explore, characters are extremely in depth and seem to interact with each other (and the mabari) more than both its predecessors. I'm not expecting any following game to live up to the story expectations of Origins, there was so much dialogue (several hours of companion banter alone!) and detail that it would be extremely costly and difficult to pull off again. However, I did have higher expectations for Inquisition than what I came out of it with. Inquisition doesn't quite have the same replay value, the story doesn't vary too greatly between characters from what I've seen so far, and the maps are so big but also spread out. Sure there's a few puzzles here and there to do but it feels like there's very little to do that doesn't feel repetitive and tedious. the game basically feels like "Go to a new area. Gather quests. Set up camps, Do similar quests to other areas. Kill a lot of things and close some rifts. Repeat." outside of the main storyline. There is more content in DA:I if you want to do everything, but the replay value doesn't feel as high as the other games. Maybe it's just the Solas romance being so bittersweet and short, but if his romance is at all a measure of the length I can expect the other ones to be I'm not sure if I'll replay to romance everyone. Dialogue options also only get so far. It's cool that new dialogue options are occasionally available depending on race/class and how influence levels were spent, but a lot of them seem to be redundant. Often I have the ability to ask a question OR have a party member say something and more often than not I want to party member to speak because I have no idea where my approval is with them for sure. xD
tl;dr: It feels like there is less replay value and closure to the story for Inquisition in comparison to DA:2 or Origins (in my opinion that is). Old questions get answered but lead to new questions which are not answered. Solas runs off and we only have the post-epilogue clip to hint at why (but it also leaves more questions than it answers) as opposed to a full DLC that Origins got (so far, this could change eventually). Or in DA2 Sebastian runs off, but we know why and what for. The Inquisitor has no real end to his/her story yet, it feels like we're just between battles at this point and we're in this calm before the next storm. Our character is also very prominent and if anything goes down anytime soon (and considering the events we've had in this area of Thedas in the past 10 years something is bound to go wrong) we'd probably be the first one to be called as our character didn't die or run off but rather is still in the spotlight. Granted Hawke can stay as viscount, But it seems like he/she eventually leaves.
Also Solas is adorable and needs to come back. And he needs to explain the story behind the paintings in his corner of Skyhold, as well as why he chose them. -nods-
