Gah! I loved Hughes. I sob like a baby every time he dies.

 

Call me a masochist, but I love that Solas's romance makes us feel so strongly. It's a sign of a really really well written character, and a point of pride, I think.

 

My favorite DA character list probably looks something like.. 1.Solas, 2. Fenris, 3.Alistair, 4.Zevran. At least as far as romanceables. I think Cullen will end up on the list too.

 

I like Sera, but I have a really hard time relating to her as my Lavellan. She doesn't approve of like anything I do. Because you have to take some kind of a stand, and she just doesn't like it. I think my mage Lavellan thinks Sera is all sorts of wishy washy, and needs to figure out what to do with herself. I really liked the banter between Sera and Solas where he gives her advice for how to give the Red Jennies a purpose. That they can do more than just cause a little chaos every now and then.

 

Sera feels like she wants a purpose, but she is too uncertain to pursue one. And it kinda puts her on the fence for me. I love her interactions with the others though.

I love that it makes us feel so strongly, but at the same time... DEM FEELS. D:

 

Yeah, I think that was the reason I disliked Sera so much until her last few talks. She just really repulsed my Lavallen with her lackadaisical attitude, and I couldn't bring myself to bring her anywhere for that reason. Which made me upset as I was actually looking forward to her immensely before the game launched. The last few talks gave more to her character that both I and my Lavellan could connect to, and in the end the two became friends and I was alright with her. But before that? Nuh-uh. Crythwen would have kicked her out if she wasn't worried that Sera would retaliate.

No whatever they once were they mean something else now. But she'll obsess over it, research into how the dalish found the markings and  debate whether to tell any one else.

We know she knows he has ties to the ruins of an ancient village (per letter from Leliana) so I guess she must be aware he's not what he seems, some kind of ancient being - how would she react to being told I am the Dread Wolf, or I carry Fen'Harel's spirit with me the same way Flemeth carried Mythal's?
Until she knows more she's going to assume he just lied about where he came from but that's going to make her evaluate everything he said and while she wont be able to figure out the truth she's going to be mighty suspicious of him. 

If we find out he's Fen'Harel in whatever form it's going to be difficult for her to process, she'll need time for that one. It's going to come down to 'I love you but can I trust you?'  

And finally, we don't really know specifics of Solas's plans or intentions (speculating on that is hella fun) but - what would your Lavellan do? Help him and go along with them no matter what they are? Try to strike them down to save the world if that's what it came to? Try to dissuade him? Etc

Duty comes first, it's why she stayed with the Inquisition when all she wanted was to go home. If she has to kill him to save the world she will but she'd take her own life not long after.

Heck yes I'm having Solas remove the Vallaslin. My character never wanted them to begin with, and then it turns out the thing they had to get stamped into the skin of their face is a "Property of" symbol. Sign me up for the De-Dalishfication please.

So tell me, for those of you who finished his romance/the game, here's a couple questions:

A lot of this is all speculation, because I haven't gotten there, and decided for sure yet.. But.. Here's what I'm planning on doing.

Eleri Lavellan will let him remove the vallaslin. Upon finding out that it is slave marking, she will want nothing to do with it. She's always been a proud Dalish, but never to the point of extremism. And if she ever returns to the Dalish, she might make sure everyone knows what it is.

 

I think she'd be surprised to learn that Solas is Fen'Harel. But not scared. Never scared. The gentle mage who taught her about the fade, who bared his heart to her despite everything would never be one to be feared. She would trust that she knows his heart, regardless of who he has been, or what he has been. And she would love him, and want to be with him anyway. She would probably assume that he has simply be in uthenera, and is an ancient elf. I think she would have a certain fondness for dread wolf motifs though, such as the statues. And she would never again use the Dalish phrases about him. Such as the blessing that the "Dread Wolf never find your path".

 

Eleri would find him. She would never stop looking for him, in either the fade or the physical world. And she would support him as best as she can.

 

Considering the fact that the Inquisitor has some sort of connection to a spirit that saved them, I don't think they would be very judgemental. Of course, that depends on the player. But in my headcanon, Eleri knows enough about spirits to recognize that one saved her. Whether it was Andraste or not is up for debate. But a spirit saved her. And if Solas shares his body with a spirit, she would not have any place to judge him for it. She loves him for him.

I like the video. He makes some great points about it. Seeing the changes in story, and the character development really endears them to you. I loved Hughes, even before he died. Then I was just heartbroken. But Full Metal Alchemist kinda just.. Punches you in the feels. All the time.

 

It's hard to relate to a character who doesn't care about much for awhile. Lavellan got thrown into a position of leadership, regardless of whether he/she already was in that sort of position. Since a mage Lavellan was the first of the clan, they would be used to being in charge in theory. My Lavellan was actually flirting with Sera at first, and they had kind of a love-hate thing going on. It seemed very shallow at first. Because Sera was like "You're pretty, but crazy. Absolutely nutters.", and Eleri's reaction was basically the same back at her.

 

I was kind of upset at first, because I loved Sera. She reminds me of characters I've played as before in tabletop rpgs. But she's so wishy washy! I just.. And she hates any choices that my Lavellan makes in a clear direction. I've had a hard time figuring out how I feel about her.

No problem! I'm keeping my eye on a good amount of them, there's quite a few unfilled prompts there for Solas and not all of them sexually driven. but I like this one because it's more plot driven than smutty. That, and well, someone is actually filling it.

I've done done the final final quest, but my reaction post-Well of Sorrows is...different:

First, I'm weirded out that he yells at you for drinking from the well, when he flat out says he doesn't trust Morrigan. He doesn't tell you not to do it, either. His sole objection is with killing the Sentinels.

 

Then the romance scene is gorgeous, from the atmosphere to the writing. I have to wonder, however, what his ulterior motive with wanting the Dalish markings off might be. Is it truly because they were used as slave markings, or is it because they have always been symbols of the elven gods, which he seems to take issue with? Whatever it was, my Lavellan refused to have them removed. She doesn't care what they meant thousands of years ago, because the meaning behind things can change. Her markings represent her commitment to being part of a whole, of protecting those she considers to be friend and clan. She did not enter into receiving them lightly- she does not necessarily embrace her Dalishness as much as she embraces the weight of assumed responsibility that they symbolize. 

 

So, yeah. I have a feeling she's going to take his disappearance relatively well, to be honest. After his outburst regarding Mythal and...everything, she's realized that he was never exactly who she thought he was. She respects what he does, and she really does love him, but a part of her held back from fully committing herself to him, partly because she has too many responsibilities elsewhere and because she knows, deep down, he will never give himself entirely to anyone else.

I am rolling a male Lavellan and am going for a great friendship with Solas.   I was able to call Solas "hahren" and be called "da'len" in return.  He also referred to me as "lethallin."  Especially knowing who he is, it is great

So have Bioware definitively said that each dragon age game will always have a different protagonist? Because I already like my inquisitor way more than my warden and my hawke and it feels like Inquisition was just a big setup. Like Mass Effect 1 was.

I agree. I never had any desire to be Hawke or the Warden again (despite LOVE, LOVE, LOVING them in all their incarnations, lol), but there are soooo many unanswered questions. I'd be happy to see the Inquisitor as the protagonist of the next game.

Rather sad honestly... Makes me wonder if Solas can influence our Lavallens to do the same. I made Cole a full spirit, btw, in case that has an effect.

I've always been against the idea of Hawke and/or the Warden having another game -- but maybe it might be because I romanced Solas, or maybe it might not be -- but I feel like there's too many loose ends. Especially with him. I really, really, REALLY want another game with the Inquisitor. I also feel like they've worked so hard and have developed so many things for the Inquisitor to have just one game. Idk. Never before have we had such an open ending. At the VERY least we will have a DLC. I'd prefer a sequel, though?

 

Also is it weird that I've been crying on and off all day? And I'm listening to the Love Theme and tearing up constantly. Sigh. So many unanswered things, I wish games and sequels and DLC could come out immediately.

Replaying the game is so strange. I'm re-doing the Solas romance from scratch and I can definitely notice a few things that make a lot more sense now. Even some of his reactions to events are more.. clear.

Mhm, which I love a good deal. I know people are probably sick to death of talks about the Star Child from ME3, but Solas is proof that twists like that can be done right if you're willing to back write into the story to leave a little trail of crumbs that only further solidifies the twist once you go back and notice them.

 Indeed. With the way it ends though I hope we get DLC or another game. Solas did claim the village he's from is to the north, and I heard some rumors they wanted to go north in the next game. -shrugs- maybe its our hint, kind of like Sandal and Bodan were for this game.

 

Speaking of which, do they make an appearance at all in a sidequest?

So, whether Solas is literally Fen'Harel, or possessed by him/it, and whether he's really a god or just some sort of uber ancient spirit/mage/whatever... am I the only one that loves how normal he is? It's very "angel unawares", in the sense that you wouldn't expect some powerful primordial being to act like that. Usually in fiction, if a god takes a human form, they're like... more human than human, more charismatic and beautiful than any human could ever hope to be. Solas is charming but it's a normal sort of charm, like if you met a nice guy at the park lol, and he's handsome but not in a sparkly Adonis kinda way. He's incredibly intelligent and wise, but... that's probably "an enjoyable side benefit" (as Solas would say) to being a.. whatever he is and living for centuries untold.

I just love it. He can be a total sweet talker, but he's also capable of putting his foot in his mouth. He can be incredibly tolerant... but also condescending. He's confident in his abilities but not conceited. Obviously he has his own reasons for not revealing his true nature to Lavellan, but I also think it says something else... I mean, he could totally wield that power like a weapon, brag about being above ~mere mortals~ but he never does...

I'm just saying, that's the kind of ancient elven trickster god I'd date lol.

Hmm I don't remember that, but there's definitely some concept art for Inquisition of Arlathan.
Maybe we'll go there for DLC?

Or was the Temple of Mytgal in Arlathan? I'm so confused, that's why I shouldn't rush through the game lol
