o.o Again i am hoping for the option to kill him; but for you romance folks, i get why you would want a conclusion to that...however it ends.

 

I'm sort of hoping for a similar thing for a choice in my own prefered romance.

Just rushed through and finished the main quest because I wanted more Solas romance.... In deep regret of that decision now.

The ending left me yelling a unintelligible string of words at my TV.

Okay, now that's absolutely bizarre:  I'm in active romance, exploring Crestwood, and my heroine's just fell in battle. Her name is Cora, btw. And just as she fell, Solas cried something that sounded suspiciously like "No! Cora!" That was an elven word, wasn't it?

Yeah I wasn't going to do it at first but then I thought well we did it in DA2...but I got to remember this game is far more different than the last game and anything you do or say will effect the game....oops.

Very much so. Believe me, it's dreadfully hard to see a button click prompt and IGNORE IT. LOL

 

But I'm trying hard to straight-up roleplay this time, too. Which means I gotta stop trying to meta-game so much. So, in a WWMLD (What Would My Lavellan Do?) moment, I knew she'd never full-up desecrate the graves of her ancestors, so she didn't. Didn't mean nicking from above-ground plant pots was off-limits, though. You can only ask for so much self-control from a rogue. 

 

It's led to some interesting moments, though. Like on this one Dalish quest in the Exalted Plains, a loved one was found dead after trying to do something stupid. And I told the next of kin that the person died trying to do something brave. Solas slightly disapproved. And it was tempting to reload and try the other options because OMG SOLAS DISAPPROVED THIS CANNOT STAND, but then I was like, "You know what, Solas? I know you value being bluntly and brutally honest - however IRONIC in a METAGAME SENSE that is, dear sir - but I am NOT telling this grieving, shocked individual that their loved one died via Darwin Award by being an idiot. That's just mean. "

Yeah, I still don't think Solas actually helped Corypheus as much as he didn't/couldn't do anything to stop him from taking the orb.

 

As for the other point, do Bioware games ever really have a conclusion for any romance? Or is it just a "content in the moment" by the lead's side at the end of a game?

Which we don't even get for Solas. The only other LI I can think that was absent from the main character's side at the end of a game was Morrigan.

Honestly to me he's as guilty of the detonation at the Conclave as Cory.

Well, no matter his intentions Solas is partially responsible for all the death and distruction Coriphenus caused with the orb, but I would say it's a bit harsh to say he's as guilty as Coriphenus. That's like saying Hawke is just as responsible for what Anders did if s/he helped grocery shop for some bombing materials.

Either way my Ithilia Lavellan is going freak when she finds out (she better find out, preferabley in a DLC). All the things Solas kept from her. Ugh, it makes me feel sad/angry just thinking about it.

I think I posted this in the other Solas spoiler thread, but my theory:

My speculation is that Solas/Fen'Heral sealed away the other elven gods, perhaps with the intention of protecting mortals from the coming clash between the two groups of gods. We know from the legends that the two groups were nearing war with one another, which is when Fen'Heral tricked both sides into remaining on their 'side' of the world. It is also quite likely that the elven gods might have fostered some of the corruption in the old elven rule, such as the rigid caste system and slavery. If Fen'Heral is the god of rebellion, it would make sense that he eventually wanted to break the system. 

 

But by trapping the gods on one side and the Forgotten Ones on the other, Fen'Heral has been in the middle. Over time, perhaps he's grown to regret the decision. His fear says that he is afraid of dying alone. His only peers would be the very people that he sealed away. Elven society also collapsed in upon itself without the 'protection' of the other elven gods.

 

To Solas, it might seem very much like he made a mistake. He betrayed 'his people', and he's possibly forever alone. And what he did didn't even help the elves, at least from his perspective. They are now mortal, and their society is effectively in ruins. 

 

Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.

Solas: I know.

Cole: But you could let them go.

Solas: I know that as well.

Cole: You didn't do it to be right. You did it to save them.

Inquisitor: Solas, what is Cole talking about?

Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything.

Cole: You weren't wrong, though.

Solas: Thank you, Cole.

 

Then there is also this conversation after the break up:

 

Cole: He hurts, an old pain from before when everything sang the same
You're real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't
They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them... (gasp) Where did it go?

 

This makes me think that the elven gods are the ones sleeping in the mirror. But to wake them would be a bad thing, and its very possible mortals would be the ones who would most suffer if all of a sudden the elven gods [and forgotten ones] were unleashed. If he has a connection and sympathy to a mortal, then his decision to unleash them becomes extremely complicated. 

 

'It changes everything but it can't', to me, seems to mean that although Solas is guilty about his plans, he still plans to go through with them. Which will likely play into Sandal's prophecy of all magic returning. And everything else that has been sealed away. 

 

 

This is only my random speculation though, not anything I would say 'this is what is happening fullstop'. Something to muse over, though! 

 

Well, well, well.......ME LIKE. Dragon Age 4, if it's anything like this, will be awesome. And I say this as a player who loves the Chantry and the Andrastian mythos more than the Elven Pantheon.

 

Solas is made all the better by this speculation.

Also, I love it that as powerful as Solas may be, the Fade still knows his deepest secrets and feelings.

Oh it's all just speculation and personal opinions. Although, I think did tell the Inquisition the source of the power was an ancient elven orb artifact, and that he had to get it back - perhaps the only way to negate said power. It's not clear if he even knew who the foe was other than that was the guy that took the orb. Perhaps he could have contacted spirits in the fade to probe for more answers but then Cole could be held responsible for the same. (I honestly think Cole is the ultimate lie detector which would make it hard for anyone in the Inquisition to have secrets.) Again, this is just my take. Within the next couple of months, I fully expect Witch Hunt DLC will be modded into Wolf Hunt, with Morrigan replaced by Solas, and the choice to either stab him or join him through the eluvian. So everyone can have the ending they want.

In-universe, would be funny to know. Out-of-universe, I think I saw Patrick tweet about how he hates tea, so that was a bit of a self-projection on his part.   I think he also then tried to legitimize it by saying tea has caffeine and makes it harder to sleep/enter the Fade, etc.

Hey guys, so I haven't played the Inquisition yet, and sadly won't be able to for quite a while, but obviously I spoiled myself silly when it comes to Solas and I have a question for those who completed the game.

That whole scene between Solas and Flemeth... what exactly happened there and who possessed/took the essence from who? I've seen the video and it looks like it was Solas who did that but I'd love to hear some opinions from people who actually played the game. I like Flemeth but I really hope she didn't possess him and that Solas is still... erm... Solas.

 

I'm trying to reassure myself that it's a complete waste to introduce a character like him only to reduce him to a new vessel for Flemeth at the end of the game, and that BioWare didn't do that. I have more thoughts on the matter but I obviously still don't know a lot of things so yeah.

But, I strongly doubt that either of them are 'gone' forever.

There's also the Inquisition feature in the Keep that hasn't been revealed yet, as well as the fact they spent resources to make the romance keep tiles, though that might not be the strongest argument.
I just really don't want to play as another protagonist and see Solas mention Lavellan. I want to play as Lavellan and reunite with him. And my best friend romanced Dorian and he also thinks there will be/should be a second Inquisition game, so it's not just a Solasmancer thing.

I looked at it like "what if that was one of the clan killed?" and figured I'd probably have done the same thing he did. 'sides. those mages would probably get themselves killed soon anyways, I had no qualms with it being a little premature so they don't cause more trouble.

Josephine made it sound like the inquisition would have more to do after the breach was sealed in one of the early conversations, so its likely that after Corypheus was killed we'd still have things to do. Hell, we're sitting in Skyhold with an army and not a lot to do other then help maintain balance. If anything goes down We're probalby going to be the first ones called, or the first ones to march in if we view it as threatening enough.

I'm glad I am not the only one that feels like the Inquisitor should be the protag in the next DA, assuming all these loose ends aren't tied up in an expansion or DLC. It just felt so weird, the way it ended.

First time posting in the Solas topic~

 

I went into DA:I intending to romance Cullen (and I will, later) but totally fell for Solas. I didn't think I'd like him, but I love his views on the fade/magic/stuff and his accent is so.. wonderful.  

 

Spoilers rarely ruin things for me, so I watched the romance on YouTube and omg. ;__; The feels! I had to goto bed early cause I got depressed, but now I'm better. 

 

Someone said they have a headcanon that he appears in her dreams, and I'd like to think he does too. Or that she tries to learn how to navigate the Fade while in dreams, hoping to find him.

 

I know the game has only been out a week, but I really hope they make some story DLC with him. ;-;

I managed to run home at lunch and grab this. I've marked some landmarks to help show where it is in relation to the Dalish camp and the camp you start the whole area at, as well as pointing to the place where you can cross/hop the river rocks and get there. Trust me, there is no other point along that path you can do so (unless there's a back entrance; I haven't explored the whole map yet)... almost tore my hair out trying to find a way to get back there.

*slams fist on desk* THAT'S BRILLIANT! That's the next game right there! It makes so much sense, it never crossed my mind that Sandals prophecy would connect so well with what Solas painted as a beautiful picture on how Thedas could be. Oh my god how wonderful would that be if that was what happened in an expansion or the next DA. You know.. as someone who loves elven lore, I feel kind of smug that it's such an important factor, and that it seems like it's going to continue to be like that in the DA universe, lucky me
