Welp, I think I know what my next playthrough is going to be, then.

How does the whole thing play out if romanced? If it goes how I think it goes, Solas may oust Blackwall as this game's tragic romance. 

 

I know this is obvious given where we are but... I loved it. I'm having a hard time not going back to it honestly while I wait for my guide to arrive so I can start my completionist playthrough.

He has less scenes than the others, but he's actually rather sweet and talking with him as an elf truly makes him shine. However...  Let's just say many tissues are sacrificed daily as more and more finish his romance. However, I definitely say it's worth a shot. I don't regret it for a second.

I've only played around 5 hours of the game, but Solas quickly became one of my favorite DA characters, just from dialogue with him.

The scene where Solas holds your hand and helps you close the rift happened and I saw his face...and his eyes...and I was in love. Tragically so...

Haven't even seen it yet...but it could easily take the cake as the most interesting romance in DA at this point I reckon.

Both the Cullen and the Solas romances swept me off my feet. It's why I'm currently writing 100 miles an hour Inspiration like this only happens to me with Bioware games.

I've only played around 5 hours of the game, but Solas quickly became one of my favorite DA characters, just from dialogue with him. 

He sneaks up on you and when you get to Skyhold you are hooked

Alright, here are the dialogues I promised!

I put these here because I love the fact that he's always hinting that he knows something, but he always says it's a tale he's heard though it clearly doesn't sound like it, they way they're worded!

 

These are from the Temple of Mythal:

 

Morrigan: I believe we are in the presence of the Elven Goddess Andruil, Lady of the Hunt. 
Solas: Or a Goddess of Sacrifice, according to some. 
Morrigan: Truly? I wonder if that's why Andruil's patron animal is the hare. 'Tis said the Dalish invoke her before a chase. Especially if they happen to be stalking humans.
Inquisitor: My clan avoided human settlements, never mind raiding them.
Morrigan: A sound tactic. If one has room to maneuver out of harm's way. Other Dalish clans do not keep so scrupulously hidden.

 

Morrigan: Falon'din. Overseer of funerals and guide to the Elven dead. I have heard the Dalish invoke him on their deathbed, or before quests from which they expect no return.

Inquisitor: My clans hunters asked for his blessing when they fought bandits. Our Keeper taught them the prayers. 
Solas: I do not believe they sing songs about Falon'din's vanity. 
Inquisitor: Do you know any legends?
Solas: It is said Falon'din's appetite for adulation was so great, he began wars to amass more worshippers. The blood of those who wouldn't bow low filled lakes as wide as oceans. Mythal rallied the gods, once the shadow of Falon'din's hunter stretched across her own people. It was almost too late. Falon'din only surrendered when his bretheren bloodied him in his own temple. 
Inquisitor: My clan never told a story like that about Falon'din.
Solas: The further the Dalish spread, the further their stories branch and grow. Never mistake them for arbiters of "true" Elvhen culture.

 

If you drink from the well:

 

Solas: I begged you not to drink from the Well. Why could you not have listened?
Inquisitor: Solas...
Solas: You gave yourself into the service of ancient elven god!
Inquisitor: What does that mean, exactly? 

Solas: You are Mythal's creature now. Everything you do, whether you know it or not, will be for her. You have given up a part of yourself.

Inquistior: You don't even believe in the ancient elven gods!
Solas: I don't believe they were gods, no, but I believe they existed! Something existed to start the legends. If not gods, then mages, or spirits, or something we've never seen. And you are bound to one of them now. I suppose it is better you have the power than Corypheus, which leads to the next logical question... What will you do with the power of the Well once Corypheus is dead?

Inquisitor: I'm not arrogant enough to think it's my decision alone. Whatever happens, we'll do it together. 

Solas: You think yo share your power, to avoid the temptation to misuse it. A noble sentiment... But, ultimately, a mistake.

Inquisitor: Why?
Solas: Because while one selfless woman may walk away from the lure of power's corruption... No group has ever done so.
Insuisitor: I trust my friends.
Solas: I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory.
Inquisitor: Why is this so important to you?
Solas: You have not been what I expected, Inquisitor. You have... Impressed me. You must not let false modesty allow you to pass your power to someone else. There are few regrets sharper than watching fools squander what you sacrificed to achieve. 

 

Alternate branch after "You are Mythal's creature"

 

Inquisitor: I have not become Mythal's slave.

Solas: Not yet, but if you remove the layer of nostalgia from stories of the elven gods, you might see the danger. They were arrogant and fickle. They warred amongst themselves. They had feuds, vendettas. And you are bound to one of them now.

 

I shared part of that already, but I figured I'd add in the rest to bind it together and show how he continues to hint at his past without truly saying a word on it.

 

Now, to party banter:

Cole: A war in the Fade, waged with human hate. (Shudders.) I should never want to see that.

Solas: It would be a terrible thing.

Cole: It was wrong to hide it in a child. It hurt her.

Cassandra: What are you two talking about?

Solas: It will make little sense unless one has spent more time in the Fade.

Cole: It was a game, but more than a game. It meant he would get a family. 

Solas: Competition brings passion, Cole, and passion lets people attach import to trivial things.

Cole: Why didn't they help at the end? 

Solas: People wish to accomplish the truly great things on their own.

Cole: They didn't give the boy what he wanted.

Solas: They did. The boy got a family.

Cole: They gave him a new one. He wanted his old one. I would have done it better. 

Solas: The wise must sometimes give the people what they need, not what they want.

Cole: It sees him ready to jump. Pain pounding, pulsing, life of frustration can finally fall, to freeze.

Solas: Ah, yes.

Cole: It holds him high, shows the hole. Where everything falls without him. He never needs to leave. He matters here.

Solas: That is one interpretation, yes.

Cole: You think it is different.

Solas: I think he fell, and it held him as he died, leaving him with images that told him his life was worthwhile.

Cole: That's much sadder. But yes. Calm, comfort, as the cold takes him away.

The softer side of Solas. He's especially sweet towards Cole and it makes my heart melt. 

 

Cole: I'm sorry about your friend, Solas.

Solas: Thank you, Cole.

Cole: I didn't know there were spirits of wisdom.

Solas: There are few. Spirits form as a reflection of this world and its passions. We will never lack for spirits of rage, or hunger, or desire. The world gives them plenty to mirror. The gentler spirits are far more rare. We can ill afford the loss of even one spirit of wisdom, or faith... Or compassion.

Cole: I will try not to die.

Solas: Do that, please.

On the Vallaslin: 

Cassandra: I admit, I know little of their meaning but I did not think it was possible to remove Dalish tattoos.

Solas: Most Dalish would agree with you--- and see little value in doing so. 

Cassandra: Then how---?

Solas: It was done in a... Private moment. I would rather not discuss it.

Cassandra: Of course. I should not have asked.

 

And more will come later, I'm sure! I'm definitely enjoying finding the different banters between the party members.

Glad I found this, the ending of this game kept me awake all night! I am replaying now, but after my second playthrough I intend to write so much fanfic. It has to happen.

I wasn't expecting to love Solas at all, let alone as much as I do. He suckered me in almost instantly.

Did I make a mistake somewhere with Solas' romance?

next main story quest for me would be the one where I have to attack Cory in the wilds (Can't remember the name right now), and I only had very few scenes with Solas so far. Did I miss something? I helped his freind from the fade, too, is there another mission for him? I'm worried because I haven't seen the actual "start romance" answer anywhere yet, as far as I remember

He really loves her, and you can see the heartbreak in his face during the breakup.  I hope they take the romance somewhere in the future (as in, near future!).  I just... wow... when I picked his romance I had no idea my character would be romancing a god.  That has to go somewhere, come on   .

I was puzzled by something and I hoped you might be able to answer this for me. When you choose to change yourself, I only got remarks from Solas where he warned me of another person as a potential choice.

 

Then when I talk to him after he scolds me for not heeding his warnings . Did I miss something? I did all the dialogue with the NPC companion and clicked on statues and so on, but i had no warning from him and not at the place where you can change either.

 

Did I do something wrong?

 

Also, if someone can show me how to make spoiler boxes, that would be nice.

 

I'm glad I romanced him in my first playthrough, like I was with Anders and Alistair . Those LI just makes the endings so much more awesome/horrible.

I'm glad I romanced him in my first playthrough, like I was with Anders and Alistair . Those LI just makes the endings so much more awesome/horrible.

 

Just like Solas was my first DA: I romance, Anders was my first DA2 romance.  And I went into both games blind to the ending.
