Hello everyone.

 

I romanced Solas, finished the game a couple days ago, and I'm inconsolable. But I will throw myself off this cliff over and over.

 

Also: I read somewhere in the last couple days that they only made Solas a romance option late in production after a year extension. I'm really glad they did, because playing the game as a Dalish and romancing him adds a huge dimension to the story that appeals to my love of melancholy and angst.

Just like leaving my beloved Hawke in the Fade because my Inquisitor felt that the Wardens needed sane leadership to pick up the pieces. Hawke versus a romanced Alistair was the worst choice in the whole game tbh. And the Solas romance broke the rest of my heart in the best way.

Replaying In Your Heart Shall Burn. I love that Solas provides the motivation for her to accept leadership of the Inquisition in order to extend the illusion of people's belief in her a little longer. Also that Lavellas leads the Inquisition to Skyhold because he's a Fade scout and she's a Dalish scout.

on why he didn't tell her his role in opening the Breach sooner, at least after he knows he can trust her. It's true to his character but that's not going to get him out of it.

Dammit, Solas, what are you planning to do. I was thinking about why he gave Corypheus his orb, and I hope we don't find out that they were associates or Corypheus was his lieutenant or something. I think Corypheus says that he went to assault the Golden City on someone else's orders, in order to throw down the old gods.

I took it to be an affectionate "we'll meet later".

There is probably an answer somewhere in the thread, but I'll ask anyway. What triggers the third Solasquest; What Lies Dormant? I'm starting to think that that quest is a myth. I've got 17 or 18 artifacts activated, but have no idea if that is related. Done all the shards too as I'm sort of procrastinating before Temple of Mythal. I can't do it!

I'm planning my second playthrough right now and I'm finding it impossible to dive into any of the other romances. I guess it's Solas for life...

 

Thank you all for being here and easing the pain. We're in this together and together we can make it until this is resolved!

 

Oh man I'm just working on my second play through now. I'm still distressed over the ending from my first one but tempted to try out another romance (Blackwall or Cullen) but I don't think anything can really top Solas. There should be a Solas t-shirt on the bioware store! I'm a sucker for punishment, a constant reminder of the heart ache would be awesome.

I just watched that Cole/Solas banter y'all posted and I'm in fresh tears. I can't handle it.

 

I'm freaking out because obviously what Cole was saying means that

the other elven gods are asleep on the other side of an elluvian that Solas couldn't unlock. He wanted to activate the orb, because it was the key. And the key is now gone as surely as the well of sorrows is gone as a key to THAT elluvian.

Also obviously that dialogue won't trigger if you didn't romance Solas. So... kinda confirms my belief that Solas romance is the most relevant to the game. XD

Solas was imposible not to fall for. I was fascinated at first, but the long cutscene before Skyhold, with his catwalk gait and mood lighting, had me completely hooked.

 

I don't think any of us were prepared for falling head over heels for him. e-e and yes @dragonette, everyone was commenting on how feline he looked when he ah, emulated a more canine animal, hah. I adore his necklace and was kind of sad we weren't able to give him a gift like I heard you could with other romances. 

I think I would have died if he had given her his wolf jaw necklace.... WHICH I HAVE NOW ADDED TO MY HEADCANON THAT HE DOES.

 

My Lavellan would've worn the Fade out of that necklace I should reach into my spare animal bits hoard and fashion one for myself...

If I interpret everything right, he had Flemeth/Mythal believing he was coming to her as friend, and then he killed her. Right? So I'm starting to think everything he did and said with my poor heartbroken Inquisitor, he could have been doing as a manipulation as well. I just don't understand how he could truly care about her just to break her heart so cruelly. I want to believe there's a future for them, but I'm inclined to believe the whole thing was a lie.

If he wanted to manipulate you, he could have done a ton of real scummy things while he had the chance, but he never did. It hurt him just as much as it hurt Lavellan, but that's only my opinion on it. Can't fake that sad face  Not to mention all of the things Cole can say. He's definitely hurting.

Cullen has the hots for you already anyways, so picking up a romance with him is simple if you break up with Solas in his final cutscene. At least, that's how it felt...but I'd been flirting with him here and there. #slaponthewrist

I believe he really does love her but he leaves to complete his mission (whatever that is, we don't have a clear picture yet). He seems truly geniune when he removes the inquisitor's tattoos he even says he wants a way to show her how much he cares. I think all of that is sincere. Even when Flemeth dies he says it is all his fault and seems upset by it. But he says the people need him so I conclude everything he does is with the big picture in mind not his own personal feelings/desires.

 

But where I am confused is when he breaks it off he says he is doing it to not distract the inquisitor from her duties. But all of the other hints seem to point at Solas being the one who can't commit as he still needs to complete his main objective and has nothing to do with the inquisitor. I think he always intended to end the relationship though and dragged it out as long as he could before he had to end it. The balcony scene when they kiss in the real world he is going to leave and says it would be kinder in the long run to end it then...

It's not really clear what's going on in the final scene and I think BW intended it that way. There's at least three ways it could be interpreted haha.

 

It's very clear that he truly cared for Lavellan. In fact it's because he cares for her that he has to leave her.
