Textwall ahead, please feel free to skip, I understand if you can't be bothered 
So I've had a chance now to properly go over the new info we got on Solas and pick it apart with a finetooth comb/speculate to my heart's content, now that the initial omgcantthinkstraight excitement has worn off.
Character blurb & interview:
- Around what age did Solas leave his small village to go and live in the wildnerness?
- Did an experience almost being given up to or caught by the templars prompt this, or did he simply leave in order to be cautious and avoid that happening?
- I imagine he supports mage freedom and not the Circle system, and wouldn't like decisions that favored templars
- Did he have family? Is he still in touch with them? Did he have siblings?
- Still chuffed that the people who were predicting Solas to be a hermit type that lived alone in the wilds were correct!
- He's clearly a very skilled mage - mastering your magic without help or guidance from tutors is no mean feat (am I right in thinking we know that from Malcom Hawke?). His profile and interview didn't seem to labor that point tho as they did a bit with Dorian, which is interesting. We know Dorian is a lot more showy, cocky and liable to unleash his power. Solas is the quietly confident type
- I wonder how he came to begin exploring the Fade. Was he always fascinated with it as a youngster, or is it a connection he developed once he came into his power as a mage?
- He sounds selfless and brave, even self-sacrificing. I think the fact that he won't stand idly by while the Breach sht goes down and voluntarily joins speaks of a noble streak. Despite his interest in his Fade pursuits and preferences to be left alone, he obviously cares about other people and causes other than his own, bigger than himself. It's not just his freedom he puts at risk by joining the Inq - it's his life as well
- We're told he comes to join us voluntarily - I wonder if we will have the chance to turn him away
- PW insists he's pretty straightforward, honestly (!) and just your average elven apostate and I'm still not sure in that regard xD But don't worry, if he is as PW says I won't be disappointed that there isn't some big surprise reveal that shows he's a lot more than what he said or something. He sounds like a very interesting and likeable character and I'm happy with him just as is!
- He seems to know how to fly under the radar and not be an Obvious Mage - unlike every other mage in Kirkwall, lmao
- I'm really enjoying the contrasts between Viv and Solas (fancy, high society, human, well-dressed Circle mage that cares about power and politicking vs scruffy little elven hedgemage who would rather be a hermit than be in the Circle, who doesn't care about power [political or magical] and is instead interested in the academic/historical) and Dorian and Solas (flashy, showy, cocky vs plain, reserved/introverted & quietly confident). Dorian and Solas are both open-minded it seems (Dorian to Tevinter magics that other societies would think distasteful). They are also both very intelligent men, but it's different kinds of intelligence. Dorian is smart, probably too smart for his own good, with a wit as sharp as a blade. Solas is more your cerebral intellectual type, who has academic, scholarly pursuits. And the difference in Viv/Dorian's sass and Solas's you won't know you've been insulted til half an hour later
- Can't wait to see his Rift Mage spec/Fade powers in action, and to hear the things he'll tell us about the Fade from a lore and story perspective
- I wonder if Solas has anything to do with or say about somniari, Ancient Elves, ancient dreamers, entities of the same nature as Felassan/his master etc. In all his wanderings of the Fade you'd think perhaps he may have come across something of note
- I hope we see Solas doing his sleeping thing if we take him to an ancient place where the Veil is thin!
- Both DA:O and DA2 have Fade sections; will def be taking Solas along for the undoubted Fade sections we'll have in DA3
- "If you go into a realm that by its very nature reflects the thoughts and fears of living people, and if all you’re ever taught in the Chantry is that the Fade is this terrible place that wants to kill or possess you, then when you get there, of course it’s like that." Sounds like because of this Solas may have a bone to pick (in a discursive manner, of course) with the Chantry and certain Chantry institutions/ideologies. I'd say we're due a paradigm shift on what we know on the Fade - not an Anders style paradigm shift tho of course
- I wonder if he can call on his spirit friends to heal, or to help in battle
- I BET HIS DELIGHTED SMILE IS SUPER CUTE OMG i hope he scrunches his nose when he does it AH i hope we get to see him light up over something with scholarly interest
- if he considers Cole a brilliant unimaginable light i think i will cry
- if anyone tries to interfere with Solas's freedom I'm afraid we are gonna have a majooor problem
- I wonder what Cullen's opinions on our scruffy hedgemage and his Fadetripping are
- "It’ll be interesting to see who thinks he’s fascinating and who thinks he’s out of his ever-Fade-loving mind" We in the Solas thread know that he is the best kind of mad scientist 
- I hope Viv can come around to Solas and see his worth etc as the game progresses. I'm sure this is the case, BW are always good at char development and progression

- I'm so, so happy that Cole has a friend. A friend is what he needs most. Not only a friend but someone with some answers as to the nature of his existence. If recruiting Solas is optional, not recruiting him but recruiting Cole is ttly mean and could have a lasting impact on Cole :C
- I'm very interested to see what issues make Solas react with heat/what manages to get a rise out of him (aside from his obvious passion for his Fade exploration). Not much I expect but some things
- Wonder how his experience/identity as an elf contrasts Sera's and what his opinions of the elf rebellion and such are
- Wonder how he adapts to suddenly being surrounded by a colorful cast of diverse people
Tweets:
- He's met Dalish in his travels. I wonder what he thought of them. I expect he can at least relate to them on some level as they too are nomadic and live in the wildnerness, in part to avoid their mages being captured, taken and denied their freedom by templars. Perhaps he might have spent some time with them - he's described as being "mostly" self-taught, perhaps he studied under one of their Keepers for a short time.
- I'm interested to see how Solas interacts with a Dalish PC and how his previous experience with them will influence that interaction.
- Dalish, afaik, consider all demons and spirits to be spirits, and all spirits to be dangerous. Solas isn't stupid, and is aware of the dangers, but he does seem to be more open-minded towards the Beyond and it's creatures than the Dalish do
- I imagine that the Dalish, who are enamoured with recovering the lost lore and knowledge of their past and preserving what they do have, have been or would be quite interested in what he's found with regards to elven history. He's probably 'slept' in ancient elven ruins before, no? If I remember right, didn't concept art imply that we might be going to the ruins of Arlathan? I imagine Solas would have a lot to say in terms of histories and lore in places like those.
- I wonder if one of the "tricks" PWeekes refers to is summoning spirits. There might be a nice symmetry if Dorian can 'summon' the dead [quotes cause that isn't really how it works in Thedas] and Solas can summon spirirts
