Solas describing cognitive dissonance made the psychology major nerd in me happy. That chess game is so cute. And I'm glad Solas doesn't celebrate violence.

Ditto. I think his sort of.. self-assured intelligence is very attractive.

I like how he qualified the non-violence thing with "unless it's personal". Makes me think of his spirit friend and burning the crap out of the people who tortured it.

I wonder if the reason why the wolf looks almost like a dragon is because it is supposed to represent Solas AND Flemeth.

I still feel as though the sword has something to do with one of the Fen'Heral legends, where he promised each side of gods a blade that would let them destroy the other side. Maybe there actually is some sort of blade functioning as a binding somewhere?

So for the longest time I've been trying to figure out what the hell that amulet is that he's wearing.  I figured it was a foot of some kind of brownie or something.  Then I read somewhere that it is a wolf jawbone!

Okay, now I really believe that Solas is the elf apostate Solas who stumbled upon the spirit of Fen'Harel just as the young Flemeth stumbled across the spirit of Mythal.  What did Flemeth give Hawke to carry to Marethari?  An amulet, which summoned her.  When questioned, Marethari says it is because of a promise that still has to be kept.  I figured that Marethari is bound to Mythal just like Abelas, but I don't think she wears Mythal's vallaslin, does she?

 

Also, the amulet that changes Cole.  Amulets are important to spirit mages in Thedas, it seems.

 

In any case, I don't believe that Solas is an ancient elf rishing from thousands of years of uthenara, because Leliana says that his village has only been ruined for a few centuries, not thousands of years.  I believe that that much of Solas' story is true.  He was born a "city" elf apostate who had a talent for Fade magic, and somehow became the earthly bearer of Fen'Harel, either by choice or not.  Was the mortal Flemeth given a choice?

Thanks a lot for posting the banter vid. I too have the banter bug and thus missed out on so much content. But it's really nice to see the community as a whole and the Solavellans in particular posting what others might have missed.

I played 80 hours and heard hardly any banter, I feel, especially after listening to that whole video and some others. I wonder if DanaDuchy managed to extract the sound files somehow. How could you get all those banters recorded so fast otherwise?

I had such a quiet time in mine as well. Woe. Hope they fix it soon. I've been avoiding listening to the banter vids because I want to experience it in game first. Adds to the replay value.

 

I know I said this here a lot before the game came out but, I loves you guys. I've been reading around the forum a bit, particularly regarding other romances and it makes me happy I started here. We got crushed and we didn't even get to see any butt cheeks. Yet this thread is full of loves and AWESOME NERDING OUT ON THEORIES. I can't believe the character I started out being least interested in when all this began, is the one that turned out perfect for me.

*gasp* Oh my god he's gonna need Lavellan to open an eluvian so he can go through with his plan!!! So we're absolutely going to see him again from a complete and only story perspective. No I'm not desperate at all I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT  (Kidding aside, that does seem rather suspicious, I wonder how in the world he's going to find a way to carry out his plan though, that little bit alone makes me feel like we definitely haven't seen the last of him. Argh there's so much unanswered! I really hope they aren't finished with creating more content for Inquisition yet.)

If you're the other mage and you play a knight enchanter, you can roll a full mage party with no problem. Seriously, I wreck absolutely everything now and am pretty much invincible most of the time while I do it. I had to turn up the difficulty to hard to make it a challenge again!

I've been wondering about running with a non-trinity party, but I worry that I'll lose out on the story by not being able to smash things or pick locks.  Does it really matter?  Like with the red lyrium quest, do you still get the points with Varric if you don't smash them?  I remember being very disappointed that I could not smash the walls, even with a kitted out Iron Bull.  (Temple of Dirthemon, I'm talking about you.)  I'm still not clear on how the smashing works.

Yes, I did that, and proceeded to RAWR the wall for about 3 minutes.  It did nothing.

Iron Bull is definitely able to smash walls. There isn't story you'll miss out on that I know of but loot, shortcuts, and occasionally side quests can be a problem. You can hardly get around the Forbidden Oasis without a mage, for example. Also you have to have a warrior for Varric's quest. He still gets slight approval if you smash lyrium when he isn't around.

 

Edit: I had some trouble the first time I tried smashing something. Try being right on top of it when you interact with it. If all else fails, save and reload. I'm not sure if consoles have these problems but sometimes PC just won't let you interact with things until you reload.

as far as smashing red lyrium goes, you can still smash it as a mage using mindblast if you went down the spirit tree. I'm not sure what other spells might work, but if you have any brute force AoE's give them a try.
