May I ask if you are german?

I talked to some germans who were...quite unfriendly when it came to german voice acting. It would be no problem for me to play the game in english, but those people tended to tell me what a stupid person I must be to use the german versions. (Must add, I study german and international linguistics and love languages, especially english )

 

You can download english for free, right?

Btw. talking about those "free" options. I got special weapons with the game. Fire weapon thingies, but where do I actually get them in game?

 

I used the "younger" voice for my character because I felt like a...pretty old lady with the other one.

Yeah I'm german, and honestly I'm not really fond of german voice acting either

Especially for games, they mostly just don't put a lot of effort into it

I generally prefer to play in the language a game is originally made in, because german translation often just uses the first word that comes up without thinking about context

But like I said, if the acting works for other people that's cool too, and if it helps your studies then all the better

 

It just kind of bothers me in Solas case because it feels like they got his personality all wrong

I assume it means the Vallaslin thing. Or does Cole say that even if you choose to keep them? Though I'm sure you can read more into that specific term than that. It's a very intimate and humiliating way of putting it that was probably intentional.

Oh my god XD I always read "bare-footed" XD bare-FACE makes so much more sense. I always thought it was pointing to her being lonely now, without clan and him. but bare FACE may point to the lack of vallaslin.

Elves are always supposed to be barefoot right (post DA:2). I saw my Lavellan wearing shoes after she wakes up/is captured and was thinking about how strange it was after they'd made such a big deal about Fenris & Merrill not wearing shoes (eventually she got Dalish armor so it was OK).

 

But I think "bare-faced" is intended to go both ways. It's not "bare-faced and embarrassed," there's just a comma separating the two so they could be synonymous to stress the meaning or literal. Does Cole pull directly from their heads (i.e. use their terminology), or am I misunderstanding his gift?

bioware broke me by writing Solas. Seriously, I should have left his romance as last - now I cannot even START romancing anyone else! And I so wanted to try romancing the Bull, only I start hearing the dreamy Solas voice, and I'm gone. And all I've been thinking about is a possible "fanfictions" (which remain solely in my head, for the better of general populace) in which there's a somehow happier ending! Not necessarily completely happy, mind you - I have the image of Solas coming and going on and off onto his mission or wherever, (but that's only my imagination). Still if there's no DLC I doubt I will be able to play other romances again (which is my plea to Bioware writers - please have mercy). 

Oh well, at least I'm not alone in being completely broken.

Is Solas immortal? Or is he affected by the humans' presence as the other elves are? Or is it more likely that's something else the Dalish got wrong and that the quickening was really caused by something else? If he is immortal, I wonder how it affects him to know that Lavellan isn't (unless he knows how to fix that).

 

And...any guesses as to what "Lavellan" translates to? Lan/llan is "friend" correct?

I just started my second playthrough as a human female, and meeting Solas for the first time I'm just like "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

 

I don't think I can do this. This is supposed to be my "devout andrastian romance cullen" playthrough. Theoretically Solas should hate my guts by the end of this. But I don't think I can do it. I'm gonna tear up everytime I talk to him.

Not sure... I found "ancient elven armor" in one of the old ruins somewhere, and then "Robes of the High Keeper" that I found from the Dalish shop. There was one more...they might be mage-exclusive, because I know Sera couldn't wear them (but is she restricted to human-only clothing?)

I'm unsure whether this has been covered or not, but the MBTI (completely unreliable, but contains some truths nonetheless) can aid understanding Solas' personality. If it has, well... just ignore this post.

 

At first I debated between INFP and INTP, but as I progressed through DA:I, it became evident he was a staunch INTP. He hones brutal honesty with a sharp tongue... and doesn't mind giving others the truth, regardless of emotional impact. And more under the cut, because spoilers.

Solas remains neutral, especially in disbelieving the "good or bad" argument," yet at the same time, he's deeply passionate and won't hold back emotion when the subject pertains to his interests (the Fade), or if he is crossed in the wrong way (the corruption of his spirit friend)... or if something unexpected has enraptured him (Lavellan).

Some INTP traits:

• complex, complicated (conflicting feelings)
• little interest in small talk (and if there's something to say, it has to be imperative, whether it's a biting quip or questioning to gain further understanding)

Also, as a side note to this: INTPs and roles--generally, if there's an important role to play, they'll only exert energy to fill it if there is no one suited to do so. Offering information about the Fade is an example of this quirk, although we know Solas had other motives.

Not sure if it's randomized but I found it in the Shrine of Sylaise in Exalted Plains, on a corpse through the spirit barrier. I think it might be? Unless the stats are determined by player class.

Well, practically the types can get mixed IMO. I've never seen a person with only one distinct temperament, for example, so this led me to believe that there is none in the MTBI (or socionics) as well.

there is a video on youtube when he says something "from Solas", after he left. And I thought about how he got that "information". Maybe he just picks something up in their minds. When someone thinks "I am afraid" he just has the word "angsty" in his head. It is kind of confusing.

A lavellan is a Scottish cryptid/mythological creature (it's more like làbh-allan but whatever). It's supposedly a rodent, larger than a rat, that is highly toxic and lives in deep pools of water. I always thought that's where the devs got "Lavellan" from, but of course you could certainly translate it as something based on what we know of elvish, yes.

 

I'm not too keen on Solas' German voice. It's too high and fast and young. The low, calm, composed, wise-sounding voice is a major part of his character.

 

Solas' Welsh accent in his English voice is very apparent to me, but then I am Scottish so that may be why.

 

Personality typing is one of my hobbies! It's 90% bullshit (much like horoscopes, which are 100% bullshit) but there are some kernels of truth in there and certainly it is an interesting thought exercise, the reflection required alone can help you understand your personality better. I brought it up in this thread at least once before prior to release - it was my belief that Solas is an INTP. This is still my belief. In the enneagram system he would be a type 5.

 

For comparison's sake, I am an ISTP, and my Inquisitor... ESTJ perhaps.
