I decided to drink from the Well myself because of the age-old; "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

I remember when Solas yelled at me about it by bringing up how he pleaded with me not to do it, I was like Wait, what, when? I couldn't for the life of me recall that.

 

I'm curious, what happened if you chose Solas as a potential candidate to Morrigan? Does he respond at all?

He tells you no, and tells you not to ask him again. Very forcefully I might add - he's pretty on edge during that whole mission but I thought he was going to slip up for certain after that line - it was so forceful.

I'm trying not to meta game, if Solas begged my character not drink from the well then she wouldn't because she trusts his advice but if that dialogue doesn't fire then the only information she has is how wrong the dalish have it and here's this thing that promises answers. Plus I do like my angst and enslaved to the god she chose as her person icon with a side order of in love with Fen'Harel promises plenty of that. 

 

It's like if my quizzy knew what happened in TME her actions at the Winter Palace would be vastly different: DEATH TO ALL!

The Blackwall thing really blindsided me. I only wish the quest and story behind it were a bit deeper, because it opened up to being something full of whoa-feels. Then it was a quick decision and a judgement. Sigh.

 

If I had romanced Blackwall, I would have felt a bit icky if there had been sex before knowing the truth, but I also have no real interest in Blackwall. I can see why that might have been a reason to leave things vague with Solas. Maybe it was just time and resource issues, but I still think it works best that we can decide for ourselves what we are comfortable with.

 

And now I realize how lucky we are they had time to add the extra romances. My inquisitor for sure would have been alone otherwise.

I let my Inquisitor drink from the well, because for her letting Morrigan drink was just too risky. She hardly knew her, anything she DID know about her were some vague answers on her part and a very decisive warning from Leliana not to trust her at any cost. All she had was the word of this stranger, who wasn't even elven, who probably would just steal that knowledge for her own purposes.
Also I think that my Lavellan just couldn't let that trove of knowledge go to somebody outside of her own culture, her race. Her own desire to learn and to understand the old ways was too overpowering in that moment, and she felt insulted that this human dared to claim she would be better suited to handle that knowledge. So it was also a decision out of pride and maybe desperation.

In the end, even with Solas being angry at her choosing to drink from the well, I'm immensly glad I took that choice. Because I love Morrigan as a character, and the scene where Flemeth talks to Kieran is heartbreaking enough as it is. Seeing her pleading for the life of her son, throwing her own safety away just so Flemeth wouldn't be able to hurt him.. that was some great characterdevelopment right there. I just couldn't go back and force Morrigan into the servitude of her own mother, not after everything that happened in DAO and now in DA:I.

Also to be honest, Ireally liked the scene where Solas snaps at your Inquisitor for drinking from the well. What I find interesting is that Solas is very collected, polite and discreet in his whole demeanour but oh booy does he get riled up when something/somebody he cares for gets threatened or is in danger. Like how he just lashes out at the mages for torturing his friend, completely ready to kill them right on the spot.
And its the same with Lavellan drinking from the well. He has a LOT more knowledge of the elven gods / nobles / whatever they actually were and he knows what a danger it is to indenture oneself to one of them, to become their unwilling servant. And it infuriates him because she doesn't understand the danger she's in and he can't help her, might has to watch her become a pawn in a game far bigger than she is.

So yeah... really liking the dynamic in the scene between them after she drank from the well. Just so intense and raw, completely in contrast to Solas' softer, polite characteristcs.

I haven't played through that romance unfortunately, but I am aware of what you mean. In that instance it really isn't quite in the same category as Solas. They are both lying, but Blackwall's lies really don't impact the Inquisitor all that much. Solas's lies are huge. Not everyone wants to be 'tricked' into a romance with what could eventually become a villain. 

 

Essentially, when Blackwall turns out to be lying, people tend to just write him off as a jerk. But there's no threat to the Inquisitor.

 

When Solas turns out to be lying, there is a perceived threat to the Inquisitor.

 

[Not saying that he is actually a threat to her, just that he could be, and some people would not like that information to have been hidden for them. Like I said before, it isn't really a case of narrative, but making sure that your audience doesn't feel uncomfortable.]

I think it is up to the player to decide if they were intimate or not. There's plenty of dialogue to confirm that they did, but you could also take it as the other characters just teasing them. 

 

If they had shown them having sex, chances are there would be a lot of speculation if Lavellan was now pregnant with a demon baby. Showing sex onscreen puts the act into a narrative focus.

 

Then there's also the fear that it might have made the player uncomfortable. While it might make narrative sense for them to have a traditional love scene, a player might see sex between them as being a bit rapey. He's lying to her, and not only that, there's an immense power difference between the two. It is in bioware's best interest to avoid anything that might make a player uncomfortable. I think they made the right call when you look at it from an outside perspective.

 

Perhaps they'll revisit it in DLC, now that the player is aware of what they are getting into.

Ok, I can accept this take on it (and it's very well put!), but I simply can't understand how it would seem "rapey". I know there was mention of this opinion before where some feedback that the writers got stated that people interpreted it this way. However, how the heck is it rapey? Ok, so he isn't being fully truthful about who he is, but that doesn't mean he doesn't truly love her. I know I couldn't expect someone with such a complicated background to tell me all of his secrets right off the bat. Plus, he has warned the Inquisitor so so so many times that this will end in disaster, and if you pursue him, you KNOW what you are getting into isn't going to be all flowers and sunshine. 

 

Whew, sorry. Didn't meant to go off on a tangent, but I'm just honestly confused about why anyone would be against it :S It is a matter of opinion though, and I know that my views may be strongly different from others. Just wanted to put in my 2 sovereigns on the topic. That, and I might be too trusting and forgiving IRL

We know that there was a scene that a female writer in bioware felt uncomfortable with, and it is possible that that scene could have been Solas's. Since we don't have the scene in question, we just have to assume they made the right call as to whether or not to include it.

so many people felt betrayed by Solas? I've come across a lot of people who despise him for what happens at the end of the game and I don't get it. What did he do? We find out he's the Dead Wolf and he seems to absorb Flemeth's spirit or power... I don't know. Am I missing something?

There's also the possibility that it was someone else's scene that got cut/altered. Not that it really matters. I generally err on the side of caution, so if a writer felt that something seemed to cross the line than I probably would have agreed - regardless of whose romance it was. I think it's far more likely that had there been an uncomfortable extra scene with Solas, they would have simply changed it rather than removing it entirely. To me it's more likely that his cutscenes and interactions are more chaste and ambiguous because we'll learn more about him later, and because restraint is a large part of his character at this point.

I was under the assumption that it could have been Solas's scene, if there was ever one planned.  I found the vallaslin scene to be very intimate on an emotional level, however (if you opt for it- which I did).

I think I looted that particular armor from a locked room in Chateau d'Onterre in the Emerald Graves. Not sure if it's a random item, but he does look damn fine in it.

 

What I want to know is where the heck do you find different beds and drapes? I know my Lavellan had bigger things to worry about, but come on. Drapes. Castles are drafty! And it could use a splash of color.

So would we be wrong to think that Andraste's Herald is really Fen'Harel's Herald ? Maybe in a hundred years she could be the stuff of legends. A tragic legend that is. About a mortal who restored order in Thedas and fell in love with a 'god', showing him that his people were worth saving. After all, he does say at the end that the People need him. (he says in every playthrough but it makes much more sense with Lavellan, or at least gives it a more positive vibe)
