Someone did an analysis and none of the existing vallaslin they covered seemed to match him, though there are a few new ones in Inquisition and the ones they covered were from Origins. I think the only one we definitely know the correlation for is Mythal, as Abelas and his friends are all wearing the same markings. However, I would not be too surprised if at one point Fen'harel did happen to have vallaslin associated with him but came to hate the very idea of it and abolished them to time given his reactions to you having your own. At the very least, if he did have them and never got rid of them, the Dalish wouldn't keep such markings around given their disdain for him. ): I would like to see a concept for what his theoretically could have looked like though. If only because I love their designs to bits.

I thought I read somewhere that the Dalish don't wear his vallaslin, lest they attract his attention...

Also, I forgot all about this (from the wiki) til now:

In Dragon Age: Redemption a Dalish clan staying in the Free Marches was in possession of an artifact called Mask of Fen'Harel. When combined with elven blood and activated in a Dalish place of power, such as the Mythal's altar atop Sundermount, the artifact was capable of tearing the Veil and thus opening a portal into the Fade. Using the Mask, a Qunari Saarebas addressed Fen'Harel as though the Dread Wolf was able to hear him.

Maybe the similitude between Briala and the dread wolf is that they are both revolutionary and that they tend to employ the same methods/tactics to obtain what they want? The main difference between them could be that Briala tries to improve the live of the "present" elves while Fen'Harel/solas is determined to rebuild an ancien glory?

Possibly! I think the tenacity/rebellion aspect is definitely why Felessan compared them. Briala is also very clever.

As to whether or not Felessan was killed by Solas...we don't know. At the moment I am leaning more towards 'no'. Ingame, Solas speaks favorably of Briala. Then there's also the question of why Solas would need Felessan's help if he's capable of moving around on his own. The master in the fade seemed to be bound there.

 

But really, its anyone's guess. All we know is that Weekes is not willing to say yet, so it seems the mystery is still relevant!  

 

Interesting bit about the mask! I never watched the entirety of redemption. I wonder if she was speaking with him.

I'm actually really glad there was no "elven babies" plot. So incredibly glad. I was so worried about that. The actual "super story reasons" are so much more impactful. 

 

And re: immortality, I dunno. I'm not in favour of it, tbh. It wouldn't fit my Lavellan at all. She wants to make things better for the people currently living. She has a very real, very visceral stake in the world of the present. The idea of watching her friends grow old and die around her would be terrifying and tragic. And simply having Solas would not be enough. She loves the Inquisition. So a "mortal friends vs immortal fade boyfriend" choice would be...eugh. Reminds me too much of **** like Twilight.

My guess is that Fen'harel was indeed trapped during The MaE (asleep) but still able to comunicate trough dreams with some special elves like Felassan.

Solas didn't seem to be an evil person, yet he's clearly capable of killing someone to achieve his goal (Flemeth) even if it saddens him.

I was careful about my flirting but from what I've heard, Solas powers through into his second romance scene no matter what you do after you had that first kiss. You get the option to break it off with him then, though. You should be fine as long as you didn't actively enter into a relationship with another character, and you usually get a clear indication of when that choice arises.

Also that Dorian banter reminds me of Orsino and Hawke.

If immortality is tied to removal of the veil, maybe everyone would live longer if not forever. I really wonder what the effect of removing the veil will be on humans and qunari, since they were not around Thedas last time "everything sang the same". Though I guess the Veil exists everywhere? We don't really know much about what happened/is happening across the Amaranthine sea...

It is definitely possible! I don't doubt Solas might kill someone if he felt they were possibly holding him back from his goals. I think the ambiguousness, just like whatever happened between him and Flemeth, was done intentionally to keep us guessing as to what Solas's motives are.

During my first playthrough, I really thought his goal was to remove the Veil. I realized by the end his goals are more complicated than that, but I wonder if removing the Veil is part of his plan.

There's a tome in the Fade about exchanging the hound for the wolf. Maybe it's meant to be metaphorical for the domesticated side vs. the wild hunter.

The Divine confirms that it's part of the Inquisitor now and will only be removed by her death.

My hope is that future dlc will give the Inquizzie the option to help him unlock the the eluvian or not - and I'd assume if you choose not to, he would (regrettably) have to kill the Inquisitor.

 

Couple more observations.

It seems to me he comes close to blurting the truth when he says

"You have a wisdom and subtlety I haven't known since... since I walked the deepest memories of the Fade." And some of his dialogue makes me think he really wants to be known. That's possibly why he risked getting close to Lavellan.

About what I said up above about no god needing to throw his weight around:

Man, I'm so glad the elves are getting their due. I knew they had to be more complicated than we'd seen, but I was thinking Bioware would mostly focus on the humans and the elves would continue to be background color, like in The Witcher universe.

During my first playthrough, I really thought his goal was to remove the Veil. I thought that too. After that conversation, I was like, "****...I'm gonna romance him, and in the end he's gonna want to get rid of the veil, and I'm gonna have to make a tough decision...**** it he's awesome I'll keep romancing him anyways.

When I finally succeeded in blackmailing Gaspard, Solas was the only one to approve. When I let Celene die, Solas seems to be the only one who didn't have an opinion.

It seems that the Eluvians can be doors that allows to physically travel through the fade, Flemeth/Mythal had that power. The orb was supposed to allow the same thing.

In the MaE, apparently Fen'Harel wanted the eluvians (or maybe it was someone else but who?), while in DAI, Solas needed the orb. This could be a coincidence, but still ...

I wonder what is so important in the Fade and why it is only Solas that can save the People and not Flemeth? Maybe she simply didn't want to? Not like that anyway. Plus apparently, she was most driven by vengeance than anything else.

That and Cole's comments make me think that lifting the Veil is a big part of whatever plan he has. Plus there's Sandal's prophecy, and a few codex entries about the Veil itself...There was a moment during the mage quest when he said "it was not supposed to happen like this" (paraphrasing) and I thought for sure he was realizing how wrong he was about getting rid of the Veil but...that was before I knew all about who he was and what he was doing (now it seems he's talking about what Coryphefish does specifically).

Anyone have theories on his eventual goals?

 

[spoiler] I want to think that he is trying to restore the other creators but then...it doesn't seem like he thinks highly of them. It seems like he cares for them as friends or comrades, but then talks about all the really bad things they did. And talks about "the path that I must walk alone forever" through Cole at the end. But then he wants to help "The People" and ahhh guys I just don't know!!
