It's super subtle, and really impressive to me that they pulled that transition off. Most videos games would fail horribly at that. 

 

That was such a great expression. Since I'd played through once already(a playthrough which assured me Dorian would be my utmost favorite...but look who drove me back to the forums after years of inactivity), I knew how it would end. However, that subtle shift still just kind of broke my heart and poured about three bucketfuls of dread into the crack.

That is true every expression they did with every companion was Amazing. Even when Solas breaks up with your Lavellan.....  I hate that part.

I definitely think it was two birds with one stone.  The guy's a chess master, for heaven's sake!  And he says later that he never expected a Tevinter mage to be able to use it.

For all his 'godness' , Solas still makes mistakes. He gives the orb. He falls in love.

He wakes up and doesnt like how he shaped the world so he wants to change things.

 

Thats how great a character he is.

 

Now if Bioware turns him into the next Big Bad im gonna be hopelessly sad. But right now im just fascinated by all the potential he offers.

 

Im sure hes gonna be keeping an eye on Lavellan. He might promise himself not to interfere in her life ever again and let her go. But he is flawed.

 

I dont think a 'happy ending' is possible but I can see a great deal of opportunity for anything in between that could give them both a measure of happiness.

 

That is if hes not turned into a raving villain in the next game -.-

Yes, and that really drove home to me how truly Spock-like he is.  He feels so much but he must repress everything for the supposed good of all.

 

I still think he's a toxic bastard as far as love interests go, but yeah, I do understand what he's doing and why.

 

I don't really think he's all that Spock-like. He's calm most of the time but I wouldn't say he represses emotions. He never pretends he doesn't love you or hides his feelings for you, he just says that with the path he walks he can't be with you. He outright refuses to tell you he doesn't care!

 

I'm not sure what's toxic about his romance.....? He warned you from the beginning that it probably wasn't a good idea to start a romance and you had to actively choose to push on with it.

It's just some super strong wording you used there so I'm left like 

 

Not to say there isn't troubling elements to how the whole story arc goes down but toxic is a bit much in my opinion. I respect if you don't want to go into it, though! No worries.

im probably going to mostly lurk most of the night though. I'm still pretty damn terrified of it  being up there. I've been all weird about sharing my art since an... 'Incident' with a (now) ex-boyfriend a while back. Writing not as much because I had a lot more support from friends for it, but drawing has always been a private thing, for example one of my teachers in school opened my sketchbook and I grabbed it from her hands and ran away, so having a bad incident with it from someone i cared about was a lot more.. jarring.

All I'll say, once again, is that hurt people hurt people.  Emotionally unavailable men who don't know they are, or who refuse to believe it for whatever length of time, but who make you think that perhaps there's a chance you can heal them... well... trust me I've had far too much experience with those.

One of the things that appeals to me about Dragon Age is the fact that you have dialogue options and choices and you are allowed to interpret characters however you see fit. One of the responses towards Solas is rage and basically calling him a bastard. You can be an inquisitor who thinks he's toxic and walks away from it being 100% done with him if you want. You can also interpret it differently and wish to bring him back somehow. It's entirely up to us and that's the beauty of it all.

 This reminded me of something.

The way the term "gods" is used in this game really makes me think of the "gods" in Princess Mononoke. They weren't necessarily creators of the universe, but they were powerful, ancient beings. Some had no issue with being called gods. All of them were flawed. This is how I have interpreted Elven gods so far. While Solas says he doesn't believe they are gods, he does seem to acknowledge that they (and he) were special, and different, in some way than the others.

I mean If you have 2 cents of jugment you figure of hes just evading the whole time.

 

But the good thing is that since its fantasy you can pursue it anyway and get an experience that lets you bawling on your pillow.

Or if youve been hurt you can slam the door in the bastard's face and run away with Cullen to sugarland.

Yes, you're absolutely right.  I just don't do well at all with tragedy that looks far too much like what I've experienced in real life.

 

Which is definitely a huge compliment to the creators of this game, but I just don't do well at all.

 

The fact that I had no choice in the matter except not to partake at all did not make me happy either.
