I think that, if romanced, the romance is an unfortunate complication of his plans. If you tell him to say he hates you, he refuses to even say he doesn't care about you. This is intriguing, given the things he is
okay with lying about. My life experiences and assumptions, were I to believe he was cold and manipulative through the end, would expect him to willingly say anything to make leaving the inquisitor easier. For reasons I hope we come to be aware of soon, he can't bear to tell her about himself, but he also loves and respects her too much to trick her into believing he doesn't care.
I've been in a similar situation in the past--genuinely having feelings for someone but knowing that my life circumstances would not be good for them, and being too impulsive to stop the relationship from forming in the first place. Perhaps this is why I'm not as eager to tell him off as so many others are. He just better have a damn good explanation for the inquisitor whenever we do get closure.
