Not sure if this has been posted before but I noticed the early concept art was missing from the first post. If anyone is interested you can see them here (credit goes to the uploader). He looks a lot more evil in the first sketches with hair in my opinion, which is pretty interesting.

It might be far more about what he cannot handle than about what you cannot handle. 

 

That does not excuse it.  Nobody has any right to decide what someone they love can and cannot emotionally handle.  It is entirely disrespectful to withhold important information if you truly love someone.

 

No if he wasn't who he is, no. If he was a normal guy with a secret like the others I would wholeheartedly argree with you. And what hexomega said.

He basically is a normal guy with powerful magic, as are apparently all the Creators, and he tries very hard to make you see that.

(Spoiler) At the final scene in the romance, it seemed like it was a sudden realization that caused him to break up with you. At least judging by how his face changed after he broke away from the kiss. I agree it was probably more a case of what he could not handle.

Soooo many things I missed the first time.  So maybe the Creators are spirits that became real, like Cole?  Solas does say that he is surprised it happened, with an unsaid "again" at the end of that statement.  Such incredible acting.

Ahhh Tom Shear, you're a genius, I actually find myself singing Cocoon when I think about Solas sometimes (A23 are one of my favourite bands btw).  I expect we'll find a lot of similarities when it comes to his writing.

Oh my. I am very glad they went with the design they did, but damn, those dreadlocks are ridiiiiculously hot. Definitely makes him look a bit younger and brash than what they were going for. And wearing a skull on your head is probably a bit too transparently: 'I am up to something.' 

 

I actually just ordered this book the other day. You can get it on Amazon for 25 dollars. Even cheaper if that Holiday30 promo is still going on.

Another thought after looking over the concept art: the images are tiny, but does he seem to have a mark on his hand? Several of the concept art show him with a hand marking, and then in the other concept arts, he is 'wrapping' his hands up. Iiiinteresting.

I never thought of it before but even his card has the red little flame - maybe it's supposed to represent the anchor since it was originally his?

Yes he seem to be, Tielis, but that is something we as players know/suspect, but the people of Thedas don't. Cultural beliefs tend to be rather difficult to change. It is possible and all you need is one person to start with. But with the current state of Thedas I don't think that was a chance he could afford to take. If my interpretation is anywhere near what the writers have in mind for the future that is. I'm not completely sure, he could be worse than Cory for all we know. Until Bioware shatters my hopes for good I choose to believe the positive interpretation.

Im pretty happy of all we managed to put together about Solas in this thread and other good ones about Fen'Harel and the Elhven Gods.

 

It is mostly speculation on codex entries  + Cole dialogue interpretation but it brushes the most interesting portrait of events for me since i got into the DA universe ( i enjoyed discovering the whole darkspawns + archdemon background in DAO but nothing compares to this idea of a rebellious god bringing forward the Veil to end a war and then awakening just to miss the way things were before).

 

 

Now im awfully sad that my Lavellan doesnt know as much as I do as the player. I have to remind myself that she cant be like 'Thats alright, he's got goddly things to do. Thats a fine reason for moving on from what we shared'. Arrrg! So hard to distance things right now.

 

And here's a question:

 

In the romace scene, it all starts with Solas telling Lavellan he wanted to show her what their relationship meant to him. Oh and then it ended up with the breakup, with you either letting him change you (removing the vallaslin with his godly powers) or clinging to what you are (because the tattoos are what tie together the Dalish, whatever the meaning of them was originally).

 

So do you think Solas knew he was about to end things? What made up his mind?

Ahah! Unfortunately it is still a bit hard to tell, but I was wondering if perhaps they had intended it to be that. Obviously his hands are bare so the character design didn't get carried over*, but it is an interesting thought.
