Honestly, I am just worried that they are going to make us wait 3-4 years for the next game and it won't be Lavellan who finds out what Solas is doing. T_T

I'm pretty hopeful, the DAO awakening expansion was released within 6 months after release of DAO. At this point I'm pretty certain that they will expand on DA:I instead of a DA4 because the game really seems to be set up for adding more and more content.

Does Solas make Cole forget about him entirely? I found this sort of strange: he makes him stop/forget during a banter but that doesn't stop Cole from remembering/bringing it up later. During the last dialogue does he make him forget Solas entirely? Wouldn't Cole still know who he is once everyone starts talking about him? Wouldn't he still want to find him because he's the spirit of compassion and he wants to help Lavellan?

 

On another note, I read in The World of Thedas book that blood magic can be used to find people in their dreams. I know blood magic is supposed to be icky, but depending on how much is needed it seems like it'd be an easy way to find Solas...Lavellan would just call up Merrill to teach her...

I don't think he forgot Solas entirely, but more what he read from him. But I am guessing Solas wouldn't have been opposed to Cole forgetting about him entirely, either. Solas cares about Cole, perhaps as much as he cares for Lavellan. If Cole was capable of 'reading' into Solas's thoughts, Cole should have been a liability to Solas. But he doesn't treat him that way.

 

In fact, he sounds very sad that he might have troubled Cole.

Yeah but he's not being completely honest with her about himself, so there's a limit...I'm not saying they're having casual sex - he tells her he loves her - I'm saying they were on maybe level 4 before and after the Vallaslin thing would be moving to level 10

I think it shows how much you love the game if you want to play more of it! It's flattering to the writers (or I hope they see it that way). There's a trend with game expansions releasing in episodes these days. I don't think DA will go that route persay, but I'm hopeful it allows them to go with something a bit longer/more developed than the DA:2 expansions.

Iron Bull, who doesn't seem to be a very serious partner, and "Blackwall" who sleeps with Quizzie and then gets arrested because surprise he's not who he says he is. Those would not have been satisfying romances at all for me. Even if they don't resolve it, I know what Lavellan x Solas had was real (as he says). Though really, they're going to have to resolve it right? Right?!

 

 

You know what, that right there makes me want to laugh myself sick at everyone who whined it wasn't fair women got more options in the game than men did. I mean, look at what our original choices would have gotten us. They might not have liked how their options looked or found the personality abrasive, but do either of the male-oriented romances do crap like that? No? Then STFU.

 

I would have seriously not romanced anyone for the first time ever in a BioWare game. I didn't in NWN2 either, until Gann in the expansion, but that wasn't BioWare anyway. Normally I would go through with it just to see the content and add to the story, but I have serious vomit-feelings thinking of

And Bull? Well, he's a cool bro and all, but just wouldn't have fit well with my character. No I did not intend any double meaning there.

 

Well; I would have done a playthrough for Cassandra and Josie eventually, but still. Those aren't my "canon" runs.

 

For many reasons, I am glad they had the extra year. And no matter the outcome of the Solas romance, it was worth the experience.

(Spoiler) At the final scene in the romance, it seemed like it was a sudden realization that caused him to break up with you. At least judging by how his face changed after he broke away from the kiss. I agree it was probably more a case of what he could not handle.

The sudden realization is that if he sleeps with you (for the first time or one last time) he won't be able to leave you. He loves you too much. He backs out of Lavellan visibly afraid and says "vehnan please" if you try to tell him not to leave. He realizes he can't break up with you unless he does it right then and there.

But he might very well be backing away in part because he doesn't want to change her as well. I don't think he holds it against her that she keeps the Vallaslin though (if she makes that choice). His opinions on the Dalish seem to soften through the romance, and even though he's a bit thick I'm sure he can appreciate her explanation; she doesn't really tell him he's wrong, she accepts the new information and says that the meaning has changed. 

 

 

 

 

Yeah he seems ok if she makes the choice to keep the Vallaslin and her answer that now, after all that time, it means something else is jsut like any oppressed culture taking back symbols of their oppression to make them part of their heritage, so Im ok on that front either way.

 

 

 

Im just not big on the explanation that what he has to do might be dangerous so its nicer to not get involved. I mean thats just like saying soldiers, policemen and firemen should never marry... Plus they keep putting their lives on the line day after day for the Inquisition.

 

My favorite interpretation is that it hs something to do with him being a god. Thats not something you can spring on someone, and at the same time he might be tired of not being truthful to the one he loves. so he decides to pull back.

 

My least favorite interpretation is that hes got to 'fix the world' and wont involve her in that because it migh thave dire consequences for the way things are right now in Thedas. But thats probbly the better plot for a dlc for most players >.<

Honestly, I think if it's because he doesn't want her harmed, then that's a pretty bad reason. I mean, she risked her life many times already against a god-like being. It's not like she can't handle it.

I personally doubt that it is the fear of her being harmed, at least in the sense that 'oh, you are too weak to help me'. I forgot what option it is, but the Inquisitor can offer to help him during the break up scene.

 

Almost immediately his face darkens, and he says: "No, you can't." It is a touch ominous. 

 

To me, it seems that his plans are something she would oppose. At least for the moment. He doesn't want to drag her along into scheming that he knows she won't approve of. Lavellan is a danger to Solas because she represents another option: moving on. I think he is afraid that Lavellan could actually convince him not to do what he's already got into his head that he needs to do. Hence, 'He hurts, an old pain from before, when everything sang the same. You're real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't.'

 

On the flip side, there's also the possibility that he knows her anchor might be important to his plans, and he is deliberately distancing himself from her in order to not be tempted to try and explore that avenue.

He says that all he can offer her is the truth, and the hypocrisy of his deceptions might have got to him at that moment.

That and I think he was lowering her to the grass, kissing her so he was obviously going to get some "Elven Glory" then he freezes and pulls back.  I think up until that second he thought he could have some "nookie" (one more time, for the first time) and then dump her but Solas realized how much she meant to him and that having one more "goood time" would make it impossible for him to leave Quizzy.

 

UPDATE: AS someone says, after that third scene

Their romance would go from "level 4" to "level 10" and Solas can barely bring himself to break a level 4. There is no way he can breakup with her if they spend more intimate time together

She killed Coryphefish and walked bodily in the Fade. She (possibly - don't know what happens when one sides with the Templars) visited the future where Coryphefish is all powerful and survived. It's not as if she cannot handle herself in a dangerous situation. If he's distancing himself because he's planning on ripping open the Veil then...well that makes no sense. That's obviously something that will affect her. Anything major he does is going to have a major effect on her. He can't protect her at all if he's not near her, so leaving to protect her seems uncharacteristically dumb. [spoiler]

 

Which makes me wonder...

 

[spoiler] If he really intends to do something major. When talking to Abelas I thought he mentioned a place where they could go. Maybe there is a secret enclave for the People? Maybe he's doing something with that, rather than trying to change the entire world?

She keeps doing impossible things, so he knows she is capable of handling the insane stuff she stumbles into. I wouldn't like it if he condecendingly thinks he has to protect her from some outside threat. I'm hoping for something more profound.

I finally got the post breakup banter with him and Cole after entering the Emerald Graves (love that place), that was the first interactive banter I'd had too, through an entire game...also, what is it that Cole says in Elven at the beginning?

Like poor Varric if Hawke dies. That was so sad, and they weren't even romantically involved. I still think unless what he's doing will have no effect on her (unlikely), he'd be better off keeping her with him so he could at least guide her towards the safest path.

 

From a story perspective, I hope we get to play part of the DLC without Solas. I'd love to see post-romance Lavellan mature as a character and make decisions without her guide-hobo (I've started viewing "hobo" as an honorific, like "sensei"). I'd really love if her decisions ended up being better than his, and force him to confront the idea that he still doesn't know what is best.

 

Regarding DLC plot:

I bet we won't have any ability to avert whatever his plans are. It will probably be an Anders situation where the player can only react to what happens. That's the only way I can think of for them to avoid two completely different plots happening. I just hope that unlike in DA:2 with Anders, we have a little more control over what happens afterwards! Is that wishful thinking?

 

Though I was really impressed that they made entirely different cutscenes depending on whether or not you had the OGB in the game - hope they continue that tradition. It seems more common that they just substitute what character shows up for another one, so the different scenes was a really nice surprise.

Also in favor of this: if you ask why he says "everything will be made clear." I see a lot of people interpreting that as him coming back to explain but it seems to me that whatever he's going to get up to will have self-evident results. But then the orb breaks, which changes everything.

 

Oh and that one "no matter the cost" comment if you say you want to put things back the way they were before Corypheus.

 

Only slightly related but I wonder if the orb wasn't his goal all along and helping with Corypheus was just a side effect? I'm pretty sure the reason he leaves like he does is because he's distraught over the loss of the orb.

Oh he wants that orb allright, but I really don't think he wants Cory as a god. He hates slavery and oppression doesn't he? Cory had to go no matter what. I need to revisit some scenes later tonight, something is nagging me

I picked the angry version, though I'm waffling on whether or not that is the final one I'm going with. I thought she'd be angry first, and only sad later when she realized he wasn't kidding about it. Plus it's the only version where she walks away from him and I like that. I feel like she took a little power away for herself and didn't let him control the whole situation.

 

But then I feel awful because he looks so hurt and broken. I don't like the stoic option - he just sort of mirrors Quizzie and walks away without seeming too broken up about it. Sad Puppy version is tied with the angry version for me and it might end up being my final choice
