Just curious. Which version of the final scene did you guys pick and why?

I picked the sad puppy version in which he removed the vallaslin and she told him that she loves him. I think that is how I would feel at the moment. Kind of surprised and shocked which would make me a bit desperate. And then later on, I would be angry, but not at that moment because of the shock.

Definitely sad kicked puppy.  My heart was in my throat and I started shaking.  Hm, wait.  No, I took the stoic version because my gal had been stoic all the way through.  I think that's what tore me up the most -- he just turns away like it didn't matter at all.

 

As for what I think he's up to now...

I think maybe he did plan to come back and tell her everything, but then the orb broke and he had to adjust his plans.  I think the orb was a safeguard against the Veil coming down and now that it's broken, there is a huge chance of the pissed off Creators escaping into this world.  So now he's initiating Plan B:  kill/absorb all the Creators before they can destroy the world.

 

And of course Lavellan wouldn't be down for that.  Or so he thinks, anyway.  I hope in the next installment we can either side with him or against him, just like with Anders.

I am honestly not sure what I'll do for my 'canon' inquisitor.

I see her as a very stable individual. She's a lot like Solas in a sense. She's intelligent and thoughtful, and very self assured. Perhaps too much so. She was the first to the Keeper. She's used to getting the things she wants in life, and having others follow her lead. Her ego would definitely take a hit at Solas breaking it off with her. 

 

But ever since the breach, she's had to very rapidly mature. Her ego takes a hit, but I don't think it is enough to break her. She has her suspicions about him, but they are fairly mundane. She is a person that wants to control the things around her, and often believes she can outthink a puzzle. At first, she likely believes that Solas will come back once the battle is over.

 

For this reason, I think I am more likely to go with the 'if you must', response. I just don't quite like how it comes off as flippant. She does care, she's just not crumbling to pieces over it. I may break character though and go with the 'I love you' response, just because Solas's expression is so heart crushing. 

 

It is only after the game ends, and Solas vanishes, that my Inquisitor really starts to worry. She worries that he might be in trouble, and that she might have completely misread him.

I also picked the sad one. My first character in a game like this is always a reflection of me in a sense, and that's exactly how I was feeling, haha. "nooo Solas don't leave ; ~;"

It also really suited her, though; I've looked at the other options and I don't think any of them work as well for her. In the end, she wouldn't even be angry--just sad and confused. (And curious. If my Lavellan had a fatal flaw, it would absolutely be her curiosity.)

I take it this conversation only comes up during a romance?

Only Corypheus mentions it during battle with Revas Lavellan, so I take it that Solas doesn't reveal the inception of the vallaslin as slave markings, before the Dalish appropriated the designs as a symbol of defiance against human rule over their people and religion?

I picked the 'sad puppy' one as well. It is just so wonderfully heartwrenching especially the part where she tries to get close and he just backs away with some wonderful voice acting on both sides showing just how hard it is and how much it hurts them both.

On the other hand, he still doesn't like people being enslaved and bringing back the creators would likely repeat history. Maybe he really is prideful enough to want to absorb all the gods into himself to make elven religion into a monotheistic one. Oh boy, if that happens, he won't be Solas anymore and the romance would die. I wonder if he was still himself at the final scene. T_T

I personally feel that Solas didn't return to explain to Lavellan like he said he would because he was flat out lying when he said he was going to explain everything. I think he honestly thought that there was no way in hell Lavellan could ever love him if she knew who he really was, and he thought it would be far less cruel to have her think he's a total ****** than have her find out she's been making out with the person/god that her whole life she's been told is the most evil and hated character in Dalish history. Although I think it would be amazing if in future dlc/expansion/game we get the option to confront Solas with our Lavellan's, get a confession out of him, and have the option to either reject him because you seriously can't overlook the Dread Wolf thing, or not reject him and tell him what a stupid-head he was for leaving I also personally want everyone to have the option to hit him when we first encounter him in the future, like:
Lavellan: SOLAS?
Solas: Oh c***, Lavellan?!
Lavellan: *punches him with an extremely grumpy and upset look on her face*
Solas: Yes, I see I deserved that.
Lavellan: *punches him again*
Solas: And probably that too.
Lavellan: *punches him a third time*
Solas: Pls Lavellan, stahp, my beautiful face!
Lavellan: COME BACK HERE SO I CAN PUNCH YOU AGAIN, COWARD! YOU STUPID EGG-HEAD!

Well, we don't know if he can release the souls like Flemeth did to Kieran, so maybe there is hope yet.

Sad puppy for me. In my recording you can tell I was really frantic because I didn't know what would happen in that scene so I went over all the options before immediately picking the "I love you" ;_; My Lavellan just wanted to hold onto him and assure him they could work through whatever it was, but nope.

 

In regards to his reasons

I do think it's because he didn't want to involve Lavellan in his problems. His problems are centuries old, problems that aren't of the mortal world but the universe. I don't think it's in a condescending way as some people are making this interpretation out to be. She can totally handle herself, he knows it, just he needs to do this alone and atone for his own mistakes. And whatever happens, he can't afford to drag her down with him. And he knows that if he stays, he won't be able to fix his mistakes, and that's something he needs to do because it's affected the universe and not just himself.

About seeing him again

I'm not sure Varlaina would punch him, maybe softly bap his chest a few times. Mostly she would just sob against him and hold him to herself in such a death grip. She would be so terrified he would leave again. Pretty sure for the next few days of them being together she wouldn't leave his side, demanding answers and just being with him.

 

I think she would be a little angry, but more so relieved and happy and sad... and all those emotions hah; BUT then again I have a totally guilty self serving headcanon of Varlaina getting pregnant in their time together and leaving with Cole to go try and find him before the baby is born. I just see his shocked expression in my head as he looks at her stomach, then is rushed with guilt or something. >0>

Also in favor of this: if you ask why he says "everything will be made clear." I see a lot of people interpreting that as him coming back to explain but it seems to me that whatever he's going to get up to will have self-evident results. But then the orb breaks, which changes everything.
 
Oh and that one "no matter the cost" comment if you say you want to put things back the way they were before Corypheus.
 
Only slightly related but I wonder if the orb wasn't his goal all along and helping with Corypheus was just a side effect? I'm pretty sure the reason he leaves like he does is because he's distraught over the loss of the orb.

And part of the reason he break up could be he's not sure what quizzy would react after she find out he is the one responsible for the whole mess?

Besides, am I the only one think Inquisitor may still be the main character in DA4? For DAI gives me the feeling of ME2. And this time despite all the choices you made, the main difference in next game could only be whether your Inquisitor

That does not excuse it.  Nobody has any right to decide what someone they love can and cannot emotionally handle.  It is entirely disrespectful to withhold important information if you truly love someone.

He basically is a normal guy with powerful magic, as are apparently all the Creators, and he tries very hard to make you see that.

 

So you HAVE to reveal every single thing about yourself to someone you love or you're being disrespectful and manipulative? That doesn't sound healthy at all in a normal relationship. You have a right to your own secrets and discretion. Let alone one where Solas revealing himself could have endangered him and the entire world if the Inquisitor got distracted from the goal of stopping Corypheus.

I'm curious, does a mage Lavellan get any different dialogue than a non-mage one?  I took the arcane perk and got the additional dialogue at the Well, but is there anything different for mages?

I've only played mage, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing unique in there, just the Arcane Knowledge one.

Just wondering if there is anything to support my theory that the Creators are elves who were/are willingly possessed, and being a mage makes it easier.  I'm wondering if being a mage may make a difference for Lavellan in the future.

Considering all ancient elves practiced magic, I don't know if there'd be a difference.
 
 

Nah, doesn't make good business sense. They need to capitalize on the success of DA:I while it is still relevant. For both DA:O and DA:2 they released significant DLC in the first four to six months. They're probably going to get GOTY and they'll want to have a few big DLC missions/expansions to tack onto whatever GOTY edition they put out as well. There's no reason for them not to use the Inquisitor for those future DLCs.
 
Take comfort in capitalism - it's one of the few times it works in our favor!

I hope we'll profit from past mistakes and how they seem to have learned with the DA2 and Citadel DLC, where you got to take your companions and they provided closure to the relationships. But it will also probably depend on the commercial success of the game. All that voice acting would be very expensive.

I'm getting the feeling that the next two games are going to be like Mass Effect, where we play one character through it. With carried over romances and new romances in each installment. What if the first two games are basically, "Setting up the World", and Inquisition is "Setting up the Characters", with the next two games (I do believe BW has said there's going to be at least two more, unless I'm mistaken?) being "Fix It", basically?

 

IDK. It probably won't happen, but I really, really want it too. Especially if there are going to be more than four games. I don't want so many characters that I have to care about. Three is enough lol.
