imo, this is the perfect example of foreshadowing. If someone played through and paid a ton of attention to Solas, then they would probably guess, or at least have a really good idea. And people that only found out when it was spelled out can now go back and catch all the little hints. It's seriously the ideal foreshadowing. I love stories like this, where every time you go back through you find something new that hints toward a revelation.
I haven't found any hints yet, but I'm still in the very very early stages of the game about to go to Val Royeaux. I'm just flabbergasted that he's not even telling half-truths, it's just flat out lies.
And this breaks my heart all over again for my other Lavellan who romanced him. Ah well, in a few years she'll get her closure. 
Maybe for your Inquisitor. As for mine, they totally banged. It was deep, sensual, passionate...and they banged. At least until Bioware decides to implement some kind of canon that says it didn't happen >.>

One of my first clues was what he said if you take him to the ball. He mentions how much he loves courtly intrigue, and if you ask where he saw that, he says something to the effect of, "Erm, ah, well, um...FADE! Definitely fade!"
Of course it was. 
Haha well I figured out why I didn't get the achievement... I was offline XD There has to be some reason why we get the romance achievement after Solas "breaks up" with Lavellan. I'm guessing it's because it's not truly over, in some shape or form.
Also, does anyone know the name of the music that plays when removing the vallaslin?

I doubt Solas is lying about seeing all these things in the Fade. It's just that he also saw a lot of them in person.

I wonder what percentage of the dragon age fans are obsessed with this romance. I am hoping that there are enough of us that they will put a good effort into making an expansion.

Personally, I think Lavellan impacted him hard.
When all is said and done, I do believe with all of my being that Solas loves Lavellan. And like what has been said, he cares so deeply about his mistakes he will let go of his own desires to fix them. Can he fix them? Not to the extent he wants, I believe. Will my Lavellan help him at least try? Yes.
They could have been chaste. I haven't made up my mind yet on that. I get the feeling he wouldn't have let her take it that far, but on the other hand, the commentary from other companions really makes me wonder.
