One of my first clues was what he said if you take him to the ball.  He mentions how much he loves courtly intrigue, and if you ask where he saw that, he says something to the effect of, "Erm, ah, well, um...FADE!  Definitely fade!"

Of course it was. ;)

Man, this makes me want to do a rerun in which I take him everywhereee. I totally did not think to take him to the ball.

I haven't found any hints yet, but I'm still in the very very early stages of the game about to go to Val Royeaux.  I'm just flabbergasted that he's not even telling half-truths, it's just flat out lies.

And this breaks my heart all over again for my other Lavellan who romanced him.  Ah well, in a few years she'll get her closure.   :)

This was already mentioned a bit earlier, (edit: and again on this very page, it seems) but it's really glaring if you know enough to notice it:

Lol, I didn't choose that option for the courtly intrigue. It's funny that he's disapproving.

I didn't :( But he was buddy buddy with my inquisitory. I really enjoy Solas' story and I want to explore more but I really can't play a female character (no offense) :(

Why do I picture Mr. Weekes rubbing his hands gleefully together if he ever reads this forum? "Goooood, goooooood, let your feelings fester~"

I could see him collecting the fan tears instead of rubbing his hands. He only likes tea when its made with fangirl tears and has 12 cubes of sugar.

Tis okay. I can't make male avatars so playing males is hard for me.  XD  Poor feminine quizzy.

Oh, and a friend and I are discussing why Solas would dislike the Dalish. Thoughts?

Oh, and a friend and I are discussing why Solas would dislike the Dalish. Thoughts?

Because he sees them as evidence of his failure. He tried to free his people but a thousand years later they're scattered, divided, and clinging to a past that they have no clue about.

Because the Dalish are super arrogant and wrong about their culture.  Anyone outside the clan is looked down upon in contempt. And with Solas being barefaced, he probably didn't have too good an experience with them.

I also don't think it's so much as dislike but pitying. If what Solas hinted at was right. They were all nothing but slaves and completely lost their original culture.

The Dalish are kind of high and mighty, thinking they know how the ancient elves lived. However, they're wrong, and apparently refuse to admit that they may have the wrong idea about their ancient culture.

Maybe it's better for him to get access to some great magic that can give all elves a memory of the past instead of potentially

What what happens if you make an elf without a vallaslin? Is that even possible? I don't remember.

Seveeral reasons really

  • They have forgotten the majority of their culture and what they have regained is falsely read
  • They are insular- while ancient elven culture was little better than that of the Imperium in many ways, Solas does say that they were not isolated from other cultures- they may have looked on them as being lesser but were more knowledgeable about them. The modern Dalish do very little to learn about the human cultures around them, and very little to learn about the non-human cultures around them.
  • They have the same sense of superiority ancient elves did without the magic and technology their ancestors possessed to back up the attitude.
  • They still view themselves as slaves, same with the city elves- they have truly lost hope that the past will be recovered but they aren't moving forward either with the possibled exception of the Inquisitor, and a Dalish Warden both of whom come from rather unusual clans. If you listen to the "Tale of the Dales" in the prologue to DAO for an Dalish Warden.. the attitude is basically. .rebulding a homeland for ourselves failed once.. so why bother.. the humans will only take it away again.
  • Shame that he and the other Ancient Elven Gods failed their people so miserably ..
  • A strong sense of self-loathing because that failure was his fault.

Not possible in Inquisition. You can make them almost invisible, depending on how you colour them, but they're always there.

The Dalish are a childish group of self-absorbed twits that constantly claim to be superior to other elves despite having a terrible grasp of their own history. If they were, in general, to be less self focused and spent more time researching/rebuilding their culture to the best of their ability, and were more open to the opinions or knowledge of others he might have more respect for them. Solas has a lot of knowledge he could share with them, but even if he tried they would not listen.

That said I do like the Dalish and have a good respect of their resolve, granted I think they could apply it in much better ways.

Eh, I definitely think it's dislike. I get the feeling he hasn't been awake for too long. During his time awake he would have tried to speak with other elves, and upon he would have seen how they had everything wrong and were unwilling to take his advice he moved into dislike. I never once got a sense of pity from him. He's more than a little arrogant.
