What what happens if you make an elf without a vallaslin? Is that even possible? I don't remember.

no I don't think you can, You can change the visibility though, so it can be really faint.

Because he sees them as evidence of his failure. He tried to free his people but a thousand years later they're scattered, divided, and clinging to a past that they have no clue about.

Because the Dalish are super arrogant and wrong about their culture.  Anyone outside the clan is looked down upon in contempt. And with Solas being barefaced, he probably didn't have too good an experience with them.

I also don't think it's so much as dislike but pitying. If what Solas hinted at was right. They were all nothing but slaves and completely lost their original culture.

The Dalish are kind of high and mighty, thinking they know how the ancient elves lived. However, they're wrong, and apparently refuse to admit that they may have the wrong idea about their ancient culture.

Good points! Thank you. :)

Eh, I definitely think it's dislike. I get the feeling he hasn't been awake for too long. During his time awake he would have tried to speak with other elves, and upon seeing how they had everything wrong and were unwilling to take his advice he moved into dislike. I never once got a sense of pity from him. He's more than a little arrogant.

Well he is a "god".  Of course he's arrogant.  :P

Do I get bonus stuff with Solas if I'm a male elf? My canon was a human mage.

Define "bonus stuff"

**If you mean boning a god. Sadly not, tis reserved for the female elves.

***Though I'm usually down for some male on male action, but I just can't see that with Solas. . .

Yup. You can talk to him about elfy stuff if you're Dalish. You won't get the romance scenes, obviously. Not quite sure how much of his content is tied to romance and how much of it is not, since I've only played as a female elf.

You know, before Inquisition I really didn't give a hoot about the Dalish and thought that they were annoyingly self-righteous at best and hypocritical at worst. My canon Warden was an elf mage who identified much more with mages than with elves. In DA2 I liked Merrill, but thought she was alarmingly naive.

But surprisingly, all of the revelations about how wrong the Dalish have been about...everything has rather endeared me to them. They're actually quite tragic, almost post-apocalyptic. They're trying to hold onto an identity that they believe ties them to the past, but everything that they were so proud of has turned out to be wrong. It's as if in a thousand years we all worshiped broken televisions because we knew that people once gathered around them for long periods of time.

Going forward, I hope my Inquisitor is able to help them forge a new identity, one that encompasses all elves, and lets them be proud of who they are now, and not who they used to be.

Not that I want them to abandon their history either, but perhaps guide them to be more rigorous in questioning their beliefs and preconceptions.

It is kind of like the "Stealing Independence" quest in Fallout 3 where almost everything Abraham Washington tells you about the great historical documents like the Magna Carta and the Declaration of Independence is horribly wrong but you don't want to tell him because if he knew how wrong he was it would break his heart since history is his life.. The Dalish except for Keeper Abelas and his people have no idea how wrong they are and as obsessed as the Dalish are with the past it would probably destroy them to realize their society destroyed itself

If Solas/Fen'Harel really did lock away the gods for their own good/the good of the people, I can't imagine that those who truly and fervently believed in the system would just be okay with that. It leaves plenty of reason for them to come up with such nasty tales about him and why he's a horrible trickster god, instead of a god of rebellion.

If I remember correctly, the Dalish were founded by the Noble families of the Dales after the Exalted March. However...

People are always joking about what we can romance. We need some dwarves, an albino qunari, a broodmother, etc but who ever thought they would let us romance a god?

They definitely opened an interesting can of worms by allowing us to romance Solas. It makes me wonder why they decided to make him romancable... not that I'm complaining X) they did an awesome job.

I'll forever be glad about how Bioware chose to handle the Fen'harel thing. Everyone was expecting him to be some sort of evil mastermind, or at the very least a Loki analogue. But I adore how...human he is. It's a great twist, and one that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about Dragon Age lore. Solas does that to me a lot.   First with spirits and demons, then with the Fade, now with Elven mythology and history. He's amazing.

Well they're gonna have to suck it up because my Inquisitor is dragging them kicking and screaming into the present, while hopefully preventing her boyfriend from doing something that they're all going to regret. She's got a busy schedule.

Also, I love how after all this she's still technically fulfilling her duties as a Keeper's First. After all, little by little she's been showing Solas that the Dalish might not be a lost cause. Perhaps she'll be able to protect her clan from the Dread Wolf after all. And then proceed to make out with him~

The nice thing is that not all the clans are xenophobic or resistant to change. From what I remember because of their split nature each has essentially developed very differently, and the Lavellan for the most part seemed almost liberal in their practices - except for the whole issue with that one war table mission. So it can be done. Might have issues with the clans who have devolved into little more than bandits or isolationists in the forests though.

Yeah. I imagine her using her influence as the Inquisitor to call all the clans together, for the first time in a very long time, and then trying to hammer out some changes. It probably won't be easy, but it'll be worth it in the long run. Because one of the biggest issues with the Dalish is that they aren't actually united.

It's possible that originally there wasn't a misinterpretation. It's only after the fall of the Dales that elves started tattooing their faces in honour of the the Creators and after the loss of their homeland there would be a need for something to bind people together. Something which is also a statement of what they are like tattoos that say “We are the Dalish: keepers of the lost lore, walkers of the lonely path. We are the last of the Elvhenan and never again shall we submit.”.

I'm not going to get into the Exalted March that one's been been done to death but afterwards there would be a displaced populous and their choice is go and be part of human society or don't. Those who chose don't needed purpose beyond eeking out a living from the land continuing the work the Dales started by searching for glues to the past is giving them that, tattooing the symbol of elven gods is both defiance and promise to not give in.

I think some smooth-talker got a bit clever with their interpretation of old relics and sold the idea to whatever leadership remained after the fall. But even if they didn't it's understandable that the first few generations of elven Tevinter slaves became nostalgic and the old days started to seem not so bad. Those were the stories that got past down.

By the way, in game you actually gain approve by helping elf. Think he just dont like their attitude towards many things

So, I was thinking about this, and I don't know if it's been talked about (probably, since you guys pick up on so much more than I do) orrrr if it's stupid, but I was thinking maybe the Elven gods (or "gods," whatever they may be) were the ones that made the elves slaves, and with all the talk of them being as bad as Tevinter, maybe their cruelty was what caused Solas/Fen'Harel to lock them away?  Unless they've already said that straight out, and my revelations are just me remembering stuff that was actually said before.  It wouldn't be the first time.  :D Or if they've already said stuff that would contradict that, in which case... Back to lurking...

Abelas said they were wrong about the locking away, that *specifically* Mythal was murdered.  So what's really the truth.
