It works for my mage, since she is kind of a daydreamer anyway. She's the kind that gets punished into balancing an apple on her head by her Keeper, just so that she concentrates for once, haha. But she's a nice girl. Always positive, loves to prank people if it's fun. She's a sunshine, just...not really all that concentrated on her tasks.

I really like his character however I don't know if the romance got more explanation as to what his involvement with Corypheus was because I feel like I didn't get anything. Any theories out there? I refused to do his romance because that cliffhanger was a sin, not putting my Inquisitor through that yet. Also did he kill Flemeth? So many questions Solas!!!!

Bringing up a topic from several pages back because I had a thought on it.

About the Solas/Flemeth merger and whose "in charge" of that body now....I'm assuming the "conversation" Cole has with Solas if you go talk to him after the epilogue takes place after the epilogue scene - just because that's the order we see it. Could be wrong on that, but if it does, that would imply that Solas is still Solas, for the most part.

That's my theory.

Morrigan's sister calls her foolish and says what Flemeth offers is a gift.  That and how the well works and what Flemeth says to Morrigan suggests to me that Flemeth passes on the sum of her knowledge and by extension, her goals.  So Solas probably just now knows everything about what happened while he was inactive, how she saved the warden and Hawke, and now has a strange desire to avenge Mythal.

He is Fen'Harel. Tho is also seems like everything the Dalish believe about Fen'Harel is wrong - not a trickster god who imprisoned the others for a laugh, but the god of rebellion, who imprisoned them because he thought that would be what's best for the elves. Then he woke up thousands of years later to find out that ended up harming his people instead, so he wants to fix his mistake.

 

He gave the orb to Corypheus because he was too weak to power it up again. The orb was the key to the Eluvian he sealed the other gods in, so now that it's been destroyed, he can't. tho we all think that the power is now in the Inquisitor, so he'll have to come back for the Inquisitor someday.

 

It's up for debate whether he "killed" flemeth by taking mythal's power from her, or if he willingly let Mythal into his body (thus "killing" flemeth's body) - but the assumption is that whichever happened, he did as part of his attempt to find a new way to release the old gods.

I thought the Hahren-Dalen dialogue was great. I keep wishing Cole would comment on it. "Hahren. The taste of the word on her lips, and the feel of yours upon hers. She wants to say it while you're in the bedroom. But she's afraid you'll think she's a child. You called her Dalen. But she isn't a child. You should let her say it."

I was speaking in very generalized terms. An argument could be made either way. What's true is it was likely a combination of many things that led to the downfall of the elves. Locking away a group of people with enough power to at least make a difference, if not stop it completely, surely didn't help the situation.

Solas, at least, has seen his error and apparently holds enough guilt that his efforts are to reverse what he did.

Of course when the others do get out of their prison there will be a terrible price to pay- and that will fall on his head.

I'm thinking rescue mission!

Solas is the elven god Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf or trickster god who locked away the other elven gods behind eluvians because they were becoming tyrannical. He then apparently went into Uthenera, the twilight sleep. When he woke up (possibly because Merill and elves in the novel The Masked Empire were fiddling with eluvians), he found that he was too weak to regain his old power. He tells you in the mountain camp after Haven that the elven gods kept some of their power locked in orbs, and his was dead. In a bid to try to re-awaken it, he took it to Corypheus. In his dialogue about Corypheus, it seems clear that he didn't believe a Tevinter magister could actually wield the orb, and that he believed in attempting to do so, the orb would be kickstarted and Corypheus would be killed- two birds with one stone. This didn't happen, however- the Breach happened. In the attempt to crack open the Fade, the Herald blunders in and grabs the orb, taking some of its power. The mark functions like a key. Corypheus had lost his way to open and close the Fade. He wants to repeat what the magisters did before when they assaulted the Golden City. The mark allows the Herald to open and close doors to the Fade and to survive physically there, which was what he was after. Now he has to find some other way to do it.

Meanwhile, Solas is trying to fix what he did. He figures out that the Inquisitor has been changed somehow in the Breach and is the only chance of closing it, so he stays to help. His ultimate purpose, however- I think- is to bring back at least some of the elven gods. He sees what not having their gods has done to the elves, and that it's a case of "can't live with you, can't live without you." The orb is finally destroyed in the final battle, however, and even though by then he must realize that the mark came from his orb, he won't bind a mortal to his purpose like the other gods are wont to do. So he has to find another way. Mythal, who lives on in Flemeth, agrees to give him her power so that he can accomplish his goal (and probably for her own reasons, to accomplish her revenge on the ones who murdered her).

I think at some point he's going to realize he does need the Inquisitor, though. The mark is a key, and Morrigan tells us that keys are needed to open and close eluvians. The Inquisitor doesn't just have any key- it's his key. Expansion setup, I hope. Some will want revenge on him for his role in opening the Breach and deceiving you all along. Those of us poor sods who had a PC in a romance with him will want to find him for other reasons. So I hope we get a DLC similar to Witch Hunt, with some closure.

when we can kiss him. I thought it was the one moment which initiated a romance but apparently an actual choice appears later (with a heart icon and a broken heart icon). So, my question is: if my Inq doesn't kiss him but picks the second choice - does he kiss her? Or does the romance automatically fails?

They were so perfect together, even if Solas warned her several times that it was a bad idea and wouldn't end well. I'm not sure who did this cutscene, but this was amazing, and heartbreaking. The way they look at each other, you can really feel just how much they care about each other, experience the shift from deep affection to resolve, disarray and pain.

 

And now I need answers! Why isn't he honest with her? Why can't they be together? Gosh, I still have some side quests left unfinished so I'm trying hard not to rush to the end for that, but it's so hard not to have some kind of resolution.

Probably party dialogue between my party would be like this:

Solas: Those are from the ancient time, when legends about Elven Empire were spreading across all Thedas.

Lavellan: This one looks suspiciously like you.

Solas: Me? Is that how you see me - as a warrior with shield and sword, who is ready to stand for what he believes in?

Lavellan: *blushes* Yeap! *murmurs to herself* Almost. I see you naked too.

Dorian: True. That bald head shines almost the same way as yours.

Solas: As facinating as ancient art is, let's move on, we have to accomplish important things in this area.

Iron Bull: Yeah, like killing that big flying turkey over there...

*Bull and Solas venturing forth, Dorian and Inquisitor are still staring at the stone*

Lavellan: So... are you thinking the same thing as I am?

Dorian: Only If you are questioning if there is any magical mambo-jambo that can let us take this to Skyhold.

I agree to what you said regarding the first and last romance scene. But...

The second one has Lavellan walking over to him, clearly stepping into his comfort zone. I believe she would have kissed him first, but he tried to walk away. She stopped him and then he's like "But losing you would..." cue epic kiss scene.

The simple fact of the matter is that whether he is planning to free the gods of the Elves and destroy the remaining Forgotten Ones, or simply to destroy all the gods he is marching off to war.. and ultimately he may have to sacrifice himself in order to put the world right.. we have seen in DAII and DAI that spirits can die. Justice dies when Anders is killed by Hawke (if your Hawke killed Anders), and Solas kills Wisdom to save her from life trapped as a Pride Demon. If the gods are merely higher order spirits than they can die.. if they are the ancient leaders and heroes of the elven people they can also die because the elves lost their immortality when the Imperium struck the killing blow on their society and they were killed and enslaved by humans-- meaning it can be assumed that even the Ancient elves could be slain by disease, or serious injuries.. What is more cruel- to break up with her now- when he knows that both of them could be in terrible danger, or to take her with him, and force her to watch him sacrifice himself for the greater good (or bad) of all life on Thedas (more specifically elves but by reversing his mistake he would also be effectiving humans and qunari, and dwarves)
