This is the new rogue Lavellan that I made for my next run romancing Solas of course. I can't wait to see what she looks like in the romance scenes. I am thinking it's going to be hard to pick between her and my mage Lavellan for the canon version.
If the situation came between killing Solas or having my Lavellan die (and/or lose the game)... call me dramatic, but I'd pick the latter . I just don't like the idea of killing any companion (let alone a love interest). I couldn't kill Anders, either.
I don't think they'd ever make us kill him. I could see a, "he dies or you die" thing happening tho. At which point my Lavellan would just let him kill her.
All of this speculation about how we might have to kill Solas is making me feel kind of sick. I...really don't know what I'd do in that situation. Probably put the game down and never play it again.
Unfortunately, I'm already getting a chance to experience that now.
And it's why I've been putting off "Here Lies The Abyss" for so long.
Spoiler
I've adored Loghain for 5 years now. Enough that I actually had a (currently abandoned thanks to real life) fanfic pairing him with my city elf Warden (because I love a good bit of irony). But I know I can't sacrifice this Hawke I imported because it would destroy poor Varric and leave Anders a widower. So I'm literally having to make the decision to kill Loghain for the greater good... after sparing him twice (Landsmeet, Archdemon) in DAO.
I'm literally nauseous working my way through this quest.
Really? I haven't gotten any hostile banter with Dorian and Solas yet. They had an interesting one on the orbs. Yeah okay, Solas did get a barb in there- "the humans took a lot of things from the elves."
Viv and Solas, definitely. Especially when Cole is there. To me he doesn't sound weary, though- in fact I think he likes a good fight now and again, especially when he's so sure he's right.
It's in the Shrine of Sylaise in the Enchanted Plains. I put him in that set as soon as I get it and he wears it the rest of the game.
Eh, I'd call them heated more than hostile. He seems as heated with Dorian regarding Tevinter slavery and binding spirits (two things Solas reeeeeally hates) as he is with Bull when discussing the Qun. At least, in the banters I've gotten.
Is the consensus that he was a noble powerful mage? I know he said he believed the ancient gods were "mages, or spirits, or something else you've never seen.." I like the idea that they're not *just* mages and are something more interesting than that. What do you all think?
Spoiler
I can see it going either way. He does seem to be particularly touchy about those who would pretend to be gods- which to me seems to imply that he might have been guilty of it in the past. I have a feeling that the upper echelons of old elven society may have controlled the people by claiming godhood. And they might not have been terribly far off- compared to the average lay person, they would have been gods. We have no idea what went on, but once you involve religion with control you can get immense amounts of power abuse. Ancient elves might have been a series of rival cults.
But he could also be something ancient. Even if he is though, he isn't a 'true' god in the sense that the Maker is purported to be. Solas even seems to be curious about the possibility of a maker. Then there's also his greatest fear- the fear of dying alone is not really the fear that one might think a 'god' would have. It is a very mortal fear, even if he's immortal.

Ugh. Same here x_x I don't think he'll be an antagonist though. Doesn't really make sense. I think we'll have the option to help him

She's cute! This is my first Lavellan, Ellana the mage- I liked the default name:
Spoiler
I made a second Lavellan- Aderyn (a rogue). I looked up Welsh names and it meant "bird". I thought it was a fitting name . Her looks are loosely inspired by Liv Tyler (I wanted a nice looking long face). She's also going for Solas, ha.

He totally gets heated in some of them. A few of them he just sounds tired though. The way he says that he doesn't think mages should be allowed to break the law in one of them sounded tired to me. And the banter about what he'd do differently has some lines where it just seems like he's weary of dealing with Vivienne.
The last dragon in Emprise du Lion has it! It's... level 23, I think? It's also the only fire dragon of the three (the other two are ice), IIRC.
I made Solas an orange version of the fancy elf robes with the schematic. o:
Yup, level 23 fire dragon. I denied Solas the best quality armor to make him armor that he has on in that one picture used for all the banter videos. Sorry, Solas, but you aren't running off with my dragon materials. Cole got those.

There's one banter where Dorian says he's trying to make peace and Solas stonewalls him. There's another where Dorian apologizes for Arlathan and Solas again stonewalls him. Dorian tries and gets shut down and not in an impassioned way but more of an "I don't want to deal with you, child" way. They aren't debating, Solas just won't hear what Dorian has to say.
The banter is amazing in this game- I feel bad for those who are having trouble hearing it. I did the whole playlist on my iphone and just let it play through as I drove around doing errands the other day. I was dying laughing sometimes. I love how Cassandra teases Iron Bull- how some of them are so gentle with Cole, how Cole and Solas drive everyone crazy. How Sera, Iron Bull and Blackwall get along.
I just love it, and I highly suggest everyone listen to all of them because it really gives deeper insight to the companions, especially the ones I don't take with me regularly.
Dorian and Viv are hilarious as is Viv and Varric.

Completely agree! It explains a lot of his motivations and comments on slavery, corruption and power abuse.

I´ve been looking for the schematics for that armor Solas wears in the poster, can´t seem to find it
Cassandra is really open minded. I wasn't expecting that from her but she's willing to give alternate ideas a fair chance, even if they conflict with what she believes. Cole probably needs the guidance. Vivienne is set in her ways and won't hear any alternate ideas, which makes for some interesting banter. The banters I've gotten between Solas and Viv have him sounding so weary. And he's pretty hostile to Dorian, even when Dorian is trying to smooth things over, which is interesting to me. Apparently the Tevinter slavery thing makes him completely unwilling to listen. Especially because Solas seems to think that just ending slavery is possible and that collapsing Tevinter's economy won't have more effects than just freeing slaves. He really doesn't seem to get ripple effects.
Dorian's banter is my favourite banter, but there is one particular one with Solas that I just loved:
Dorian: Ah, Solas, you startled me. You're always so... nondescript.
Solas: Please speak up. I cannot hear you over your outfit.
I love those two so much more than I thought possible of video game characters...
I can't find it either, I just know it's Battlemage mail.. it's driving me nuts!
It's not sold by a merchant, as far as I know (it's not in my guide, anyway), so it's completely up to chance whether or not you get it from a chest or something. I really want it too...

Nice Vallaslin!
Spoiler
Those are Mythal's, correct? I wonder -- if you drink from the well and wear her Vallaslin, do you think Quizzie should be more or less inclined to remove them? I supposed Flemythal might have bigger things to worry about though. I also wonder if removing the Vallaslin is a unique power to Solas, since he's the god of rebellion. Fen'Harel the unwaking, father of wolves, breaker of chains.

Re Loghain:

I like to think that if anyone can survive the Fade, it's him. There are so many times he should have died and he's still hanging around (especially once you read the books). I like to think that Mythal was all, "gotta grab that guy" and rescued him. Though the poor guy would probably welcome death in all honesty. How many times has he been denied a glorious end?

Re: God Status
Spoiler
I agree - they're not "Maker" level gods. I like to think that they were more than powerful mages though. Even Corypheus had to kill hundreds of slaves to get into the Fade during round 1. The ancient elves made a whole new tiny world in the Fade -- and that world still works a thousand of years later without any maintenance. The ancient magisters - powerful as they were - worshiped the Old Gods. I imagine the elven gods are on that same level - mortal and corruptible but still apart from regular mages.
A conversation with Dorian in Haven caught me by surprise on run #2. He said something about mages vs. the common people, and that the belief that commoners could be mages is what kept them in check. I wonder if a similar thing happened in ancient Arlathan.

Which might be a reason he hates Dorian so much. Tevinter seems exactly like a bad copy of Arlathan. Everything that he was fighting against (slavery, oligarchy, binding of spirits for personal gain), with none of the beauty that came from elven magic and a connection to the Fade. Dorian is fighting against some of that, but even he admits that he didn't see anything wrong with slavery before he came to Ferelden (and doesn't ever really outright admit that it's wrong). Solas shouldn't be a jerk to him generally, but I can see how he'd project his anger about Tevinter onto the only Tevinter mage running around

What's the armor/schematic called that he has on in the pictures? And where can you get it, if you know?
Someone told me it was in the Fallow Mire, and that you can loot it off the Avvar chief-ton's son, but I never got it. I can't find it in stores either.

I am going to make her remove it because I like the idea of Solas making her naked. hahahahaha

Edit: read the other posts, damn
In two playthroughs I didn't get it once...
Battlemage mail with battlemage mail arms and nothing in the leg slot. I think I found the schematic in the Emerald Graves, so that's probably level 15-16 content for the drop.
Also, I really want the Warden armor..

The regular Warden armor is a random drop. There's a purple that drops off a dragon (one of each armor class named for the Grey Warden motto). I believe you can buy schematics for it from the Dalish in Exalted Plains.

That makes a lot of sense. Dorian is also... not wholly effective as a rebel. I wonder if it's because he can't see any other way or if he sees the complications from doing something like ending slavery (pretty sure a dev confirmed that Tevinter's economy would collapse if they just up and freed all the slaves).

I found it a little shocking It would rather fit with the trickster god image of Fen'Harel, not much of a rebellion here. But then, the second you ask about it, everything trickster-ish vanishes into thin air and the only excuse he can come up with is "Err... FADE!" ...Huh?!?
Solas was drunk as hell at the Winter Palace. For real. He even remarks upon how the servants are more than happy to keep refilling his glass. LOL
