It does bring to wonder. What if he was there, at the Conclave?  He was obviously close by.  Just how close.

If you listen to his dialogue in the romance, he does mention that he noticed Lavellan... from the Fade.  So he may have been at the same tavern as Varric, but it seems Lavellan somehow woke him up (or the Inquisitor in general, but this only gets said for a romance).  How long precisely has he watched her, I wonder?  The way it's worded, it makes me think he had feelings for her before they even met.  If that's the case, then trying to keep her at arm's length when she very much wanted him, too, must have been agonizing.

Just switching from female to male dalish, he does seem a lot nicer to females.   Or that's headcanon but that's the impression I've gotten.

SWEET MOTHER OF GOD

I like to think my Inquisitor wasn't completely blind, that she knew something was up.  She'd have to, considering how reluctant he was to be romanced, and how much he knew that he spoke of as if he knew it personally.  But since he'd never betrayed her, and since she trusted him, well... she didn't pry too much.  Just let him tell his stories.

Terrwyn was the same way. Solas was always saying how their relationship could lead to trouble, how it would be better in the long-run if he just left. Then, she got hints that he was lying about how he knew these things. But she was training to be Keeper, and she's rational to the point where she forgets to feel at times, and then she always puts others before herself. Those things didn't earn her many friends, and with being an agent and then the leader of the Inquisition...damnit, Terrwyn just wanted to be selfish for once in her life. So when Solas

Spoiler
she was angry, but she just crossed her arms and said quietly "we all make mistakes." She knew it wouldn't last. She knew Solas wanted...needed to do something...and she never pried because that wall wasn't hers to break. If and when it comes to finding out who and what Solas is, her composure will shatter, but you can darn-diddly bet she will not let him go to travel that road alone. It's her culture too, one she aches to learn about if only her duties didn't constantly get in the way.

I'm redoing her PT - I wanted a different vallaslin, and some choices I made didn't fit her. I honestly still can't decide if:

How so? I'm still finding it hard to run my other characters, so don't have any experience in his attitude for inquisitors of other races or gender. :P

But because of who he is, and what happened in the end, we can probably forget any further romance--maybe an official end to it from Solas himself, but that'll be all we get.  He wanted Lavellan to know that it was real, that he does love her, but... they can't be together.  He's right about that.  They are too far apart in power, and Lavellan remains mortal.  If she'd been an immortal elf, I think he would have gone for it despite all that.  But, she isn't.  So he didn't.  But the way he ended it was particularly cruel.  He was obviously letting his emotions get the better of him, because he knew all along that it was going to hurt her.  He warned her.  I think he wanted so much more than just a few kisses--yeah, Solas, I saw that butt grope you did during that kiss... don't think I didn't see it.  But again, bad plan, so he didn't.

But he doesn't seem particularly immortal or godlike during the game. I think his power was all bound up in the orb. Plus, I have a feeling that the elves' immortality is tied to Uthenera. So you can either live in the real world, grow old, and die, or you can sacrifice your connection to the world and dream for eons, discovering truths about the Fade and telling them to supplicants who come to you in your dreams.

Not saying that you're wrong, but I think his breaking up with Lavellan has little to do with, "I am an immortal and you are moral, thus we cannot be together" and more with whatever he's planning.

(For anyone who wants Professor Solas, again, I can't recommend HPMOR.com enough. Professor Quirrell club will only grow. :) )

I am playing a human Inquisitor now - exploring being friends with Solas. And I've played his first quest, Measuring the Veil in the Hinterlands, again, and I found some new stuff. Most of you have probably seen it, but still:

- when you meet the elven lady, and talk to her after you agree to help her, you ask her what she's doing here. She says something about researching for her clan(I think it connects to the Masked Empire somehow, but I haven't read that far into the book), and Solas sharply says "Ma harel, da'len", which translates "You lie, child/You're tricking us, young woman". Note that Harellan = Trickster.

- when you approach the rocks you're supposed to energize, wait for a few seconds, and if Solas is in the party, the elven lady would suggest "Your flat-ear could do it". Solas, sounding faintly amused, replies "Ma nuvenin, da'len" - "as you say, child".

And as for Solas soundtrack, I'm REALLY surprised no one's ever suggested

Spoiler

EDIT: Also, a thought: Ar lasa mala revas. No one has ever translated it, right? What if it translates as "I give you freedom"?

I got that too. It was for multiple reasons: he couldn't get swept up in the romance, he has responsibilities, she has responsibilities, his pride and guilt won't let him walk away from what he's done, and plus that fear of what she may think if he tells her who and what he is. But the main reason is what you said: he is planning something.

I played a F!Qunari, a male and female Lavellan back to back one day and yeah, there's a difference I think. It feels like you get less openings with him as a Qunari (not sure if this applies to humans and dwarves as well) and as a male it's just a bit more impersonal, but the dialogues aren't terribly different. I think F!Lavellan being able to flirt with Solas a bit is a huge ice breaker in terms of getting comfortable with his character.

When the devs said that Solas' romance made super story sense, I figured it was because there was a prior connection there, so the idea that he knew of her (or noticed her) from the Fade (maybe he saw her at the conclave, who knows) or even before that would make sense to me (or rather I'd like for it to be that way because headcanons).

If that's not it, then I suspect it'll make more sense in DLC or an expansion. Because as it stands right now, a Solasmance isn't that groundbreaking in regards to the story.

Actually...why do elves call him a flat-ear? What kind of insult is that?

Just hard for me to understand why an elf would insult another elf that way and what it implies...

Hmm I know that the Dalish call City Elves flat ears
She probably assumes Solas is from the City because he has no Vallaslin
But I don't know what it means either :/

It's just that he mentioned before that other Dalish have called him that as well. I was really surprised and confused. Seems like such a waste to insult your own kin when your kind is in such a bad way situation-wise.

For the elvish:

Lasa and mala don't have a meaning that we've been given. But, revas is definitely freedom. I would say that's an accurate translation.

I'm curious if lasa and mala are singular, or contractions: la'sa and ma'la...

I need more elvish dictionaries! :( I'm so sad so much was lost.

Why does Lavellan never question why he knows so much ancient elven?

Found it on the wiki:

I was remaking Cari for my completionist playthrough (which will, of course, be Solasmance again with the same character) and I realized how much better this hairstyle looks on women than men!

I didn't end up keeping it, but still!  :D

Also, Solas says that he noticed Lavellan from the Fade? I don't remember that. Then again, if he said it during a romance scene I'm sure I was too busy swooning to notice.  ;)
