But he doesn't seem particularly immortal or godlike during the game. I think his power was all bound up in the orb. Plus, I have a feeling that the elves' immortality is tied to Uthenera. So you can either live in the real world, grow old, and die, or you can sacrifice your connection to the world and dream for eons, discovering truths about the Fade and telling them to supplicants who come to you in your dreams.

Not saying that you're wrong, but I think his breaking up with Lavellan has little to do with, "I am an immortal and you are moral, thus we cannot be together" and more with whatever he's planning.

That would make sense why he was so obsessed with the orb... and with it destroyed, maybe he was dying....  would make sense if it was flemeth who possessed him to save him....

Ohohoh, are you in for a suprise. Just wait :OOO

I've already beaten the game, and tbh I don't see how the romance in and of itself is groundbreaking in terms of making 'super story sense'. Any Lavellan could form a deep relationship with Solas and accomplish the same things (excluding the romance part) and have the same impact IMO. So as much as I love the romance, I just don't see it unless their relationship directly impacts the story in a more significant way.

I guess my point is that as I see it, it didn't have to be a female Lavellan for it to make super story sense based on what we were given in-game. At least it didn't feel like that to me.

I'll give you that it didn't have to be female. I think any race would work for Solas forming a connection to the present but an elf creates a connection to the race he no longer sees as his people, which is more relevant for him. Basically, his personal issues with the present day elves makes a romance with an elf more significant for Solas's story.

Edit: Because I feel compelled to explain myself: I don't think it makes a huge difference but it does make a difference.

Also, Solas says that he noticed Lavellan from the Fade? I don't remember that. Then again, if he said it during a romance scene I'm sure I was too busy swooning to notice.  ;)

It's in the final romance scene. He says "In all of Thedas, I never expected to find someone who could draw my attention from the Fade."

How he says it leaves it a little ambiguous (seems a common trend when it comes to Solas, lol) as to if he means you drew his attention away from the Fade, or if he was in the Fade when you drew it.

*nod* Fair enough. I definitely understood why he was race gated after I played, so I think my issue was that when I read that tweet I saw story as being the story as a whole as opposed to just his personal route. I do think the way it ended leaves it open for it to mean more plot-wise too, though. It'd certainly be interesting to see!

It's possible they meant in the context of Solas's personal story rather than the main plot although since we're bound to see more of him in the future, that may change.

Ah, that's the line you mean. I read that as you were the only one who could take his mind away from Fade studies and being preoccupied with the Fade. I don't think he literally meant that he saw you from the Fade.

Okay, I'm still over 100 pages behind, catching up after finishing my 100+ hour first playthrough, but I thought I'd share.

Solas' romance is, by far, the best romance I have experienced in a game. Period. It was so beautifully tragic; it felt like a sad fairytale. I honestly can't believe that the elf race and Solas' romance were added later. Having romanced him, I feel as though the best way to play the game is to play and elf and romance Solas.

And that scene after the credits? Blew my mind; my mouth was literally hanging open. But I seriously need some closure. I'm really hoping for an expansion/dlc in the near future that follows up with Solas (and his Lavellan), because you can't just leave my heart broken like that Weekes! I don't know if anyone else was thinking this (as I'm still pretty far behind in the thread) but considering only a romanced Solas will have the more positive tarot card, do you think that maybe the only way to steer him off his path, or something, is to romance him? I'd really like that from a story perspective, but I dunno how limiting that would be for players, considering the amount who would have romanced him.

I made my quizzy a mage, which I think was the best story-wise. I can't get over how beautifully ironic it is that the a Dalish First, who is responsible for

Also, just letting you know I named my elf Hana Lavellan after the heartwrenchingly beautiful Japanese movie 'Wolf Children'. Keep in mind I had no idea about any spoilers going into the game...yeah, if anyone has seen that movie they might know what I was feeling after finishing the game and seeing the parallels! Such a crazy, heartbreaking coincidence.

Anyway, I'll leave you with a pic of my Hana Lavellan ^_^

Maybe I can help with that.. or not lol

I play the French version and the word they use to translate "from" was really the one that would mean he was in fact, IN (within) the Fade when he noticed her. Which I found very odd at first   Because I also, was under the impression that he meant she was the only one who could take his mind from his studies of the Fade. But then I watched the English version and found it pretty ambiguous too. So I thought it was a mistake in the translation. But when I discovered the truth about Solas' real identity, it made perfect sense to me. It seems the French translators did it right after all.

Plus, knowing Bioware's propension to details, I can't imagine the translators would do such a grotesque mistake. I'm confident they contacted the writer to avoid any mistake of that sort. I hope so at least...

Pfft.

Varric: *accuses Solas of always mentioning the veil.

Solas: I don't always mention the veil.

Everyone Else: Lies.

*later*

Solas: *mentions the veil.

Varric: See, told ya.

It's official.
I'm going to have to play an elf lady some point soon. I'm nowhere near finishing the game but the intriguing elf is definitely worthy of a closer look.

I think that's really interesting! Even after beating the game I thought he meant that I was the only one who could distract him from learning, because like... wow, that's either a heck of a slip for Solas, or it implies he was napping while the conclave went on. But with what you say about the French version definitely makes me question his meaning a bit more.

Out of curiosity I checked the german version, and it's the same as the english one
As cute as it would be if he was in the fade, I think he really just means that you attracted his attention outside of the fade

I'm not sure I hold the truth though...

But didn't one mention that Fen'Harel was "waking up" and too weak to use the Orb and that would explain why he gave the Orb to Corypheus?

Ok I have a headache now lol! XD

If this version is correct, that means the French translators did a very bad and obvious mistake  <_<

Nevertheless, with either version, we still got the point that Lady Lavellan was someone utterly important to him and I think that's what matters

As sweet as it would be, I'm inclined to agree with this, if it translates to in rather than from then there's no change really.

One thing I don't get is - if you sided with the mages and go into the future, Solas is captured. If he truly is the Dread Wolf how could he allow himself to be captured like that. Also if Corphy did manage to defeat him you would think he wouldnt allow Solas to live, or would at least have a better prison (i mean look at Corphys prison!)

On another note. Did anyone have the banter where Blackwall asked Solas if any spirits are more than just friends?

Blackwall: So Sera and I were talking and we needed you to settle a question for us

Solas: Seras involved so its going to be offensive

Blackwall: Yes probably. You meet spirits in the fade, are any of them more than just friends if you know what I am saying

Solas: Oh for.... seriously?

Blackwall: Its a natural thing to be curious about

Solas: For a 12 year old

Blackwall: Yes or no

Solas: Fade is complicated

Blackwall: Haha so you do

Solas: I didn't say that

Blackwall: Don't worry your secret is safe

Solas: Ass

Blackwall: Whos 12 now

Literally died laughing

I was just fantasizing  thinking about Solas guiding Lavellan through the Fade... and then I imagined them in The Phantom of the Opera, with Solas breaking out into song about the wonders that await her:

Just finished the game last night and I had decided to romance Solas. A brutal but brilliant romance. I just wished I didn't have the banter bug, No one acknowledged the romance and couldn't get Cole's dialogue. I'm happy this thread had all the stuff I missed.

I have not posted since the ME3 ending drama, swore not do do it again. Then the Solas-Romance came along...

Out of curiosity, did anyone choose the deeper American voice when creating their Levallan?

I imagine it would be a bit of a rare pairing, but I would love to hear the voice acting

Spoiler

I did, because I wanted my Lavellan to sound witty, wise, and a bit older than the average Hero in his/her 20's.

PS: Has anyone mentioned Solas default tarot card yet? I would suspect it is from the Suit of Disks, Five of Disks
