You... you are EVIL. And yet... I kind of wish we could have closure like this. Even Solas dying with Lavellan at his side would be better than him just walking off!

 

Also, imagine the emotional implications for him pursuing a romance with Lavellan: he's immortal, but she isn't.

That's really odd.  On both my mage and rogue Lavellans she didn't say anything to Solas at all.  Then again, I never asked him to speak to her, either.

 

I'm playing a rogue, and on the walk from where Mihris was standing over to where the cave was blocked, she said that snippy bit to Solas. I wanted to turn around and smack her. He gave her snippiness back, though.

Someone in the Dread Wolf thread mentioned something that I'd forgotten, all the way through the game he referred to the (ancient) Elves as "my people", in the scene at the end he said "The People" need him, did we..did we change is outlook?

I was thinking about the sequence of what he says and depending on how it goes, it all kind of epitomizes clueless male syndrome. He takes her to a special spot to break up with her, and tells her she's beautiful... right after he alters her face. We know he didn't mean it as a "okay, now you're beautiful" thing, but man, he's not exactly a smooth operator. Of course, that naivete is part of the charm of his character. He can navigate the Fade but doesn't have a map for this, and his analytical mind forms connections that make sense to him but not necessarily to other people.

took her to that spot just to break up with her. I don't think that had been his initial intent at all. To me, it felt like after he had kissed her he sort of...had a realization? He realized things couldn't continue as they were. We don't know why or what brought him to that conclusion at that exact moment. Perhaps he had intended on doing something more, perhaps he looked at her and realized he was about to push the envelope even further and reigned his emotions in. Maybe he saw her and realized he really just wanted to throw it all away to be with her and he had to remind himself(through her) about distracting one from their duties.

 

He could have seriously been debating on staying with her all this time, we don't know one way or the other. And if so, we don't know what made him feel like that wasn't an option any longer. The mark? The fact that Cory almost destroying the world is pretty much a direct result of his actions (although he would have undoubtedly found another way)?

 

It really just feels like we don't have enough information to determine what his initial intentions were beyond what he told our Lavellans when he took them to that spot, which was to tell them to truth and express to them how much they meant to him. And I think that's the point, we're not supposed to know why Solas broke up with Lavellan, but I don't think he took her there for the sole purpose of breaking up. I think one option Lavellen is like "You're my..." and he goes "That is the question, is it not?" Maybe he had intended to answer it, and after that kiss realized he couldn't, at least not the way he would have liked.

 

I don't know, I just feel like his behavior at the end is too inconsistent with everything before that for it to have been planned. Apologies if I seem fussy, I've just seen this accusation come up often and after a lot of thought I just wanted to throw my two cents in.

The question is where or when would Solas even pick up that term for the Dalish? It's also possible that it's an older term that Flemythal is willing to use with current elves because she hasn't been sleeping forever and doesn't see them as having ruined everything ever.

There is not much to find when looking for the bright sight of the card, nevertheless it is a fact that every burning of a forest results in many little sprouts that appear afterwards, having the most fertile ground in the ashes. But of course, the old forest doesn't need to burn down completely - the card can also talk of the worry that it might do so just because it burns somewhere in the near.

Light: Reconsidering of values, managing to get along in hard times

Shadow: Fear, loss, failure, destruction, hindering, unpredictable changes to the bad, worsening circumstances

Sorry for the off-topic question (I didn't want to create a whole new thread just for it) but how/when do you get to Emerald Grove? I just finished the "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" story quest. What is the quest to unlock Emerald Grove called?

 

The Emerald Graves should be available on the map pretty early on, you need 20 power to unlock it. It's near the bottom right of the Orlais side at the war table. There's no quest, it's just a zone you can unlock.

Has anyone elase noticed that at some point of time when you come to Josie's desk, our diplomat is having a conversation with a woman. Josie says something "Solas asked to do that?" I wonder what was his request... As, you know, Solas is not the one who is just asking for stuff, he is the one who knows more tham many could ever imagine. And why not to ask himself and do this request through that woman? What he might even need from our diplomat?

Apparently my fangirling has reached such levels that now my tumblr posts are ending up here. Not sure if I should be proud or ashamed. 

 

I know every companion likely has this idle animation, but the fact that Solas, being what he is, still has a soft spot for animals does many things to my headcanon.

You can see it in his eyes when he pulls away.  His eyes are wide, like he just realized that he is making a terrible mistake.  I think he realized that he intends to do go places where she cannot (or he believes she will not) follow him and doesn't want to cause her worse pain in the future.  I got that from the little conversation he had with Cole, after the credits.  Either that, or he realized he was just thinking about throwing away all he was working for to be with her, and that he needs to do what the people need (I'm guessing the ancient elves), not what he wants.

@WheelObsession graves stones in the fade section in the large area (there are two passeges - one is the right stairs but you can go left near the water, the graveyard near the wall at the end of water, I will try to take a screen shot), there are  gravestones for all companions.

I went back and made a save where I drank from the well, and Solas was furious with me afterwards.  I knew he disapproved of it, but he said that he begged me not to drink from the well.  I honestly do not remember him ever begging me not to.  When I asked the group, he even said that someone needs to take the power from the well.  But he even clearly stated that he didn't trust Morrigan with that power.  Am I missing some dialog?  Did he actually beg anyone else?

This was incredibly disappointing to me. The scenes are beautiful and meaningful, but without any other scenes in between (slice of life type stuff, like nearly everyone else gets) it feels as though the game uses a few scenes to tell us they're together and then make us sad in the end. Even his normal, every-day dialogue is lacking compared to others.

I think/hope/pray that the reason Solas has less content than the other romances is because the inevitable DLC/expansion where you'll meet again. I mean, all the other Quizzies are mostly done with their romantic arcs except breakups, marriage and snuggles etc.

Because of the reasons stated above, we better get lots of content with him in the DLC.

It is interesting that it's after this scene that the romance achievement unlocks. Seriously, what is up with that Bioware? Locking the choice in at the very moment you become available to make any other choice.

 

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to get the achievement after he starts calling Lavellan his heart?

That's a fair point.  I don't believe it was his original intent to break up with her--it just sort of dawned on him that it went too far--but from the perspective of Lavellan, the whole scenario can come off as rather cruel (unintentional as it may be).  I find the "coldhearted son of a b*tch" reaction more justified the more I think about the circumstances of the breakup.  His intentions may have been noble, but the breakup itself is just awful.

 

He first takes her to a secluded area, tells her how important she is, reveals a potentially heartbreaking truth about a part of her culture and appearance, possibly changes her face permanently, "you are perfect"/"you are beautiful", *kiss*, "sorry, I was distracting you from your duty. It will never happen again."

 

Talk about not thinking it through.  I understand that from the perspective of Solas, he's sparing her feelings in the long run.  Still... there are kinder ways to break up with someone (with less mixed messages).
