I think the way forward for the elves of Thedas is something they'll have to create for themselves in the present. Time for them to look to the future instead of grubbing around blindly in the ashes of the past. Time for Dalish clans to unite and work together with City Elves to improve their collective lot. Time for elves in leadership positions - Briala, Lavellan, even Solas, if he pulled his head out his ass - to use their power for the betterment of the elven people.

If she can't talk him down, I hope she can at least defeat him and then have the option of sparing his life.

Yes, yes, yes. A thousand times this. I have felt that way ever since my City Elf Warden back in the day, who thought the way forward was to... well, you know, shockingly enough... move forward.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: ELVES, SOLAS, DALISH, EVERYBODY - YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN. REAL TALK REALITY CHECK.

It sucks. I'm sorry. But there it is. Buck up, put on your big girl panties and big boy britches, and move forward to make something better for your people.

I just got to the quest where Solas directs you to the first elven artifact with my Qunari Inquisitor - the one with the Dalish woman people were talking about earlier, who calls Solas a flat-ear...

He just flat out said, "You lie, child." to her when she was explaining why she was there. I wish I'd been taking screenshots or something to get all the dialogue, but when he went, "Ma harel, da'len." in like... a super stern voice. I was like, "OOOH I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! HE JUST CALLED YOU OUT!"

Now I wonder what it was exactly that he says to her when she tries to take that amulet for herself. That I got a screenshot of, and it was:

"Ma halani, ma glandival. Vir enasalin."

Vir enasalin is like... way/path of joy? I honestly don't know. No clue what halani or glandival stand for either. Grr.

If the Inquisitor calls her out instead of getting Solas to do it, she says "Ma halani. [English words follow]". Pointing this out because the "ma halani" is repeated there as well.

To my knowledge we don't know what halani means. Vir is obviously way/path and ma is my/mine/you.

As for "glandival"... Shartan's sword was Glandivalis. I do not think this is a coincidence. The translation for Glandivalis is unknown. http://dragonage.wik...iki/Glandivalis

Mihris - the Dalish woman - is from The Masked Empire.

Codex entry for enasalin: http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Enasalin

Enasalin means victory

It is, indeed, more complicated than what we believe and see. I go back and forth from "ELVEN GLORY FTW" to "he put them away for a reason, what if they start ******-slapping each other as soon as they wake up?" He did not think sealing them away would impact his culture so dramatically, but bringing them all back, all at once...all that power they hold? It's...frightening to think about. What would happen? Would they finally listen to him, and even my Lavellan, or would they go out and conquer and raise yet another empire under their "godhood"?

NOW I'M BACK TO "KEEP THEM LOCKED UP". 8[

Dude, honestly speaking, I'm severely concerned for Solas's sake (as well as the entire world, too, don't get me wrong). He tricked them, locked them away for eons. I... don't exactly see them "thanking" him for freeing them from the prison in which he entombed them in the first place.

We know they're fickle and feisty. They fought with each other a lot. Some were going mad even before. Who knows if they've gone even madder in their exile.

After opening Pandora's Box... man, I'm really worried they're gonna want to tear him apart for what he did before. Like, literally tear him apart. :(

Sorry if this is a wee off-topic but I had a Lavellan clan question:

Spoiler

I haven't experienced any of my companions referencing the results of this mission yet.  Do they ever?  You'd think your LI (ahem, Solas) would care to comment considering the possible outcomes.

I'm not aware of anyone referencing that outcome of that mission.

^ And yet many of you say you'd help Solas undo what he did, if he only gave you the option to help :P

I've thought about it some and I've come to the conclusion that I don't think unleashing the gods on the world is a good idea.

Side note: I think Solas broke it off with Lavellan for a combination of several different reasons, not one single reason alone. "It's more complicated than that" after all.

Well, we also get a hint that he did it to "save" the elvhen "gods", not to banish them.

Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.
Solas: I know.
Cole: But you could let them go.
Solas: I know that as well.
Cole: You didn't do it to be right. You did it to save them.
Inquisitor: Solas, what is Cole talking about?
Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything.
Cole: You weren't wrong, though.
Solas: Thank you, Cole."

Gosh, the story here is so complex. I love it. xD And until things are cleared up in an expansion, all we have is to ponder the possibilities.

There's a quote from the movie I, Robot, where Will Smith's character tells the scientist chick, "You are the dumbest smart person I know."

I really want to say that to Solas. A lot.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that, even though it's well-meant, this plan of his is a really bad idea.

The ironic thing is that I don't think he was planning to go through with it from the beginning. There was that argument that he has with the Inquisitor where they accuse him of not caring enough about the elves, and he says he just sees no way of helping them, and the problem is just too big and complex for one person to deal with. If you poke him further he angrily says (paraphrased), "alright, just let me collapse the veil so I can casually reshape reality." Now, I'm sure most people thought that was hyperbole but...what if it wasn't? Perhaps, over the course of the game, as he sees just how bad things are for elves and spirits and normal people, he decides that he can't just sit around. He has to do something.

I really hope we get the option to talk him down, because that would tie in so goddamn beautifully with the arc of my Dalish Inquisitor. She respects the past, but as she comes into her own as Inquisitor she realizes that she now has the power to make some real, lasting changes. Even though she's always felt a bit isolated from her clan, she loves her people, and wants them to be proud of what they have and what they can create, rather than what they used to have. She also feels very deeply for the marginalized peoples of Thedas, and sees a lot of similarities between the Dalish, the mages, and the city elves. And throughout the game she argued with Solas, trying to show him that change is possible, and that the Inquisition could be a positive force in the world. And he believed her.

If the next arc dealt with Solas trying to change the world himself, and Lavellan confronting him in a "this isn't what I meant! Help me and the Inquisition lead people to make the changes they need to themselves!" sort of way, then I would be absolutely ecstatic. Doesn't that just sound like a fantastic story?

Also, it has so many delicious parallels to the story of Andraste. Andraste petitioning the Maker for mercy on behalf of the people, and the Maker giving them a second chance because of her conviction and his love for her. The Inquisitor is literally elven Andraste.

Interesting! There are many things we don't know though, such as, are the elvhen gods all that bad? Did he do it to save them, as Cole suggested? We also know that way back in the day, there was no veil, and the elvhen mage "gods" could LITERALLY shape reality. I think he meant it literally when he said he needs to collapse the veil, haha. Maybe the veil being there is a result of his actions, too? Ahh, so many unknowns :D

You're right, they are portrayed pretty badly, but then we also know the current lore is pretty inaccurate. But at least we know that they weren't actually "gods" in the real sense, just really powerful, immortal elvhen mages. Hmm.
