Can I just say how much I love that first flirt option? The one where you tell him that you'll protect him. And not in an innuendo-y way either. It fit my Inquisitor so much. Because he was the one who showed her that she could make a difference by closing the rifts, when before she had been confused and uncertain if she could do anything to help. And his "Thank you" seemed both surprised and heartfelt.

It doesn't feel right to say that, though, to me. It's an empty promise. They're both elven apostates and until recently she was in shackles with a mark on her hand nobody understands. I'm not fond of posturing. He gives an approval bump if you say "Cassandra respects you," etc. That's the one I choose there. (edit: I should say, obviously it's what fits your character.)

I don't remember his dialogue suggesting he GAVE the orb to Corypheus, but I may be misremembering what I heard.  I was under the impression that it was stolen from him because he was too weak to defend it at the time.  Perhaps it was Corypheus who woke him while searching elven ruins?

Flemythal says it in the post credits scene - that he shouldn't have given Corypheus his orb and he says he was too weak to unlock it.

He does promise clarification, and says they'll discuss it later post-battle.  And then he leaves, without even a note with a fake reason for leaving.

I'm not really all that well versed on dreamers and the uthenera stage the ancient elves went through, so i was hoping someone could clear things up for me a bit.

During his slumber, was Solas aware of all the changes that were happening in the 'real' world? Or does he wake up and find that everything went to hell?

 

When I first played the game, I got the impression that Solas had woken up to find the world and the state of the elves to be completely the opposite of what he wanted to achieve. But, the way he talks about the world and the things he knows, such as about the circle and how much he knows about Dalish culture, makes it seem as though he does already know about all this. I don't know how long he's been awake for, but I assumed it wasn't too long before the Breach, considering he talked about being too weak after waking up. Was it when the eluvians were reactivated in TME? How long has it been since the end of the book and the start of the game?

I've just been a little confused on it all. Solas mentions that he can see the past memories of events in the fade, but can he also see things happening in the present? He mentioned having to have visited/explored areas in the real world to be able to see them and their history in the fade, but if he's been in uthenera for centuries then how could he have? Unless he explored a lot in the time of Arlathan, I dunno? It's hard to know with Solas how much is what he saw in the Fade, what he actually experienced in the ancient elven time, and how much he is covering up to hide his true identity. It just seems like it's not a lot of time since waking up to get to grips with the current state of the world. But I think it is actually really tragic if Solas was able to slowly see the destruction of his people while sleeping, unable to do anything about it but watch as the centuries tick by....damn that's sad. And makes me really think how lonely Solas must have been...

 

I think I'm gonna go cry again now *rerolls another Lavellan for a second heartbreaking playthrough*

I don't think it was an empty promise. He immediately asks "how" and she doesn't back down, saying that she'd do it however she had to. The "Cassandra respects you" line works as well, but I liked the flirt as a more personal way of letting him know that she won't forget the risk he's taking by helping her, and that she'll go to bat for him if he needs her to.

I think it's implied that he wakes up to find everything went to hell. It's also implied that he's been walking around for awhile. He's had time to encounter at least one Dalish clan. I don't think he just woke up three days before the game starts but he hasn't been awake all that long either. He probably knows a lot of what he knows about history from being there and potentially from exploring in the Fade both before going to sleep and after waking up.

I was thinking about that final romance scene and I just now thought of another angle to view it in...

Maybe Solas does set out with the intention of breaking up, but he's not doing so to make the breakup special.  He seems to think about things, measure them out.  He knew that doing what he did would make the breakup worse.  Maybe what startled him was the realization that this was much harder than he expected.

 

I repeat what I said earlier:  wolves mate for life.  So Fen'Harel is making a statement.  He's making sure that Lavellan knows he wasn't just SAYING it when he told her he loves her.  He's making sure she remembers his love, understands its depth, and maybe eventually comes to understand that he considered the loss of that love a tremendous sacrifice, not something that was done lightly or on a whim.  It was something he had to do, despite how he felt.  No matter what happened, Lavellan was going to know that Solas loved her--even though he left her.

 

Yes, Lavellan is completely justified to be angry.  In fact anger is probably the kinder response.  It may be Solas would rather Lavellan hated him than be cut so deeply by his actions.  My character, Uth'Shiral, was just terribly sad and confused.

 

I have just succeeded in making myself even sadder over a situation in a video game.  Kudos to me.

I'm sure it's possible.  Someone should find out, for science.  But considering...

that the romance doesn't officially lock in until that final scene, and I'm sure he still leaves, you will probably just miss out on romance commentary?  And also a really moving scene.

They're not both necessarily elven apostates. There are warriors and rogues, too.

 

But yes, I do agree that even so, the Inquisitor had just been in shackles, so her position is precarious at that moment.

 

For me, it made sense for my rogue because she understands just how much Thedas fears mages, especially apostates, and has lived a life where much of it was dedicated to protecting the clan's Keeper and First... her leaders and the holders of the clan's collective history and knowledge. I see it as a natural extension for her to feel protective of the elven mage offering her assistance.

 

However, everyone's free to role-play whatever makes sense for their characters, of course.

They mentioned Patrick Weekes in the context of writing romances. They were saying they have a group discussion for determining which characters will have romances and sometimes a writer will say, "no, this doesn't work for this character." I think it was Mike Laidlaw that said, "and then there's what Patrick does." Which is to say he has an idea for a romance. And then he gets told "no."

It makes me wonder if his DA romances used to be more crazy and they had to reign him in. Somehow, I wouldn't be surprised!

All right, so, as promised...

 

GREETINGS FROM CRESTWOOD!!!

 

The strategy guide only shows two artifacts, but I found three. Possibly there may be more, as I've explored only about 1/2 to 3/4 of Crestwood, by my estimations, but figured I'd go ahead and throw these up for y'all.

All three can only be found once you've drained the lake.

 

The first one is beside a house on the Flats, located here. My arrow marks the spot. There is a Fade Rift you close up nearby, so pretty easy to find thanks to that quest marker (mine's gone because I closed the Rift first):

 

 

 

 

The next one is located in Old Crestwood, which had, until recently, been buried under flooded waters. It's next to a house as well, right on the edge of the receded lake:

 

 

 

 

One thing I noticed about Old Crestwood that's a bit disturbing to me is... well, the whole place had just been underwater literally 5 minutes ago. I activated the dam, shifted the water elsewhere... and suddenly there are burning torches? Say what?

 

 

And have an outtake thanks to Solas deciding to photobomb my screenshot...

 

 

 

And finally, the third (unmarked by strategy guide) artifact is located on the very bottom level of the Flooded Cave dungeon. That third level is also where the main Fade Rift for the quest "Still Waters" is, so again, makes it easy to find. On the third level, you come to a juncture. To the left is a room with the Rift; to the right is a big room you pass through on your way to the exit... so, close the Rift first. Then, when going to the right to exit, you enter that large room. Head all the way to the left and you'll see the artifact on a table against the far wall:

Aside from wanting to be sure Lavellan KNEW how he felt, part of the reason that he might have had to end it is that she was sure to realize he's an ancient elven god.  Even if she hates Fen'Harel, and thus Solas, he's a god.  He's something she'd want to worship, not someone she'd want to be in a relationship with.  It might have caused their relationship to end once she found out, anyway, depending on the character.

So how do you guys think Solas would be as a father?  I certainly don't see fatherhood in the cards for him and Lavellan, but if they were in "another world" what kind of father do you think he'd be?  Since he's

the god of rebellion I bet he'd put on a facade of "follow the rules" for Lavellan's benefit, but secretly help his son/daughter do pranks XD

 

I still want a Wolf Hunt DLC, but I also really, really, really want a Solas enhance DLC where he gets more quests and dialogue for both romance and friendship paths.  I just wanted to keep learning about the Fade and listening to him sass the rest of the Inquisition *sigh*

He already seemed to play a pretty good father for Cole, so I would say he'd do fine.

And if for some reason he dies during DLC, I am hoping there's enough ambiguity to at least speculate if Lavellan could have his child. It doesn't seem right that the ancient elves die out completely.
