Bah, Spoiler tag.  You're in the Solas Recovery Wing, you've already been committed.

He said he was too weak to "unlock it"

I'll just post this here.

I can just imagine the artists and writers while making the romance scenes.

"Just have him tilt her a bit more." *giggle*

"Maybe we should have him touching her butt in this segment." *giggle*

Was that headcannon or is there truth to the possibility that the "gods" were locked away in the Eluvians?

Sorry forgot the words.  But Solas didn't show up until it was "unlocked" by whatever magic Corypenis did to it to rend the sky.  So, if his power is in the orb and the anchor is the key to it ... I mean that was an impressive light show at the end of the game.  Was the Inquisitor wielding the power of a god or was she using only half of it?  I don't know, but I feel like more than simply the mirror and imprisoned gods were tied to the fate of the orb.  Like maybe part of Solas was too.  Which would be why he needs Mythal.

It's all very confusing.

Like Dorian said, "It's like trying to figure out a puzzle when you only have half of the pieces."

I am seriously late to the party here, thanks to somehow blowing the Solasmancing on my first playthrough and (as any dedicated fangirl would) starting from scratch 120+ hours in.  So with deep apologies if the answer is somewhere in this amazing pile of posts, I have a spoilery question for the lorekeepers here:

Spoiler

Am I missing something?

Anyone have ideas of where they actually are in the after credits scene? We talk about the motivations so much, but no one talked about the location. Are they

Wait, scratch what I said.  Scratch all of it.

In the alternate universe Solas was still alive.  Weakened and partially crazy, but alive.  So he can exist without the "anchor".

Like Dorian said, "It's like trying to figure out a puzzle when you only have half of the pieces."

You know who has the other half of the puzzle?

Solas.  <_<

He'd better tell me what's up after Leliana helps the Inquisitor track him down.

He's a trickster. It wouldn't be surprising if he used magic to hide his true appearance. Cutting off all the hair helps too I bet.

Wouldn't have to do the body hopping thing if he was one of the original ancient elves, they're immortal and Mythal has taken over mortal, human bodies.

And I don'g think Abelas would out him, he's a god after all.

You know, I wonder if the Inquisitor's mark would help them find Solas now that it seems like he's regained a lot of power. It is an effect of Fen'Harel's power, after all.

I secretly want the origin of the 'Dread Wolf' title to actually be referencing his hair.

"What? Evil? No, no. We meant like, dreads. Dude had sweet dreads. No one could get dreads like that, man, no one."

Hahaha ... That would be amazing.

Now imagine Solas as a hippy stoner sitting around with his ancient elvhen brethren.

"You know what's like messed up, man?  Slaves."

Takes a drag.

"Like someone should do something about that."

Garrus breakups are just too much.  My poor little alien batman.  No one's going to hurt you or Shepard will murder them all.

BTW I do love Solas.  I was just trying to bring a bit of questioning to his actions.  I'm trying parse his personality.  Not the smooth talker one that he shows, but the true one.  If there wasn't a sign on the left of the screen telling me 'Solas disapproves' half of the time I would have no idea that he did.

I would love a full list of what he approves and disapproves of.  Even the little things, just to grasp his motivations.  He's so complex and intelligent that I have this awful knee-jerk reaction that he is playing the longest game on us.  Of course try telling that to my Lavellan.  She's smitten.

Garrus is the One. No other make the long hours of galaxy saving as valuable. plus he gets to evolve over 3 games :)

Now back to Solas...

I know thats not how the approval system is supposed to work but sometimes I question if Solas gives approval for things he expects the Inquisitor to do rather than simply things he would have done himself?

He is very clear in the first convo that he expect Quizzy to be a Heroe, white steed and all. So he approves of heroic acts.

But what does he really want at the beginning? His orb back? A chance to study something inexpected like what a mortal would do with the Anchor?

From there, you get approval for asking questions he has answers to. But ask how he knows about Court intrigue and youll get disapproval. So does he like your curiosity or is he enjoying throwing yarn at you ?(not sure that metaphor works in english)

Of course things evnetually change with Lavellan and he appreciate her NOT being what he expected.

I dunno... just some stray thoughts.

I hope its just jealous Lavellan in the back of your head, but I can't say my first thought when they put their heads together wasn't "GET AWAY FROM MY SOLAS!"
