I know.  But if you think about it like Fen'harel trapped in the sleep and attached to the orb as an "anchor" to the present, then a powerful mage breaks through the defenses and takes the orb.  He would have been shocked and curious.  He also says that he was too weak to do anything about it.  So I imagine he followed Corypenis, or was forced to observe, to the events at the Temple.  At which point the "anchor" transfers to another and he reveals himself. 

 

Why is it called the anchor?

 

No one really explains it.  They explain what it is, sort of, but not why it has that name. 

 

I don't think that is Solas' physical body anymore.  I don't think he really has one.  Like Cole does not have one.

Flemeth and Solas were/are definitely working together. I still don't think he got his hands on the OGBs soul though, you can see her putting it into the Eluvian before he walks up. Am I the only one that detects a close history between those two beyond just friendship? Or is that just the jealous Lavellan in the back of my head?

I'll just post this here.

 

Sorry forgot the words.  But Solas didn't show up until it was "unlocked" by whatever magic Corypenis did to it to rend the sky.  So, if his power is in the orb and the anchor is the key to it ... I mean that was an impressive light show at the end of the game.  Was the Inquisitor wielding the power of a god or was she using only half of it?  I don't know, but I feel like more than simply the mirror and imprisoned gods were tied to the fate of the orb.  Like maybe part of Solas was too.  Which would be why he needs Mythal. 

 

It's all very confusing.

I am seriously late to the party here, thanks to somehow blowing the Solasmancing on my first playthrough and (as any dedicated fangirl would) starting from scratch 120+ hours in.  So with deep apologies if the answer is somewhere in this amazing pile of posts, I have a spoilery question for the lorekeepers here:

Why didn't Abelas, or any of the other WoS elves recognize Solas?  Being of the orignal immortal line undisturbed and unbroken since the civil war, they are from "his time", are they not? Maybe this is making too many assumptions, but it seems he must have been at least as well-known to the Elvhen population back then as one of the high Magisters would be in modern Tevinter. For obvious reasons, he's never had to do any kind of Mythalesque body-hopping- so (being immortal and all) I would assume he appears no different now than he did then.

 

Am I missing something?

In the alternate universe Solas was still alive.  Weakened and partially crazy, but alive.  So he can exist without the "anchor".

Wouldn't have to do the body hopping thing if he was one of the original ancient elves, they're immortal and Mythal has taken over mortal, human bodies.

And I don'g think Abelas would out him, he's a god after all.

Well if you assume there are some truths to the Elven myths and in what Morrigan says, then the Eluvians represent pathways to other dimensions. It's possible that the "gods" are locked away in a pocket dimension (or pair of pocket dimensions) behind the eluvians. He tricked them into it and then locked the door/gateway behind them. The orb is probably the key to unlocking the door or possessed the power he needed. Dagna says the Anchor on Inquisitor's hand is a key of some kind, it opens and closes but we don't know what. We assume into the Fade, but if Cory was basing that magic off what he got from the orb then the Inquisitor's hand has the last remnants of the key to the elven god's prison.

Food for thought at the very least. I think that's been speculated in here before.

BTW I do love Solas.  I was just trying to bring a bit of questioning to his actions.  I'm trying parse his personality.  Not the smooth talker one that he shows, but the true one.  If there wasn't a sign on the left of the screen telling me 'Solas disapproves' half of the time I would have no idea that he did. 

 

I would love a full list of what he approves and disapproves of.  Even the little things, just to grasp his motivations.  He's so complex and intelligent that I have this awful knee-jerk reaction that he is playing the longest game on us.  Of course try telling that to my Lavellan.  She's smitten.

 

 

Garrus is the One. No other make the long hours of galaxy saving as valuable. plus he gets to evolve over 3 games

 

Now back to Solas...

I know thats not how the approval system is supposed to work but sometimes I question if Solas gives approval for things he expects the Inquisitor to do rather than simply things he would have done himself?

 

He is very clear in the first convo that he expect Quizzy to be a Heroe, white steed and all. So he approves of heroic acts.

But what does he really want at the beginning? His orb back? A chance to study something inexpected like what a mortal would do with the Anchor?

 

From there, you get approval for asking questions he has answers to. But ask how he knows about Court intrigue and youll get disapproval. So does he like your curiosity or is he enjoying throwing yarn at you ?(not sure that metaphor works in english)

 

Of course things evnetually change with Lavellan and he appreciate her NOT being what he expected.

I hope its just jealous Lavellan in the back of your head, but I can't say my first thought when they put their heads together wasn't "GET AWAY FROM MY SOLAS!"
