I wonder if this isn't all tied to what went on in the Golems of Amgarrak with the lyrium wells and shifting layers maybe? of the Fade. There are dwarves who mention the Thaig in the Winter Palace. Token mention or is BioWare trying to remind us that it exists and wasn't pointless?

So I just actually finished the game (I was putting it off because the feelings were too much), and here's what I think about that after credits scene!

I doubt I'm the only one who thinks this or voiced this, but...

 

As much as I love our favorite Dread Wolf, I think he forcefully took Flemythal's soul/essence from her. I know someone earlier said that that couldn't be true because Flemeth said "a soul cannot be forced upon the unwilling" but... that doesn't apply to a soul being forcefully taken. The look on Solas's face right before the soul transferwhateverthatwas happened screamed "determination" to me, as did his expression when he looked up and his eyes were glowing.

 

So I think he surprised Flemythal at the end and took her soul/essence for his own, because whatever it is he's planning, he needs her power to do it. That also means that whatever he's planning, he didn't think she'd agree to help. I think all the theories that he's planning to release the gods he trapped is probably true. That seems like something Mythal wouldn't want, and would refuse to help with, which would give an excuse for him to forcefully take her power.

 

BUT... If that's the case, it's likely he's going to be an antagonist in the future, which is sad. I just hope those of us who romanced him get some kind of actual closure. Preferably the kind that doesn't involve someone dying. lol

Yeah, when I first saw it, I thought Mythal possessed Solas.  But after reading the boards and reexamining some things, I'm starting to think he took her soul and probably the Old God soul she had as well.  Dread Wolf is supposed to be tricksy, after all.  Since he couldn't get his power back from the orb, he found another way...

Wow, I saw the scene with Solas and an human Inquisitor that becomes an knight enchanter. He is actually pretty touchy about it. He says that this specialization was created by circle mages that studied about the ancient arcane warriors from the elven empire. He coments how in those times arcane warriors were elite soldiers from the army or personal bodyguards of elven nobles. He get's mad because you are now using these old powers to protect the chantry, wich is kind of biased from him. How does he know an mage Inquisitor will use these powers for that particular porpouse? I also wonder what he says if you are dalish or Qunari.

That's interesting, I had a Dalish Knight Enchanter, and he never said anything about it. But she wasn't a Chantry fan, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Interesting, he never made a comment about me becoming a Knight Enchanter. The dialogue in this game can be pretty buggy though. I swear on a previous playthrough I had him yell at me for letting the Gray Warden's stay but this playthrough nothing. Silence. It's... ugh.

I loved the Solas Ark! And after the end game scene I felt like Sally's song in 'a nightmare before Christmas' summed up their relationship really well, and my trepidation for their future.

I've never gotten Solas to comment on my specialization. Sera has commented on both Rift Mage and Knight Enchanter though. I'm wondering if it's randomized to some extent? It could also be bugged because there are plenty of those.

It doesn't make sense to me that the "transfer" was forced because of their dialogue.

Solas saying "I'm the one who should bear this cost, but the People need me" is an acknowledgement that he's the one who ought to die, then they both say "I'm sorry." To me this says that whatever happened, it was a mutually agreed plan. I think it was Mythal consenting to die again so that he could take her power and accomplish his plan which would allow her to accomplish her revenge.

The orb to someone like Cory in the first place. Yes let's give this very powerful and important artifact to this evil darkspawn magister who wants to rule the world. What could possibly go wrong? It doesn't make any sense. Unless...

He and Cory shared the same goal. They both wanted to bring down the veil and restore magic to the world. Maybe he wanted to enter the black city too. He comments to Cassandra in one banter about how he likes the idea of the Maker, as a god who doesn't need to prove his power...so I almost wonder...
Except maybe Solas thought that, unlike Cory, he could be different and wouldn't abuse his power as a god? Perhaps this is why he calls himself Pride.

In some of the early dialog he talks about wanting a world with no veil and everyone (not just mages) having magic. So I got the impression this was his real goal, and what he was trying to explain about what the elves really lost. It's not about the empire but their loss of culture/magic. So that's what he wanted to restore. Except it all went wrong. Cory went crazy. Spirits went into shock as they were sucked through the rifts and turned into demons.

Maybe he leaves at end because he doesn't want you to turn into the next Cory, and blames himself for that.

Yes, something like that, but a bit different at the end.  Also he did not disapprove of me asking about what the Arcane Warriors were called in elven, I believe.  Or perhaps he did, but I don't remember.    My gal, like me, is basically an ancient elf lore Hoover, so she asked about all the things.  I do remember that it was, basically, a positive conversation.

 

Maybe he just doesn't like humans poking into elven history?

During the post-singing scene he's confused about how Corypheus survived and he has a line of dialogue at Skyhold about being surprised a Tevinter magister could even use the orb to it's full extent. It may be that he didn't think Corypheus would be able to use it or that it would kill Corypheus if he did. There are definitely parallels between Solas and Corypheus though - both how they woke up to a world gone 'wrong' and their attempts to 'fix' it.

I've given it a lot of thought, and I know I said I made a human to romance Iron Bull, but I dunno... since playing an elf and romancing Solas, and the game being shrouded in elven lore, it just feels canon to play a Solasmancing elf????

Like, we've got Cory obviously and the main plot is to bring him down, but then we learn about the ancient elves and their involvement. I feel like as an elf, it's more of a journey of knowledge and self-discovery... plus tragic romance. </3

To me, that entire conversation came off as

Solas saying, "I'm sorry our plans didn't work out. We're going to have to change them." and Flemeth agrees that their plans need to change... but then his new plan is to take Mythal's power into himself and most likely use it to release the gods from their prison. Something he obviously doesn't let her in on, because of course she would say no. Nothing we've seen of Flemeth has ever indicated (to me, at least) that she'd be willing to give up her power. She wants to achieve vengeance for Mythal, but I don't think at the cost of herself. And Flemeth seemed surprised to me when the transfer happened, not resigned or willing.

 

But meh. It's all up to the player as to how to interpret things. It was deliberately vague as heck. I just want to know if we'll have all our questions answered in a DA:I DLC or in DA4, and when are they gonna come out? Because I need them NOWWWWW. XD

I've never posted my Lavellan before, so I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in with her here! Here's Sybba Lavellan, who I've already done a Cullenmance playthrough with but am rolling again for my canon playthrough as a Solasmancer because it just hurts so good

Meh, I'm getting to the point that I won't even buy the DLC if we don't get a satisfactory ending.  Headcannon is sometimes way better.

I am right there with you! XD  I'll have to check the forums for a "yay!" or "nay..." response to any future DLC.  If it goes the nay route, then I'll just have to write my own ending and leave it at that.

I agree, I'm honestly surprised that both were afterthoughts. It just doesn't feel like it fits as perfectly with my human character, but then again it could just be because I'm still wrapped up in my Solas obsession and a little biased.
