And I was really intrigued by what you've mentioned of Songs and the mechanics behind that. Unfortunately, it was seven hours past when I should have been in bed, so I just sort of gave it a bleary thumbs up before collapsing into slumber on my keyboard.

Would you kindly give an example of those mechanics? I previously thought the Architect couldn't hear the Old Gods' Calling, but now it appears he can hear it, but he simply isn't compelled the same way his brethren are. And Wardens who are sufficiently past their Calling appear to become much more darkspawn like, but then they're not driven insane by the Calling. Likewise, Corypheus doesn't seem drawn to the Old Gods underground. I'd imagine that if he could hear the Calling, he would believe it to be a sign the Old Gods existed and were still talking to him. Both he and the Architect went to the Black City, what's the difference?

Of course. Frankly, I think each Lavellan should be given her own Solas at the character creator.

She misses him greatly. She is not going after him, but she *is* leaving the Inquisition at once.

Yes- I hadn't heard much about him but an elven romance with lore reasons for why it's gated? I couldn't resist that.

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?
I would say that she feels similar to Merrill- isolated from most because she was off studying alone while the hunters hunted together. And she'll be happier pursuing magical research than as Keeper. But I got the clan killed in my first game anyway. 

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?
Generally devout to the elven gods but not shattered by the new revelations. She's more a scholar than a believer, and you go wherever the truth leads you.

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?
No. I'm going with the writer intent that Solas begged her not to, and she figures she's got enough godlike responsibility for one person.

9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?
Yes- it's an integrity thing. Knowing what it was, she couldn't keep it.

10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?
Don't leave me- I'm not giving up on you, whatever you need we can find it together.

11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?
Heartbroken but bearing it quietly like a good Dalish. She'll throw herself into work and researching the eluvians and orbs, which she'll secretly hope leads her to find him. She deserves answers.

Me, I love it- I had a feeling this was Morrigan as of the talk about foci on the mountaintop after Haven. I'm hopeful that Bioware will resolve it well.

She did, she can be a bit of a rebel herself and never felt particularly attached to them anyway. Having them removed, was basically her saying "ok, enough is enough".

She knows she'll see him again, she misses him very much, but she always had a feeling there was more to him and knows that there's something that he needs to do, something that he feels bound to.  She's just a little disappointed that he wouldn't let her help him.  She's taking it way better than me tbh. Like quite a few people it actually felt like I'd been through it myself and for a few days after my first playthrough I was a complete mess.

12. What would you give for a Wolf Hunt DLC?

You name it, if I had it it would be theirs.

I created the new character and when I go to haven right after closing the breach.. well stopping it from growing.. and I go to the war room to talk.. after that it loads like forever and then my character just appears in the war room.. standing.. and I can't get out of there wtf.. If I try to open any older save and do it again.. it still happens...

Yes. A few times falling was too much for my liking. If the floor is phasing in and out, time to sit it out.

Well, I just had to keep going back there. But the floors did some really interesting vanishing tricks on me. The only thing even better than this was when smack in the middle of a quest, right when I was being bashed by a behemoth, half my party got stuck on a green strip in limbo land.

 

They never made it. And I ran out of potions. 

 

It's all Solas' fault.

Rather curious that they punctuate Pride, isn't it? Maybe I've gone full conspiracy nut, going after punctuation.   They've already had 'What Pride/Solas Had Wrought' as the quest where we fight our way through the Temple of Mythal and get glimpses of Arlathan's true history and bare hints to what Fen'harel did.

I like the idea of Solas sealing away the Blight in the Black City, and the Magisters releasing it as plot of a plan by the Old Gods/Elgar'nan and company. What can I say?

My take-away from The Calling so far.

A) David Gaider is a tricky bugger.

David Gaider is a cruel writer. 

C) I no longer want the Architect to return in future games. I want the Architect and Utha.

Well that just seals it. Time to get this flycam thing for myself and pray it doesn't break nuffin.

 

I am still grumpy that we don't have an official toolset, and I will remain so until this is remedied, considering Bioware pioneered the whole stinkin idea in the first place. Stupid frostbite engine of stupidness. Ugh.

I have a long and bloody history with modding. Starting from Morrowind and Fallout. It got even worse with Skyrim , I'm ashamed to admit that i was addicted to mods. The game couldn't take anymore of my **** and was crashing every time I tried to load a save.

I also modded all i could in DAO, especially the hair. I NEEDED ALL THE HAIR MODS.And ended up using 2-3 styles out of 50...

 

So I'm kind of glad I got the PS4 version of the game and not the PC one. I'm not going back to my addiction. No way. Even if there isn't a toolset.

This is not my canon Lavellan, but I enjoyed playing her a lot and the poor girl deserves some attention after the massive heartbreak I put her through. So here we go!

Gwynn.

Archer rogue. Her SP is tempest but I just picked that because I collected all the items first (I hate the specializations unlocking system) 

 

3. Which god's vallaslin does your Lavellan use?

 

Sylaise (alt) I picked it for aesthetic reasons, but after learning its meaning, I think it fits Gwynn well as family is very important to her.

 

4. How old is your Lavellan?

 

23. I like to think her as a young yet experienced character.

 

5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?

 

Not on my first PT; but as I completed the game he became more and more attractive in my eyes and later I learned about the romance. So I rolled Gwynn on  my second PT to romance Solas.

 

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?

 

She loves them to pieces, misses them a lot and wishes she could be with them, though she is quite comfortable with her role as Inquisitor. As for her role in the clan structure, I mostly go with what the character codex says: she's a well-respected hunter, regarded as a benefactor and protector.  

 

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?

 

She worships the Dalish gods, but they are more important to her as part of her cultural identity than because of their religious role. 

 

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?

 

Yes. There was no way she would leave such an important piece of her heritage fall to a human mage she barely knew.

 

9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?

 

Yes. It was a purely emotional thing; a mixture of the intimate moment with Solas and the disappointment of finding her people got YET another thing wrong. She rationalized afterwards that if she intends to bring city and Dalish elves together as she does, it's good that she's the image of change and the will to forget the past and move forward together.

 

10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?

 

The sad ones, I think they are the "I love you" and "Don't leave me". She's usually a straight-to-the-point, stoic character, but the breakup caught her completely off guard and she couldn't help her emotions overflowing.   

 

11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?

 

At first, she felt betrayed. He said that all would be explained after dealing with Corypheus and what he did was run off and barely say goodbye. After the victory she was so busy that thankfully she hardly had time to think about anything, and now she's just sad that he's gone (she still sighs when she goes through the empty rotunda) and holding a little hope that someday he will be back and finally give her the promised explanation.

 

I completely understand it after seeing the post credits scene and knowing what Weekes said about Solas being one second short of telling her the truth. I have come to believe that Solas really planned on explaining everything (maybe not his plans in detail, but telling who he is and there's something important he must do alone) after the battle, but the orb broke and that forced him down a completely different path. I think leaving like that hurt him as much as it did her. 

 

Two Bonus Questions

 

12. Her closest non-romantic relationships? 

 

Cole, Cassandra and, oddly enough, Vivienne. I agree with a lot of people on the thread that when romancing Solas, Cole feels like their adoptive son. She gets along really well with Cassandra as they are very similar (badass, no-nonsense, but with a kind heart) And she and Vivienne have a lot of respect for each other and they got very close after Vivienne's mission. I think of Vivi as her only real confident, and that they only leave their inner, softer side open to each other and away from anyone else.

 

13. What animal would represent her?

 

The wolf on her card. She's a hunter, loves her pack and is highly protective of it.

Did your computer lag whenever you opened up your list of mods for Morrowind?   

Most of my characters were started because I lost track of which mods were active with which character, so I started over, only to stop playing for a few weeks and then find a bunch of cool new mods to add to the pile.

Dagna : Like, mountain-tall. Or I was the mountain. But I was moving. I felt dizzy.

Dagna : You know what I remembered ? Watching a shaperate carve the wall of memory. Except... big. Isn't that weird ? Maybe there were fumes.

Inquisitor : What do you mean when you say "thought all the thoughts"?

Dagna : I don't know ? As if, for a moment, I was around all my people. And my thought was all of theirs ? No, no, my thought was all of our thoughts. Like parts. Ugh, words are mush.

Dagna : Maybe that's what the Stone feels like. Or we think it feels like. If we think it feels ? Creepy.

Inquisitor : So tranquil and dwarves are linked to lyrium, but also not linked ?

Dagna : Like the lyrium needs to flow, but if you're part of it, it takes you with it. so you can't be part of it. That makes me sad. I'm not sure why. It seems like we should be part of it. Whatever "it" is.

Dagna : Or maybe we're the ones who make it happen ? Whatever "it" is ?

Dagna : You know what's frustrating ? Answers that aren't answers. Bleah. (I see you Bioware.)

Dagna : I tried to make it happen again, but it wouldn't. Then I had a headache. And cocoa. And a lie-down.

 

 

I'm not sure if this was pointed already (the thread, it's so long, it's endless, I can't catch up, I GAVE UP) but the part about her "my thought was all of our thoughts"? Made me think about the taint.

 

Taint is a source of magic, maybe at some point it was a legit one. The taint also connects minds, and what Dagna experienced sounds like a hive mind, her thoughts was constructed from all the thoughts of people. Perhaps lyrium draws powers from the fade, and the taint draws power from the.. void.. Whatever it was at the time. Also, she was tall, like a mountain, but could move, and she also states later "maybe that's what the Stone feels like", so the taint - power of the earth, that got twisted into something horrible.

 

And darkspawn? Ancient dwarves, those who drew power entirely from the void. Current dwarves? Mixture of the ancient dwarves and another race, who draw power from the lyrium, that's why they don't have any magical power, and at the same immune to the affects of the lyrium (and even that to some extent).

 

Lyrium "flows" (perhaps that why it 'sings'), so if the taint is twisted power of earth, then lyrium is power of the air? Or river? Or perhaps more general than that. Lyrium is the power within the living/moving, pre-taint was the power within the static/grounded (I don't want to say dead, because it's untrue XD). Dwarves can't be part of the lyrium's flow because they are too real, too 'grounded'.

 

As said, the farther one is from the fade, the less dangerous lyrium is, that's why dwarves & tranquils manage to handle raw lyrium, and the reason mages die on contact with lyrium.

 

If magic is drawn from the fade, and lyrium 'shortens' the connection (I seriously imagine it as an electricity circuit XD), then someone with magic abilities with have his magic enhanced on contact with lyrium, his power will grow in an instant and his body won't be able to contain it, so they will die... If we continue with the electricity analogy (which fits, because electricity is very flow-y), lets say those more connected to the fade have lower impedance, those less connected - higher impedance. Circuit shortage causes lots of current to go through at once, that can happen when the route to the current source is being shortened (quite literally)... You know what happens when a short circuit happens? It depends on how much current passed through. It can cause burning, distortion of materials and explosion. So the lower the impedance -> more current at once -> bigger consequences.

Lyrium is a conductor! Electricity sings too! It can explain why lyrium spontaneously combusts.

 

And what Dagna saw? She saw through the eyes of the old god slash forgotten ones slash titans.

I bought a graphics card specifically for dragon age inquisition. I usually played indie games and can pull of high settings. Having to set it at low in DAI was a shocking revelation that my computer sucked. Now I can play the highest quality for the next 2 years! 3 years if i'm lucky. I don't play that many games. Maybe like... 2 per year.

Hello! Please add another broken hearted Inquisitor to the list; I understand it's a long one. This is my first post here but I have been stalking the thread for quite a few weeks. Please forgive me if I mess up formatting/spoiler tags, it has been a very long time since I last posted in a forum.

 

I'm about to start my 3rd Lavellan/Solas pt because it seems I'm a sucker for punishment. My first pt was with a human lady who was determined at the outset to get Cullen, but found her eye being undeniably drawn to the odd elf-man, haha. When I completed the game and Cullen wrapped his arms around my Inquisitor, it felt so wrong. I just wanted Solas back at Skyhold and wanted Cullen to gtf off of me so I could go find him! So I quickly started a new game, flirted my pants off with Solas and now cannot romance anyone else, at least not when my Inquisitor is female. I love these games for always giving me actual feelings, but it means most other games are too boring for me now. OH WELL. 

 

I just wish it was easier to modify characters after the introduction. Too many times I've spent hours creating a new face only to realise that something is way off once I see her/him in motion. HOWEVER, I'm really happy with my new Lavellan; she's so pretty that I just happily stare at her during cutscenes instead of kicking myself over her chin or eyeliner. Here she is...

I spent ages trying to get her right and I must have done something correctly because whenever she makes an expression it actually looks natural and not like that odd, uncanny valley thing most of my other Inquisitors have going on.
