She kinda dropped it and it broke, which annoyed me a little bit tbh..the way she just dropped it like it was nothing.

Aww man that's even worse than failing to catch it. I think I'm a little upset now.

I suppose it could have been weakened, but she didn't have to drop the thing!

The inquisitor closed the rift by literally levitating it to the core of it and after it closed the thing fell all the way at high speed and smashed to the ground? or...wait..did they catch it..I kinda forgot.

It fell to the ground very intact. Next scene - it's broken.

Kelly Clarkson is my favorite female vocal artist ever and I don't care who knows it. That said, I'd never heard this song before this day. Now it will be a part of my rhapsody playlist forever, and it will always make me think of Solas when I hear it. So when someone catches me sitting there with headphones on looking like this:

127.gif

I'm telling them it was all Zarro's fault.

Aww...I feel bad for making you remember all of that pain, but that song is just so great and Kelly is simply amazing. I still can't believe I never thought that song illustrated Solas breaking up with Lavellan.

Maybe all the power in it went someplace else?

Like to join the rest of the power from the foci...?

Hahah. Bioware just thinks the whole lot of us are idiots. Mostly because 80% of people, in general, are actual idiots.

All you have to do is go to the main scuttlebutt thread and read out loud the topics.

Just do it once and see if you don't facepalm at that.

Since you brought up Scuttlebutt, I often wonder this.  Why do people discuss story and characters in Scuttlebutt?  isn't it for articles and social media stuff?  Split into spoilers and non-spoilers.  I get so confused when I go over there and see Sera hate threads and Solas theories.  Dudes, wrong forum.  Right?

It was in one piece when it was in her hand...

My brother just finished the game, and I'm 70% sure It went up into the sky to close the breach?.. and then.. falls.. down? It never SHOWS the orb breaking, It's just broke.

The orb is still whole after being dropped. It most likely got smashed by the falling rocks afterwards.

Yeah, we didn't see it break, but I'm still miffed that she dropped it, she knew how important it was to him..

Just another question, that keeps buzzing in my head: how exactly was Coryphysh vaporised? Was he dissolved? Empty-spaced into the Fade? And why did it leave the foci utterly destroyed in the process?

I'm pretty sure the inquisitor opened a Fade rift in his face. The orb getting destroyed didn't really make any sense to me other than just plot dictated it needed to be destroyed. It was definitely in one piece before Cory went 'splodey.

Maybe....it took a while for the orb to realize it died? Like those gory movies and the people that get beheaded?

She got too carried away trying to act badass.

Does he? I don't remember him ever stating stating that It's super important just that. "Hey It's a ancient artifact, I'd like to study it /half truth" type of thing.

GUYS. IDEA. I keep going back to Dorian's discussion with Solas about the orb and its meaning in ancient Tevinter texts.

Maybe... Maybe they ACTUALLY contain a part of the Fade - the place and stuff of dreams. Like a portion of the fade has been compressed, condensed, and placed in the orb that the person wielding it can call upon for more power.

What do we know about magic in the Dragon Age universe already? It comes from the Fade. The mage pulls energy from the fade, through the veil, and into reality - manifesting in magic. In that way, they pull from their dreams and make them a reality.

The act of pulling energy from the fade costs mana or energy from the mage itself, limiting the number of spells they can cast and the size/ power of the spell. However, should they have a somnaborium or orb, the portion of the fade they're calling upon already exists on this part of the veil. It's like Google Fiber. For magic. It increases the speed at which magic can be brought across the veil and enhances the magical power of the user exponentially.

EDIT: So yeah. It literally allows your dreams, through your will, to become reality.

That is a very cool thought. It definitely seems possible. If you were an entity in the possession of an orb like that, you'd certainly seem godlike. You're basically increasing your 'bucket capacity' for magic. You'd be able to process it quicker and faster without losing energy, and contain any of the dangerous power fluctuations inside the orb itself.

It goes well with the theory that the veil might have been constructed as an 'exploit'. The wall stops any other mages from excelling beyond you, because they physically can't. Meanwhile, anyone in possession of these orb keys can mainline magic like no one's business. If the elven gods were simply immortal magisters, I could definitely see them having created a system like that to maintain the illusion of being all powerful.

The Inquisitor opens up a rift inside him and it tears him apart they then use the orb to close the big rift and that breaks it. Or they absorb it's power and using it to close the rift breaks it, I'm not sure which.

She kinda dropped it and it broke, which annoyed me a little bit tbh..the way she just dropped it like it was nothing.

Nope, it fell to the ground and bounced a little and was in one piece. It only broke after all the huge chunks of rock fell to the ground (remember cory lifted everything into the air). So the logical assumption is it survived how many hundred feet fall, but was crushed under one of the giant boulders.

My theory is that Quizzy holds the foci for the first time since getting the anchor and the foci reacts to that.  So all the power from the foci went into Quizzy and the empty shell just breaks.

I thought it was because the quizzie just used all the power from the orb and the physical breaking of it was a visual representation of it being totally used up and useless. Does that make any sense?

Maybe some of this will be dialouge that will be patched in?  I'd rather not romance him and be intelligent, if that's the case (but the only other people my Lavellan are into are Cass and Sera and one is straight and the other will end up dumping her).

I may be exaggerating a bit.  The romance is really worth it(though if I had the option I would romanced Cassandra).  It's got this sort of tragic fairy tale thing going on making it quite lovely and I'm hopeful that any ending they have will play out really well.  There are points - certainly - that I wish they would have made her less starry-eyed because it's kind of incongrous to this strong-willed character they built.  Like with any of the relationships in DA:O - you could needle them a bit or question them. Same thing with Anders or Fenris - especially Anders.  So I wish there was a bit of that with him.

So considering I have been posting some pretty sad videos, I think I will post a final one. This is where I would like my Lavellan to be at some point.

Except when it landed after closing the breach it was in one piece and not glowing.

I think if you say you could try to fix the orb, Solas says that wouldn't restore what was lost.

As in gone. I suspect that whatever energy was in it, it's not inside Quizzy, it's just lost, as he says. And that happened by the orb breaking, not the other way around.

Does that make sense?

He always gave me the impression that it was really important by the way he spoke about it.  She even says that she's sorry at the end, I can't remember the exact dialogue.

Fate or chance... did Fen'Harel's actions really wrought the modern world? Or was it inevitable? Is he trying to adjust a thing that he THINKS he has control over but, in reality, does not? Is he turning in a cycle like Sisyphus continuously pushing that boulder up the hill only to have it roll back down again?

That sounds really hard, DragonRacer. I'm sorry you had to go through that. It means a lot that you shared yourself with us.

I was wondering the same thing about Solas, that maybe he was trying to help, but that there is always going to be conflict of some kind. He can't fix conflict.

There is considerable value in hope against all odds.

And other times it's all you can do to just do the best with what you have. Or even let go. And that's certainly enough.

There are some things about "human" nature that you just can't fix.

...unless he's considering making people more "pure" and spirit-like?

He did seem awfully curious about the Inquisitor's "spirit" and how the mark had affected/changed him/her.
