So this made me think about how the Fade is the world of dreams and that it is created by, basically, dreamers.

 

What if it's the opposite?  What if the Fade is the "real world" and physical Thedas is nothing but a manifestation of thoughts that became "solid" over time?

And if you want to get really meta, the Fade is the realm of the imagination of the game writers, Gaider, Weekes and all others at Bioware,. It's ever changing and yet it's static since nothing has been written down yet. And Thedas is the "physical" realm they create out of it :-P

I actually rather liked Mother Giselle.  I'm not religious but my parents both are, and she reminds me of some of the people at their church: well-meaning and generally decent, with a few painfully obvious blind spots.  A couple of years ago, I think she might have driven me batty, but nowadays, I'm pretty much ok with characters like that.

 

As for Dorian, even he says Mother Giselle at least means well, and if the Inquisitor gets all huffy about it, he teases them for not being politically astute.  She's not entirely wrong; having a Tevinter mage at your side isn't good PR.  But neither of my PCs gave a flying f*** about it, and I like to headcanon that my Lavellan dissolved into a fit of hysterical giggles over the "rumors" about her and Dorian.  No rumors about Solas, the guy she just kissed in the Fade and has followed around like a puppy since Haven 

 

My Lavellan was firmly in the "I don't believe in gods" camp, even toward the Dalish pantheon.  She thought there was so much myth bound up in all of it (the Maker, the Creators, even the Stone) that there was really no point arguing, and this world was more important than the next.  She...has to amend that attitude a little after meeting Mythal, though, and probably again after realizing she was hopping into bed with the Dread Wolf.  There's something to be said for humility 

 

This is why I love Aveline so much.  She married a Templar, so we know she's accepting about other people's beliefs, but she has no patience for Chantry bullshit.

Haha maybe. It would depend on your perspective then wouldn't it. Doesn't Solas kind of imply something like that in the fade kiss scene, after Lavellan comments that it isn't real.

The real world is just heavier, where mass keeps its form?

Reminds me of the whole space butterfly thing Weekes joked about.

This idea originally comes from an old Taoist story: One day Chuang Tzu dreamt he was a butterfly, flying around and enjoying itself. Then he suddenly awoke and was Chuang Tzu again. But after he woke he was no longer certain if he was actually the butterfly dreaming he was a man, or a man dreaming he was a butterfly. It's a metaphor for spiritual awakening ...how we are all dreaming, in a sense, and enlightenment to this brings with it uncertainty and confusion.

All this dream talk reminds me of a dream I had earlier in the week.  In the Black City there was the void, and in the void there was a dragon.  And it dreamed of dragons, and when they became real, their bodies became the physical world, and their blood fossilized into lyrium.  I've been thinking about it on and off all week.

Interesting idea, but directly contradicted by several instances in Solas / Cole dialogue that describes Fade as a reflective mirror.  "Without you, there is no us".   Very strong evidence that the Fade is defined by and dependent upon the reality of Thedas, and not the other way around.

While I wouldn't quit playing BioWare games or anything if we had to kill Solas, it would definitely leave a sour taste in my mouth about the Dragon Age series and I'd never be able to fully enjoy Solas' character again. Which means replays of DAI wouldn't happen.

 

Mass Effect's ending still has me tetchy towards the series, for example. I still like it a lot and am actually replaying it right now but it's not the same. The original love isn't there anymore. On a smaller and more petty note, I can't enjoy the character of Joker anymore after his, IMO, creepy romance with EDI (and after a romance with him for Shepard was denied, darn it). That's probably how I would feel if they did Solas' character such a disservice.

I've not played a ME game since I finished ME3, and before that I played it all the time but my love for the series is simply gone.  So many things I didn't like about ME3, and one of them is definitely the utter ruination of EDI and Joker.   I loved EDI in ME2, and Joker in both 1 and 2... that romance in three... yeuch  , painful to watch. 

 

...I actually completely and utterly hate ME3   .

 

If Buffy can kill Angel, my Lavellan can kill Solas.

...but Angel was so annoying in Buffy, he deserved to die    (awesome in Angel though)

 

Being forced to kill Solas would be a game or even series breaker for me, I'm just not interested in that kind of crap in a RPG.

I have a theory that the fade is the real world and so is the earth, they are supposed to be together as one, beautiful and magical.

The veil was thrown up and snapped everything in half, cutting off magic from the earth, except for streams of lyrium, crystallized with the pressure from the veil snapping. Without contact to the fade the deepest lyrium is slowly corrupted by the blight. Eventually all lyrium will be corrupted.

Magic is still passed on, through blood and lyrium, and in areas where the veil is thin and the magic tries to pass through.

This is what cut the magic off from the dwarves, as well, and they started working the Lyrium into the only magic they had access to, runes.

The veil also locked the elven pantheon away from the forgotten ones.

I went Warden!Alistair and Anders.  Whoops.  Though TBH the main reason why I'm so cut up about Solas and Lavellan is that of my three canonical PCs, she's the one who deserves a happy ending the most.  My Hawke went full-bore Villain Protagonist before getting redemption by death, and my Warden, while still a half-way decent person, has a pretty significant selfish and vengeful streak.

 

So of course, in the game where I make the first unambiguously heroic PC I've had in a long time, she goes and falls in love with Mr. Heartbreak Egghead

I mean, the Dread Wolf kissed her like a drowning man, had little self control when it came to romance, once set his own coattails on fire accidentally, enjoys frilly little cakes and snorts when he laughs. So much for a terrifying trickster god.

Uh oh.  Off-topic, I'm just starting to get into BSG, and I really like everyone and the show overall.  Is this going to be another ME3-ish hard turn toward insanity?

There is a certain point where they thought the show was going to be over, and they'd planned (probably the majority) of stuff leading up to that point.

It didn't end.

So yeah, there's some craziness in the ending portions.

The highest compliment I can give it nowadays is that it wasn't as bad as Dexter's ending.

*everyone whose seen Dexter's ending gasps in horror*

EDIT: I'd like to add that I'd recommend skipping Dexter's last few seasons, with the finale being a failure on a grand scale, BSG is different. After a certain story arc is completed quite deep in the stories, there is a dip in the quality.

But considering the quality of BSG, it's still a good show even in its last season. It's just the last half of the last episode that...vexed me.

Loranil, the Dalish elf you can recruit as an agent, he'll tell a Lavellan that all the clans have been talking about them, and they think humans holding a Dalish in such high regard could possibly be a sign of positive change in relations between humans and the Dalish.

Since the Dalish, and I quote, "Dalish clans rarely encounter each other in order to protect themselves; their diaspora is as much of a blessing as is a curse. Since Dalish don't—if ever—keep in contact between other clans...", does his comment mean that the Dalish have recently hold a Arlathvhen after the Breach opened?

That's a fascinating find.

'The Watcher' in general sounds like Dirthamen, keeping an eye on things and ferreting out secrets. The allusion to it protecting people and the wolf statue say Fen'harel. (But then again, Fen'harel statues seem to be placed in every shrine to every god, because he's popular like that. Also he seems to lack his own Temples.)

But what's with the sword and the bleeding and the verbing? It looks like he was betrayed.

Ultimately it would depend on the situation, but as far as just being Fen'Harel goes...I think at this point, my Lavellan understands that most of what she knew about the Dalish is probably wrong. Not only that, but she's experienced first hand what its like to have people take your name and then spin it into something that's far bigger than you actually are. 

 

She would expect a full disclosure though. And he's probably getting a slap.

This is also a possibility. In an ending where their romance is continued, she is absolutely expecting a better tutorage in magic out of this arrangement. Also lessons in elvish.

They pass each other from time to time.  There was actually supposed to be an Arlathvhen in Halamshiral, but outside of a mention in DA2 (Fenris talks about it with Merrill), it hasn't come up.

I think it really depends how she finds out. Like, crazy Solas doing something to tear the world apart, not ok with that. She'd be furious that the man she loved suddenly became a rampaging God and lied to her the whole time. If he returned to Skyhold, or met her somewhere peacefully, she'd be overjoyed to see him again, then would slap him and sit him down and force him to explain what the heck was his problem. Then she would listen calmly and try to understand why he did what he did, and would probably forgive him, but only after he made her believe he wouldn't leave her again. If he insisted he still had to do things alone, she would probably just follow him. If he managed to escape her, she'd be forced to move on with her life as it's not worth it to waste her time on someone who won't treat her as an equal. Etcetera. It just depends on how it unfolds really. She wants more than anything to forgive him, but she also has to be prepared to lose him.
