I'm sorry this happened. :( I would feel terrible. Here, have a Solas:

Pwr2VTY.png

I back up my saves on PC and then upload the file to cloud storage. I'm reminded by your post I need to update this file tomorrow.

*hugs Solas*  <3 Thanks guys! I'm sorry for whining.

I was just about to back them up, too! They are still there. I just can't get to them. My profile won't recognize me. Stupid account locking!

My fiance got me the PC version as an early birthday gift. I love that guy. He enables my unhealthy obsessions. I feel spoiled. :D

More Solas just because.

So I wrote a thing: http://archiveofouro...g/works/3981424

It's the first fic I was able to complete in ....2? weeks or so (real life things and also attempts to work on an original story intervened). I started this initially, kind of hated it, and then finished it yesterday. I realized I needed to take out a different (smutty  part and let this one just be. It takes place after Halamshiral with my Lavellan needing to go away for a few days to deal with some noble and is set on the day she comes back.

The smut bit shall return as its own thing sometime. -_-

I'm really upset and in need of blanket fort support. :( I kind of lost access to my 500+ hours of save files. Something happened and my PS4 profile won't recognize me anymore. ;____;  But I don't think there's anything that can be done about it. I just need to start over....I just wanted to complain. All of the lore talk/theories on here are getting me through this though! So Thank you, Solavellans! <3

Not really Solas related, but elfy paintings!

Wow, almost 14 years ago...

And Shrek was where I heard the song Hallelujah for the first time.

Ever since I found out that Weekes listened to Hallelujah while writing some of Solas' scenes, I've never heard that song the same way again. :(

And I'll probably get Solavellan feels too when that song comes up while watching Shrek again... Ugh!

WEEEEEEEEKES!!!!

That part of the movie made me cry, and that song makes me cry a lot of the time. Also, Solavellan feels are inevitable. We need that DLC :(

"Yavana: Your heart beats with the old blood, as well. Where do you think it comes from? It sings of a time when dragons ruled the skies. A time before the mysteries were forgotten."

This,Kieran says to the inquisitor "Your blood is very old"  The inquisitor has something to do with the return of the dragons i wonder?

She says the first line to Alistair, right?  Alistair has both the Theirin bloodline AND elven blood from his mother Fiona.  I think that might be what Yavana is referring to.  The "Your blood is very old" line is what he says to an elven quizzy, probably referencing the same thing.

Considering quizzy can murder every single high dragon s/he runs across, regardless of race, I don't think quizzy has to do with the dragons specifically.  More likely the elves, since even a non-elven quizzy winds up with elven magic through the Anchor and Solas's orb.  Poor muggle!quizzies, just trying to be normal while all the s*** around them is going magically haywire

While he's not entirely trustworthy, the Architect is at least rational enough to learn from his mistakes when they horribly blow up in his face and not attempt to repeat them (unlike Corypheus) and he recognised that his plan in The Calling was folly. The Sentient Darkspawn are at least a step in the right direction since some of them (like the Messenger) can turn out to be entirely non-hostile, which is altogether far better than the always chaotic evil creature they were before their awakening?

Besides, he's not wrong when he points out that all he's doing is using the blood of their "enemy" to grant them new powers, in an attempt to end the Blights once and for all... so how is that any different from what the Warden's do?

The Architect reminds me a lot of Legion.  He's not a bad dude, and he can be a potent ally.  But it's still important to step carefully; what he thinks of as beneficial and what normal people think of as beneficial could be two wildly different things.

Though he honestly doesn't seem to remember that he's a magister, unless I missed something.  I wonder why Cory remembers, and the Architect doesn't?

(Sorry if this has been covered already in the lore posts.  Haven't totally caught up on thread yet)

So before I retire for the night, I just wanted to show you guys my latest artwork. It's not Solas but Felassan is just as good, right?

So yeah, that's how I more or less pictured Felassan to look like in my head. I waffled between giving him Dirthamen or Falon'Din's vallaslin but chose the latter at the end. xD

It seems all the magisters wandered pretty confused for centuries, acting as typical emissaries for the First Blight. Corypheus only 'awoke' on his own when Hawke broke open his prison. So I think the Wardens' stasis spell may have been able to cut him off from the Blight hive-mind, or whatever is trying to get people to go to the Black City.

The Architect, on the other hand, has had no such luck. He may have been the one to be eaten. He may be lying. *shrug* Maybe he's never been cut off from the Black City Investment Bank, and that's why he doesn't remember, he's still in the 'a thousand years in the dark, confused' stage of things.

And yeah, the Architect is like a very dark mirror of Legion. :D

He's definitely got that weird amoral mad scientist thing going? I mean, his plan in The Calling does have a twisted kind of logic to it, that if everyone has the Taint, then no-one will have any reason to fight the Darkspawn anymore?

It's not a good solution, but it is a solution... even if it's daft and would never work?

I think the reason why the Architect doesn't remember but Corypheus does might be because something happened to the Architect over the past 1000 years that caused him to lose his memory? Or perhaps for some people, the only way to psychologically cope with immortality is to start forgetting things?

(It might be the same with Golems? Caridin never had a control rod so he's been active for over a thousand years and had his obsession with destroying the Anvil to keep him sane, whereas Shale has been immobilised at least twice (that we know of), once in Honnleath and once in the Deep Roads, where Wilhelm found her? That would have to be psychologically scarring and could account for her amnesia?)

Perhaps this is why Corypheus is still more or less himself, because he skipped over the past millennia sleeping, due to the Wardens locking him away?

I'm curious as to how the other Magisters would compare with Corypheus and the Architect.

I mean Corypheus was a quiet family man and priest (geddit, quiet, cuz' Dumat...I'll shut up now.) and even seemed to treat the head of his elven slaves semi-decently. But he became obsessive as the gods went silent, and turned to more blood sacrifice. Not a nice man, by any means. By the time we meet him, he's still arrogant, booming, short-tempered, but also surprisingly poignant when privately mourning what's happened to Thedas. His reasons for becoming a god are surprisingly noble. He doesn't want people's prayers to fall unanswered as his did. He wants actual gods to look after the (terrified, enslaved) populace. He dies as tragically as he lived, but with a really busted jaw.

The Architect is a man with a plan. He's very intelligent, but he doesn't understand people. It's not clear if this is because of a sort of darkspawn fugue state, immortality memory loss, or if he was just like that as a human too. He's polite and apologetic for his deeds, which make them all the more eerie. He's a lot more focused on pragmatism and solving the problem of the Blight. While Corypheus descends into a rage when his plans fail, the Architect exits stage left and comes up with a new one. The big difference is that Corypheus apparently holds the darkspawn in contempt and refuses to use them, preferring his red lyrium creatures and the Blight as a power source, while the Architect's schtick is helping the darkspawn survive as a people and freeing them from the Old Gods' thrall.

Can I just check that others came to same conclusion that I did, that The Architect is the same Architect mentioned in the Canticle of Silence - another name for High Priest of Urthemiel?

Spoiler

To me, this may explain why The Architect wakes Urthemiel in particular, since he has a long established relationship with him/her. His god gives him the standard promises of rising him to Godhood. However, the promises to our Architect are a little more specific - appealing to his particular interests and talents from his previous artistic life. "I shall give you designs to rival heaven... and you will build a paradise on Earth." The ultimate creative powers - designing life? Seems to be what he has spent recent years doing... attempting to include darkspawn in his designs for peaceful "paradise".

Is that the same conclusion as others?

And coupled with the analysis of Immortality in Zathrian, explaining that an immortal life "focuses" a sort of dominant nature above all else, my guess is that Corypheus became increasingly hell-bent on revenge on the "Gods" for his disappointment, and the Architect... became sort of content with putting his feet up with his studies for a few centuries, until he came up with a plan!

Also, playing through again and mentions of butterflies <3

Spoiler

I totally love the butterfly = light, moth = flame theory, madrar <3 I'm wondering if the Qunari have learned to avoid "the golden light", for that very reason?

P.S. You guys talking about The Witcher 3! Friends keep saying I would like it, but it just seems so.... male.... to me! And I can't trust them for an honest review since they tease me alllll the time. Do you guys recommend it?

Going to play Dragon Age Origins again soon and I'm afraid of falling for Alistair again. It feels so wrong! He's not even elvhen T_T

Damn you Alistair and your stupid voice and stupidness!

Then I have to play DA2 after Origins ... never really connected with that game (How are there people so attached to that game?) I've romanced Fenris and Anders before, but never really loved them.

Someone tell me I won't fall for Alistair again!

Yes.  The Architect we meet in DA:A is the same dude who was the High Priest of Urthemiel.  Poor baby.

Perhaps this is why Corypheus is still more or less himself, because he skipped over the past millennia sleeping, due to the Wardens locking him away?

Oooh, that makes sense.  The Wardens basically froze him in time when they put him in stasis.  When he wakes up, he acts as though he should still be in the Tevinter Imperium.  He has no concept of how much time has passed.  Maybe if he'd been wandering about for 1000 years, he wouldn't remember what had happened to him either.

It's been a while since I played Legacy.  Does anyone remember why the Wardens locked up Corypheus specifically?  Did they know he was the one responsible for breaching the Black City?  Or did he just happen to be the unlucky magister whom they stumbled across first?

Nope.  The Alistair love is real

Funny thing, though; it was DA:I that rekindled my love of Alistair.  I first played Origins when I was 20, and upon replaying it five years later, I was like "OMG Alistair, you're cute but STFU ABOUT DUNCAN ALREADY."  But then DA:I came along, with ten-years-older Warden!Alistair, and I basically swooned all over my monitor.  He grows up real well!

WoT Vol 2 says that the Wardens locked him away because of his ability to resurrect in Wardens/Blighted creatures. It does not say how they stumbled upon him.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that our Architect waifu is the Architect of the Works of Beauty. :D

But it's interesting that, according to the Chant, Urthemiel outright appeared and told the Architect to go along with it.

I would recommend The Witcher in general. I'm getting my paws on it later today. :D

And what's wrong with it being male? :P I enjoy works that are typically considered 'female'. You don't get to customize a character like in DA, but Geralt is a lovely character that's more complex than he seems, and it's a very immersive world with a great story and cast of memorable characters. (Iorveth! Roche! Dandelion! Letho! Jacques! Vesemir! Radovid! Phillipa! *flails*) It's rather difficult for me to tell you if you'd like it because A) I don't have it yet  and C) I don't know your tastes well enough. If you like the elf racism storylines in DA, they certainly come up in The Witcher. If you like how much DA draws from mythology, The Witcher plays host to all manner of Slavic and Arthurian myths.

It's C because whenever I type 'bee' it comes out as B. Which is annoying.

Hmm.  Maybe the Architect can do that too, and we just didn't know it back in Awakening.  Maybe getting killed and respawning causes your memory to slowly fade if you do it too often?  Corypheus did it three times that we know: once after Hawke opened the prison to Larius/Janeka, once to a random Grey Warden after the Conclave explosion (not shown, but IMO highly likely), and once at the Temple of Mythal.

But Cory's respawn ability was tied to the Horcrux dragon, and once it was dead, he couldn't body surf any more.  Does that mean he had a Horcrux dragon back when the Wardens first captured him?  *head hurts*
