And we've discussed that he's not perfect before, but most of the people who post in here, and I'd actually be inclined to say ALL of the people who post in here generally love the character. You won't get a discussion about how much he is hated in here.

That's fine. Never said people had to agree with me. But people who don't like him should also be allowed to talk without people doing eyerolls and such.

Yes, because how dare someone want the person responsible for many terrible things to be brought to justice or stopped from causing even more damage. 

 

Hasn't everyone in DA caused major or minor destruction at some point?  Hawke accidently unleashes Coryfish on the world, Josie murderd a man, Leliana spent many years ruining lives and enjoying the fun of it, Cole used to kill people because he didn't know that was wrong, Cullen once considered mages to be less than human, Merrill used blood magic and summoned demons to fix a mirror she knew had already killed at least one of her clan, Anders blew up a Chantry and caused his friend to corrupt into a demon, the Warden can kill a bunch of refugees before they even leave Lothering...

 

The list goes on like that.

 

Yes, what Solas did was stupid, but he had no idea what was going to happen.  And the moment everything went to hell he went to the Inquisition and offered his help, despite being an apostate and an elf (two things that a Chantry allied organisation are not likely to be pleased with).  He approves of every little thing you do to help people out.  In fact the cutscene where the Herald helps the crossroads has Solas wander off to help some refugees!  We have no idea what Solas' long term plans are, or if they should be stopped.

 

I'm sorry if I seemed hostile in my replies, but you did come into a fan thread talking about how much you wanted Solas to get the non-hug kind of comuppance.

 

I love this, as long as there's also a rabbit in there. There should be more rabbits in stories.

I know I've seen discussion in here before from folks who didn't like Solas.  It was fine.  But I don't think those people came in here being combative from the get go, following from a different thread, and chastising someone for something they said elsewhere.  I personally don't have a problem discussing the more negative sides of Solas's character, nor having people who don't like him also participate. 

No one is ever going to respond well in a fan discussion thread if you come across like you're just trying to stir the pot.  I can't speak for anyone else but I welcome all facets of debate about Solas.  Just as long as people are being respectful.

Eye-rolls are largely deployed when someone makes a hyperbolic statement. Coming here and saying that Solas should be fed to a giant snake for being an obvious baddie IS a hyperbolic statement that does little for actual discussion.

 

It's one thing to dislike a character and have a constructive discussion about him, his faults or reasons you believe he indeed is responsible for everything that was bad, even if we don't yet know a full picture - it's another to make definite claims about a character and apparently the only one right fate he deserves.

I`m little bit confused, did we get more info on how the orb made its way to corypheus? And that Solas really wants to make more damage? Maybe he really does, but we do not know for sure. So, yeah let`s burn the witch, it was him or maybe it was the neighbor, but let`s burn him to be sure =)

Agreed completely with Lucinia. I have no problem, and in fact like hearing others opinion on characters I love and even dislike. A debate and normal discussion is fine. But I don't like when someone is intentionally trying to cause issues (if that's the case) or bash with little basis other than "I don't like them." It's fine you don't but be respectful to others. There are characters I don't like in DA but I see better qualities I admire and do like of them, I don't off handily throw them to hell and try to prove other's wrong for liking them. It hasn't been done in this thread yet from what I've seen but it can quickly get that way from what I did read so let's just keep things tasteful.

Thanks for the various warnings about reddit. I think I may need to evaluate just how much time I actually spend online that it will be impossible to avoid them. All the people on my tumblr feed tag pretty well, so I just have to blacklist a few terms. The other places I go might be a bit more problematic.

 

Btw, does anyone know if origins gets the patch even while your playing, or do you have to shut down origins and restart it for it to patch? I just want to know if I should keep my game running so I can hang onto my mods a little bit longer, b/c I didn't expect the patch and I didn't have a chance to turn off the connection to the internet.

Hawke: As you said, accidentally. Plus the seal holding Corypheus at bay was weakening, so he was getting out one way or the other. And Hawke made sure that he was dead, obviously not knowing he could resurrect himself. 

Josephine: Not even close to murder. Accidentally kills a man while defending herself from said man. 

Leliana: No arguments there. 

Cole: True, though that brings up the whole child defense of them not knowing right from wrong. 

Merrill: Took every precaution and caused no destruction. It was the Keeper who caused all the problems. 

Anders: Definitely no arguments there. But you are able to stop him from causing more. 

Warden: That is optional content.

Solas gave an orb to Corypheus for him to unlock it for Solas since he was too weak after his slumber. He knew very well that Corypheus didn't have good intentions since he knows who and what Corypheus is. Then he murders Flemeth/Mythal to steal her power to add to his own and now is going to continue his mission and considering he is the Dread Wolf that is most likely not a good thing.

Agreed completely with Lucinia. I have no problem, and in fact like hearing others opinion on characters I love and even dislike. A debate and normal discussion is fine. I have yet to be disrespectful to people who have not been disrespectful first, and the time I was I immediately edited since I saw it was being disrespectful and didn't want that.
