I usually do the same, invent a name and a meaning based on how it sounds. I'm going through an Italian history phase right now so I've got a lot of Renatas and Caterinas running around. I named my male dirt bag Trevallyan Cesare. 

 

Nerwen (spelled differently from Cee's Lavellan) is one of the birth names of Galadriel.

I am so done because of Solas that even Witcher 3 had me thinking of him. It has a Veil, and elf god trying to save his people... UGH! I will not let Solas' fate be like his!

I plan on allying with the Templars, killing the Sentinals, allying with the Wardens, letting Morrigan drink from the Well, putting Gaspard on the throne without Briala and aiming for Viv as Divine (apparently this will be very hard without keeping Celene alive, though).

Talking about my tiny ball of muder and hate has made me re-merge my Cadash mods to play as her.

I don't know if you found a name you like but I find it's nice to construct complex names, my canon is Eldanehn

"el" - "our"

"da" - "small"

"nehn" - "joy"

And I canon she's a single child and her parents had issues conceiving her.

 

Think about what her parents may call her, it could also be something random, like "I spot with my little eye something that begins with 'T'" "it's a tree, like in last 57 times, we're in a freakin' forest!". I think it's fun thinking about how the character name was chosen.

My real name for example was chosen at random, my big sister (at the time 10 years old) opened a botanical book and pointed at word she found suiting   My name translates to "blossom".

 

Lastly, since Elven doesn't have really clear rules you could do a lot of things, I think you could even conjugate two words and eliminate double letters - "shiral" (journey) and "len" (child) could become Shiralen.

I was trying to think of some kind of first kind type of name that Dalish would give. And I thought "oOOooo Our First Tree, what would that be?"(yes, my brain is rhyming today, not good) so this spawned.

No, our top movies here are Cars, My Little Pony and Winnie the Pooh.

 

All three I enjoy by the way. Especially Winnie the Pooh. He's awesome.

I'm sure if you wanted your child to have a name that is consistent with elven lore, that signifies she's First in her clan, that you have to make up yourself from several hundred available words, most of which sound weird or have dark symbolism, it would be pretty difficult. 

 

Now that I'm thinking about this: when your character was born they didn't know she would be First, so her name does not necesarily have to be related to her being First, right?
