They are the big missing puzzle piece that must connect, yet don't connect as of yet to everything else going wrong. All we know is Solas is terrified of them all dying out, so I suspect they might be sealing something. Possibly the Titans? Maybe that's why they say they will awaken. When the last 2 OG fall, whatever Solas did to them will be undone?
