Maybe he would have disappeared.

Why did one of the writers say 'spoilers' about Felassan's vallaslin. I mean what.

Which vallaslin was it? Was it a Fen'harel vallaslin? Is that why it's a spoiler?

Don't see Solas as a cold-blooded murder... but then my baby is trying to destroy the world with me and everyone I love still in it, sooo... maybe? Lol.

What was it he said to us in trespasser... for a time Briala controlled a section of the eluvians... but something something... and then he had to override the magic personally. Now he controls all of it. Could be be referring to that whole business with Felassan?

Yes, I think this is what it refers to.

The part in the middle you omitted is Solas saying his agent was supposed to take the eluvian network from her but failed. By the agent he means Felassan.

They never revealed whose vallaslin he wore.

My guess is Mythal because of her relationship with Solas. But there might be a lot we still don't know.

Hmm... he said the first of his people are not so easily killed. Is that just in reference to the evanuris... or all the elves in his time, do you think? Could this Felessan be alive in some form if he is also an ancient elf?

Ironically enough, I do see Solas has a cold-blooded murderer. But that's the thing - Felassan's murder wasn't terribly cold-blooded, especially if you believe that it was done simply because he defied his leader rather than for any practical reason. I don't see Solas flying into a blind rage and axing Felassan for his defiance. I do see Solas deciding Felassan had turned from an asset to a liability, and one he couldn't afford.

Pragmatic and cold as hell, but given the character in question, it makes more sense than some "You have failed me" cliche. To me, at least.

(Although, speaking honestly, I still feel like Felassan's murder wasn't entirely thought-through.)

We know so little that I really can't tell.

But since Solas did kill Felassan, he must've thought that the chance of Felassan actually dying is at least very high.

My personal 100% headcanon: If not only Mythal but Leliana can be killed and then come back, then so can Felassan.

I am deeply in denial about him. I refuse to let him simply die.

Speaking of Mythal... any of you guys ever wonder if they were more than friends at one point? He was awfully upset that the evanuris killed her. I was surprised to learn that that was the line they crossed to push him into action.

Oh, that reminds me... what did he do to her at the end of the main game? I thought he killed her and took her powers. But now... that can't be it, right? He was so pissed at the evanuris for killing her. Why would he harm her, too? So... what did he do?

Yeah, I can see that, too. Should have said I don't want to see Solas as a cold-blooded murderer. Can totally see him being ruthless and cruel in his pragmatism, though.

I've never read the book so I don't know, but who relates this story about Felassan being killed by his leader because of his defiance? Can their account be trust, or was this like another one of those dalish tales that contain half-truths and misinformation?

If you return to Val Royeaux after the end game you can hear a servant speaking about having a nightmare where a woman calling herself Mythal spoke to him. So Flemeth might be dead, but I think Mythal is a very different story...

Lol. I just read the wiki on him. He seems like such an interesting character. Would love to encounter him in some form.

More than just interesting, I think he's a very beautiful character. From the moment he appears in that book till the very end, he's a bottomless well of snark and feels.

I really recommend The Masked Empire. It has many other great characters as well.

The first part of what Cole says, "His friend had to die because he thought they were people...." Felassan had started to see Briala as people. When he meets with Solas in the fade at the end of the book, he even says they should give Briala a chance. So, Solas does what he thinks he needs to do. Fast forward a few years and now Solas has found himself in a tight spot, he's started to see the gremlins as real. He can even fall in love with one of those gremlins.

Felassan is the only reason I finished reading TME. I enjoyed his snarky and humorous comments. He was a breath of fresh air among all the Orlesians.

The snark is even more impressive once you find out the truth about him. I posted this earlier on the smut thread (I am having a Felassan feels night), but I'm posting my thoughts here too.

Guess who has:
  • seen a lot of war
  • seen his people suffer
  • seen his home and everything he held dear turn to ashes
  • been alone for thousands of years
  • worked to bring back their world at the cost of thousands of innocent lives
  • realized those who will die are real people
  • felt conflicted about what he was doing?

Felassan.

Dude needs a lot more credit for going through all of this and handling it like a snarky champ.

In that last scene he was alone. He could break down, sob, angst, but instead he was joking to himself. We saw a few of his thoughts and they were humorous.

This guy just redefines strength and bravery.

He is truly best elf.

I'm hoping that somehow he is not dead dead, and that he can return in the future. Perhaps his soul is floating around in the Fade like Mythal's? I mean, doing so would probably incapacitate him for as long as Solas needed since it took Mythal "ages" to find Flemeth. *Raising team Optimism flag*

Okay. At your recommendation, I just bought it for my kindle. It's even on sale.

Oh dear. That's so sad. But then... at least he's not a hypocrite about it. The inquisitor may be real to him, but he's still going to continue his plan to destroy us. That's either laudable dedication and/or exasperating stubbornness. And... well, I've always thought he plans to die with us... what with him saying he walks the path of Din'anshiral. Maybe whatever he has to do will cost him his life and well as ours.

That’s what I believe about him too. Felassan will pull a Leliana. One day he'll walk out of the Fade with a Frostbite grin and in his full snarkalicious magnificence.

I really have a thing for the sarcastic and ironic ones, and Felassan fits that description to a tee.

You know, a month or so after Inquisition came out, Weekes made some comment on the break-up in Crestwood, about how Solas was ready to just give it up and be with Lavellan, but he pulled back at the last second because he realized he'd be "betraying himself." And even then, I remember getting caught up on the wording. It seemed like such a strange way of phrasing things - no "he'd be stringing Lavellan along" or "he'd be doing something that (From his perspective) is unspeakably selfish," but instead it was somehow a betrayal of himself.

At the time I chalked it up to simple weirdness, but it does make a lot more sense now. He was making the same "mistake" he killed Felassan for, and to let things continue - worse, to let it go and be with Lavellan - would mean he betrayed himself just as surely as Felassan had.

It makes me wonder if some of Solas' stubbornness about the situation is born of the sunken cost fallacy - that he's sacrificed so much, friends, innocents, loved ones - to simply give up would mean their death was for nothing. He just... killed them for nothing. So he keeps going, because if he can't bring them back, at least he can give them meaning.

I dunno. Something to think about.
