The dota image is awesome. <3

Thank you very much :3. I sorta screwed up my post of it on the Dota 2 subreddit, and was reminded of how unforgiving subs of that genre are.. I'll just hide in the blanketfort now .

It's utterly weird that it was 71 degrees F at home for me. And you're all the way over there in what, the early summer?

It's the first month of summer, yas. We actually got to 36c (96.8F) the other day, which last happened in the 1970s :o.

I think it's cool that we see different stars.

Sigh, Nipuni is going to be the end of me.. Everyday I'm changing my mobile wallpaper with some of her art.... :D

Anyway! Fernrain you are the luckiest person ever, you got a free DAI collector edition with tarots?Aww, me so jelly right now!

And yes, I believe Solas got tired of always walking with bare feet and cold clothes, so he decided to add proper metal boots and a wolf pelt to keep warm during his travels this time :D

I'm gonna go draw now, let's see if finally Ican come up with something decent wth this tablet... :D

I think I'm....think I'm starting to crush on Patrick Weekes hnnngg

I'm so with you. We tweet a lot and I'm just like.... hey.... how you doin'? He's very nice about my star-struck-ness.

I find a certain sick pleasure in experiencing scenarios that are even more horrible than canon Solavellan. It's like, is that all you got BioWare? My heart can take more! :P

But I definitely love the fluffy stuff, especially a certain grad school AU, ahem...

I've got a Solas/Bull triangle in motion in a current fiction, and have a full near-novel-length outline for a Solasmance but it's just a question of TIIIIIIME and whether I should even invest the time. But I'm kind of addicted. Yet... I have a deadline for my next novel in Jan and I have been so bad about... um... that. I would basically move to Skyhold, just sayin'. So... I'm not sure it's something I should pursue. But reading others has been wonderful.

Meanwhile I'm with seira_san -- please do try Mass Effect if you leave DAI (but why would you?). Because: Awesome. Not quite as awesome (although I adore it) but: yeah. pretty darn amazing.

*sneaks this into your fic somehow with permission from Felassan*

Don't even tease me, I just finished MASKED EMPIRE on y'all's recommendations and... I just can't. Stupid fiction. Stupid dread wolf (I LOVE YOU! Call me!). Stupid everything! Felassan! <sobs> (Call me also!)

His Tower tarot card has a wolf with three eyes on one side of its head.

Solase.png

Solas means pride. Pride Demons have six eyes, three on each side.

This? Is genius. Especially as after my third playthrough of Trespasser with some notable different decisions on Lavellan #2 (I was curious since I super-rushed playthrough 2), there are definite hints that Solas does have a TANGIBLE different face/visage so his "not wanting you to see his other face" may not just be metaphorical. I'd still date him though. (I know! SOBS!)

My Lavellan was a mature hunter (rogue) in her late 20s or early 30s; curious, quite self-possessed and with a good sense of humour. She won't take any crap, even from an ancient elven mage with godlike powers!

(snip)

Two wolves, worlds apart.

Something neat that I hadn't noticed before (surprising, since I have played the end through about 30 times, probably) is that whatever option you choose for Lavellan at the beginning of the conversation sets her facial expressions for the rest of the conversation.  So, if you pick the angry "You lied to me!" response, she always looks a little angry.  But if you take the more openminded "My people were wrong about you" response, she looks more cool and collected.  I bet she looks more sad if you pick the "Ironically, yes" response.

First off, loved the view of the two wolves. So wonderful and so perfect.

And also, the facial thing is so much fun! I noticed that too. I played my first straight playthrough as a Solasmancer more angry than sad, and just did a superfast replay of Trespasser with a sadder, more accepting version of that second Lavellan (previously she'd skipped Descent/JoH so I wanted to do it right in order), and it was interesting that your main initial reaction colored everything after (sadface/angryface/etc.). I noticed that too.

I want to see test Solas now.

Before they did most of Solas' writing and hired GDL, he was voiced by Microsoft SAM text-to-speech.

As a freelance writer, I've worked with many text to speech companies over the past decade, so I got a smile out of this -- it's a wonderful field. However -- nothing can replace our darling Gareth David-Lloyd for Solas, but seriously, voice tech is pretty spookily amazing these days, including both emotive, child and all sorts of voice variations. But live actors of this caliber will always be irreplaceable.

The idea of that saying "Getting you into bed is just an enjoyable side benefit" has me cracked up something fierce.

Yeah but as I'm sure other FF writers have noted, it's TORTURE. TORTURE. I mean, we cannot leave that alone. Nope. Sigh.

Cool thing to spot re: Solas' walk, Midnight Tea! I thought the Solas design team had just chosen to subtly troll the players by giving him the loose-limbed saunter of a wolf. I have seen them move similar to that (except, you know, quadrupedally) when they're not in a hurry. I've lived and worked within their range in northern Canada for most of the past 11 years.  I don't see them often, and it's always a treat when I do.

His face is also reminiscent of a wolf's head, I find.

I very much agree. I love the design of Solas as a character -- the long, lean body, the angular long face, the gorgeous eyes, long nose, and sensual mouth. Yet he's not an obvious dreamboat (like Cullen, hee) immediately, which makes it even better. Yet at several moments on replay you can see the wolf in his face and body and it's just so subtle and lovely. I also love that he is presented as a cold character yet is utterly opposite in actuality -- he's fierce and passionate throughout underneath.

Merry Xmas everyone!! (Just finished my xmas dinner lol and now chilling in bed..).
I know all we want for Xmas is more Solas in our lives.. I hope this wish comes true!

This obsession with Solas is getting so out of hand for me it makes me do / imagine weird things!!

Hey at least you have your dignity. I'm, like, posting 4 times per day. It's so embarrassing. You're doing way better than me with fascinating daydreams about the Dread Wolf. Also, are you on any sleep meds, and if so, what are they? We wants them... (kidding)

Happy holidays to all my Blanketfort Baes from Father Elf !!! ✨ ✨
I hope the festive season finds you well and is what you wish it to be. Sending you my love :)

Yay! The voice from the mountaintop! Merry merry, Solas, and thank you for such warm welcomes and such a wonderful place to share. Sending many blanketfort hugs (and nugs) in return.

Same goes to all of you. Thank you for making me so welcome.

(Sorry about all the likes and postages. It's an addiction. I'm working on a cure. Soon. Seriously. Maybe. Kind of. Sort of. Sigh.)

As I was reading World of Thedas last night I found a bit about Pharamond, who reversed the rite of tranquility:

Those who encountered Pharamond upon his return from Adamant found his disposition in stark contrast to his years spent without emotion. Every emotion was heightened. He was quick to cry, was wrought by guild, and laughed uncontrollably at the smallest jokes.

This makes me think if Solas reverses the veil situation, will he change accordingly? The spirit of 'Remorse' has yet to be revealed.

Happy holidays, y'all!

I had a sudden revelation (heh, no pun intended) about Solas that maybe will come as obvious to some, but I just couldn't help sharing it. I thought this might be the place for it  :D

Okay, remember how Solas' name means pride? Remember how that mission in DAI was called, What Pride Has Wrought? And remember how he was supposed to be the god of rebellion? Well, I was just thinking about all that when all of a sudden it dawned on me. But no way, I thought. But it's just so eerily perfect, I thought.

Ready for it? Solas seems to be at least partly based on, well, Lucifer (this is the part where someone who had already pointed this out ages ago rolls their eyes xD). Pride is sometimes referred to as the source of all sin because it's often held responsible for the Fall. The Fall refers to two separate but related events: Adam and Eve's fall from Eden and Lucifer and his angels' fall from Heaven. In both cases, it occurred because the fallen persons were trying to usurp God's power. This is original sin, as a direct result of which the world becomes fallen, tainted.

Lucifer is the quintessential rebel and some portrayals of him are fairly sympathetic, even coming from deeply religious individuals like say, John Milton. As a punishment for his actions he gets thrown into the land of the dead, the underworld e.g. hell.

Can you see where I'm going with this? Solas rebels against God, or the gods in this case. As a result, we get a "fallen" world corrupted by original sin e.g. literally Pride. This mirrors the way the Old Gods fell, also because of pride. But while the Old Gods carried humanity with them, according to the Chantry's story at least,  Solas caused the fall of the Elvhen from Arlathan, and the corruption of their race as a result. Fun fact: in Revelations, a creature that symbolizes Lucifer/Satan is, wait for it, a seven-headed dragon.

It's curious, to say the least, and I doubt it wasn't an influence. As for what this means for the future, well, the only way to restore paradise is through the Apocalypse, which is not surprising considering our friend's plan. Get cozy for that

I often wonder if Sandal's prophecy about "the magic will come back" refers to Solas destroying the veil. Perhaps the writers will subvert our expectations and Sandal will be talking about something else entirely.

Given the last two comments, this seems a good time to post the Canticle of Exaltations from the Chant of Light, which prophesizes the return of the Maker (who is credited with the creation of the Veil, though we know now that it was Solas. Is Solas the Maker? Only of what became Modern Thedas, due to his creation of the Veil, but of course, not the world itself :P). Anyway, this is how Andrastians think the world will be reborn, which seems to include the coming of the Herald, the return of the Titans, the Evanuris, the Qunari Invasion, an Elven Rebellion and the destruction of the Veil:

The Chant of Light

Canticle of Exaltations: Prophecy

Preludium

(1) Lady of Perpetual Victory, your praises I sing!
Gladly do I accept the gift invaluable
Of your glory! Let me be the vessel
Which bears the Light of your promise
To the world expectant.

The vision begins

(2) The air itself rent asunder,
Spilling light unearthly from the
Waters of the Fade,
Opening as an eye to look
Upon the Realm of Opposition
In dire judgment.

(3) And in that baleful eye I saw
The Lady of Sorrow, armored in Light,
Holding in her left hand the scepter
Of Redemption. She descended
From on high, and a great voice
Thundered from the top of every
Mountain and pinnacle across creation:

(4) “All heads bow! All knees bend! Every being in the Realm
Of Opposition pay homage, for the Maker of All Things
Returns to you!”

Portents of the Maker’s return

(5) Seven times seventy men of stone immense
Rose up from the earth like sleepers waking at the dawn,
Crossing the land with strides immeasurable,
And in the hollows of their footprints
Paradise was stamped, indelible.

(6) And I heard from the East a great cry
As men who were beasts warred with their brothers,
Tooth and claw against blade and bow,
Until one could no longer be told from the other,
And cursed them and cursed their generations.

(7) And those who slept, the ancient ones, awoke,
For their dreams had been devoured
By a demon that prowled the Fade
As a wolf hunts a herd of deer.
Taking first the weakest and frailest of hopes,
And when there was nothing left,
Destroying the bright and bold
By subtlety and ambush and cruel arts.

(8) The ninth sacred mountain upon which rests
The mortal dust of Our Lady ascended
Whole into the heavens, to be given high honor
In the Realm of Dreams forever.
And around it, a chorus of spirits sang:
“Whatsoever passes through the fire
Is not lost, but made eternal;
As air can never be broken nor crushed,
The tempered soul is everlasting!”

(9) And I looked up and saw
The seven gates of the Black City shatter,
And darkness cloaked both realms.

Andraste gives Drakon his destiny

(10) I covered my face, fearful,
But the Lady took my hands from my eyes,
Saying, “Remember the fire. You must pass
Through it alone to be forged anew.
Look!  Look upon the Light so you
May lead others here through the darkness,
Blade of the Faith!”

The Maker returns

(11) In dread I looked up once more
And saw the darkness warp and crumble,
For it was thin as samite,
A fragile shroud over the Light
Which turned it to ash.

(12) And the Maker, clad in the majesty of the sky,
Set foot to earth, and at His touch
All warring ceased. The vicious
Beasts lay down and were quieted;
The meek lambs became bold
And rose up, casting aside their shepherds
To dance at the Maker’s feet.

(13) From every corner of the earth
The Chant of Light echoed,
As the Maker walked the land
With Andraste at His right hand.
And they reached the gates of Minrathous,
Where once a terrible fire swept
The Light of redemption from the face of the world,
And there, the Lady of Restitution
Drew her shining sword
And plunged it into the ground at her feet, saying:

The sins of creation are redeemed

(14) “All sins are forgiven!  All crimes pardoned!
Let no soul harbor guilt!
Let no soul hunger for justice!
By the Maker’s will I decree
Harmony in all things.
Let Balance be restored
And the world given eternal life.”

I'm gonna butt myself in, as it is my habit now, and drop the latest chapter of The Bookkeeper here.

It has action! I am so proud. (Joking. About the proud bit. It does have a little of action, just not the fluffy one.)

Chapter 17 (The Puppet) this way.

Not to walk by completely empty handed, a sneak peak of nsfw I am doodling - because Saturday. (The sneak peak is sfw, ofc.)

If anyone hasn't yet read Asunder, I'd definitely recommend it. But be especially prepared for intensified Cole feels.

What happens with regards to Pharamond and the result is fascinating not just for what info we get on the place, time, and process of the parties involved. I wonder if, the possibility you suggest, there are parallels hidden there that we can't see yet.

So far, in every Dragon Age game the main character, be it Hero of Ferelden or Champion of Kirkwall or Inquisitor...You will end up being saved by one of the Elven "deities" .

In DAO & DA2, the Warden and Hawke were saved by Flemeth / Mythal. In DAI, the Inquisitor is saved by Solas / Fen'Harel (twice, once after they came out of the Fade the first time and the second time at the end of Trespasser).

So will Bioware continue the trend and have an Elven "deity" rescue our fourth protagonist ? Perhaps it will be Solas since Mythal did it twice so it would make some sense to have Fen'Harel save the protagonist again. Or would we be saved by some other Elven "deity" the next time ?
