Lucifer is the quintessential rebel and some portrayals of him are fairly sympathetic, even coming from deeply religious individuals like say, John Milton. As a punishment for his actions he gets thrown into the land of the dead, the underworld e.g. hell.
I definitely think the parallels between Solas and Lucifer are deliberate. What's interesting though is that Lucifer does what he does out of a desire to rule ("better to rule in hell than serve in heaven"), while Solas does what he does in order to punish tyrants who murdered the one person trying to make the world better (Mythal).
Given the last two comments, this seems a good time to post the Canticle of Exaltations from the Chant of Light, which prophesizes the return of the Maker
(2) The air itself rent asunder,
Spilling light unearthly from the
Waters of the Fade,
Opening as an eye to look
Upon the Realm of Opposition
In dire judgment.
Really interesting! I also found the wolf metaphor pretty fascinating in there as well.
I just finished Asunder and enjoyed is very much. I'm glad I played the game first so that I had Cole pictured in my mind, as I read.
I'm reading that shortly and am looking forward to it. I just finished (and loved) "Masked Empire," so now I'm going back and doing it all properly with "The Stolen Throne," going in order from there.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays, lethallans! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!
(My week's been really stressful but the holiday was really nice!)
What a fabulous Christmas! (And fiance!) Love that he's actually playing through a Solasmance just to understand your obsession.
I absolutely love that "The Maiden and the Wolf" picture. It's really gorgeous.
I'm trying to play Trespasser right now but I have a super bad migraine so I'm gonna go lie down in a bit. I just wanted to say I love Dorian and Cole's conversations about Solas and feeling his presence. "Solas would understand."
One of the most satisfying things about "Trespasser" for me is how emotionally the other characters relate to us and express themselves if we romanced Solas. It's especially lovely for me after ME3 (which didn't do that so well -- my FemShep was a Thane romancer and (at least until the DLCs) nobody ever mentioned him to her, ever. It made everything feel very strange and lonely. But in Trespasser, our companions really show that they are aware that we cared for Solas, and it just adds that little bit of realness and complexity. Sera, Blackwall, Leliana, and Vivienne all directly tell you how sorry they are (and Cole does, in his own ways as well). And Cole himself meanwhile is this amazing sort of live feed to Solas's emotions and major decisions. Even on the final run to Solas, both Cole and Sera express concern for you and hope that Solas will help (with Cole crying out, "They don't understand! He's not that kind of wolf!")
Although that segment also gave me an unexpected laugh, as, if you choose "I have to save Solas!" you basically get a huge series of "_____ GREATLY DISAPPROVES" notifications from EVERYONE (except, I think, Cole). Like, it's really sweet because they're all going, "Okay, you're dying, yet you're yelping about saving Solas. Whatever, Quizzie. We want to save YOU.")
I've been wondering about Elgar'nan a lot, especially since the sun symbol is always so prevalent in all of Solas's murals. But more on this later -- I'm working on some thoughts/questions separately on some of the Evanuris stuff (and how it ties to Solas's actions in DAI).
Well, I just finished Trespasser. It made me cry..
I hope everyone listened to the credits. LMAO...Cassandra, "I am reading the **** out of this book!"
I cried too. You're not alone! (And gotta love Cassandra... gave me an emergency laugh right when I needed it most!)
....and then stand between him and his magic of doom and say, please vhenan, don't.
Aw, man: this. Exactly.
